NBA Trade Deadline: Sixers Acquire Future First-Round Pick From Denver

save us samThe NBA’s trade deadline is quickly approaching, and Sixers’ general manager Sam Hinkie has already been active as he continues his never-ending quest to acquire future assets.

The Sixers are reportedly close to a deal with the Denver Nuggets that will send center JaVale McGee and a 2016 first-round pick to the Sixers.

McGee, a talented athlete with a 10-cent head, has struggled to so much as stay healthy and get on the floor for the Nuggets since he arrived there several years ago. McGee is owed $12 million next season, so the Nuggets wanted to be rid of his salary. Hinkie, who has created plenty of cap room for the Sixers, had put the team into a position where they can easily absorb a contract like McGee’s for a season, and in exchange for taking the troubled big man off of Denver’s hands, the Nuggets rewarded Hinkie with a 2016 first-round pick that had previously belonged to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

As for McGee, don’t count on seeing him in a Sixer jersey anytime soon. He’s talented, but if I had to compare him to anyone, it’d be former Sixer Sammy Dalembert. McGee is a guy who will tease you with raw ability and has the potential to be great, but has a very low basketball I.Q. and will bring a team much more frustration than satisfaction.

I doubt that McGee ever sees the floor for the Sixers. I think the team will most likely buy him out or waive him over the next couple weeks. The team has a crowded front court already, and even though McGee is a guy with significant untapped potential, there just isn’t much of a future for him here.

It’s a tremendous start to the deadline for the Sixers, and Hinkie may not be done dealing yet.

From USA Today.

As part of the deal, the Sixers acquired a protected 2015 first-round pick from the Suns via the Los Angeles Lakers. The pick is protected 1-5 in 2015, 1-3 in 2016 and 2017 and unprotected in 2018.

MCW for Lakers top 5 protected this year, top 3 protected next year and year after or unprotected 2018

KJ McDaniels for some Doo Doo PG that will help us ensure we dont win any more games this year and a 2nd round pick

We sent rights to sum turkish guy I never heard of away for McGhee and a top 18 protected 1st round pick from OKC (top 15 protected next year)

I think it is the reverse. I recall last year we had two first round draft picks. We used our pick to get Embiid. The other pick we had was acquired in a trade from New Orleans and it was top 5 protected. Because the pick fell out of the top 5 the Sixers were then able to keep it and select Elfrid Payton who was then traded for Saric.

I think Hinkie has to be very careful about the amount of changes he makes. If he makes too many, the young players may not want to play here and veterans may be scared off. There needs to be some stability at some point. KJ McDaniels and MCW. The Sixers are looking for Russel/Mudiay and Okafor.

BigL Embiid is the key to it all, if he is the dream shaking highlight reel we all saw everything falls into place with relative ease. If he isn’t it’s just an accumulation of parts right now.

Saric is interesting if he has an ability to play some 3 or if he’s just a stretch 4. Everything I see says he could be a monster from the elbow down.

Sixers could have as many as four first-round picks and five second-rounders in June’s draft.

Philly is going crazy right now, everyone is talking about this league wide im hearing

Hinkie strikes again

I told you guys last year that MCW was expendable and that he could be traded. I said trade him while he has his highest value coming off of winning rookie of the year

Now I believe their target guy in the draft will be PG Emmanuel Mudiay 6’5 205 beast. Hes an all around player. Pass first type guy, but can score the ball and has amazing court vision. He will be an Allstar, mark my words

Has to work on his shot, but I like his projection in that regard over 24year old MCW…

Mudiay is only 18

I also like Okafor

If the Sixers can some how get them both id be ecstatic, very unrealistic but again its Hinkie, anything is truly possible as we saw today

McDaniels wont be missed. We have other long athletic freaks on the team

We just got another 2nd for a 2nd rounder who may have not resigned this off season

What a great day…

Options are wide open

They could package all the picks n move up to 1st

They could trade for Superstar that we’d never think we could get, Anthony Davis? Russell Westbrook? Lamarcus Aldridge? Kevin Durant?!?!?

Because of the assets we’ve acquired now and for the future. Theyre not acquiring these picks just to pick 18 year olds every year

I see Hinkie looking to make bigger trades in the near future for big time players

If Hinkie can manage to have a good group of players around a superstar or two, we will be just fine

Think San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks, even the Golden State Warriors to a degree

Smart, athletic, long, shooters everywhere you turn, with a good post presence…

Lookout for the Sixers, theyre about to shake up the league, more than they did today

Remember too, we could package all the picks and move up to 1st overall slot and draft okafor (if our pick isnt 1st), or trade all the picks away for a Superstar

Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis etc

Nerlins Noel too can be a key part in trades being facilitated in a smooth manner

You say Hinkie has no plan or direction

I say hes a genius who has taken us out of the cap hell we were in with bad contract after bad contract and mediocrity

He has given us a CHANCE for sustained success

Not like the A.I years which was pretty short-lived and destroyed our cap and overall team in general with bums surrounding A.I, no talent whatsoever, just “blue-collar guys” or “defensive stoppers”.. We need more than that

Like I said, think San Antonio Spurs

That’s the model they’re trying to follow

We’re on our way sooner rather than later…

bugs, that’s why I think many changes are coming to Denver. Peyton might retire. Their entire coaching staff is gone. We have their Secondary coach (That’s why I think Raheem Moore will be signed). Demaryius will get a good contract, but I’d rather pay him, than resigning Maclin at similar $$$$. He’s bigger, faster, & proven longer to be a true #1-#2 WR, Maclin is a 1/2 season wonder, in a contracty year. Prior to this year, he was tissue paper, who was a bust. We’ll see??

You ain’t made one good point, or anything of substance, toward any topic on here, since you’ve posted! All you are good at, is trying to clown paul, gmcliff, 7 countless others, only to make a jerkoff out of yourself! Get fucking lost, Mr. Washington- Camden! You are a know-nothing, worhtless bag of diarrhea!

I’ve had to expose dcar, paul etc for years

Flip floppers, name callers, fraudulent fan behavior lol, you name it!

Dcar has called me every name in the book then wants to fight with his old dumb ass! “Anytime anywhere ”

“45s not old” …. It isn’t?

He’s in LaLa land

Maybe that’s why he name calls, he has the mind of a 15 year old still wanting to be a toys-r-us kid

Just move on from the foolishness and keep it sports

This is our second year of this rebuild and the question is, who’s our number one option that were developing who will be our number one guy in two years? Who’s our number two guy? Our number three guy? Hinkie is doing nothing but kicking the can down the road, this is not how it’s done, you build a core, let them grow together, build your bench n them bring in a major FA, two years and we still don’t have the first phase of the rebuild started.

More Sixers News

I’m hearing that JaVale McGee and Sixers have no plans to discuss a contract buyout.

He will remain with team, for now

Makes more sense to keep. He becomes a 12.5 million dollar expiring trade chip going into the biggest freer agent summer in since the Big 3.

Andrew, McGhee probably never sees the floor as a Sixer. He basically was brought to bring the team closer to the cap floor get a first round pick and have a possible 12.5 million trade kicker.
