Eagles Restructure Connor Barwin’s Contract

ConnorBarwin1The Eagles restructured Pro Bowl outside linebacker Connor Barwin’s contract as a way of rewarding him for leading the NFC in sacks with 14 1/2 and letting the rest of the current Birds roster know that the front office will reward production.  This is a message that Chip Kelly needed to make after the Birds traded or failed to sign three of the team’s most productive players, such as running back LeSean McCoy, quarterback Nick Foles, and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.

Barwin, who had been signed a deal a couple of years ago as a Houston Texans free agent.  The contract he signed two years ago is scheduled to pay him $6.4 million in 2015, $6 million in 2016, $7 million in 2017, and $8.5 million in 2018.  In all likelihood, the Birds may have given him some bonus money and restructured his deal to lower his cap hit in 2015 and open some cap space for the team.

It didn’t make sense for a Pro Bowler like Barwin to be making virtually the same amount of money as recently re-signed outside linebacker Brandon Graham.  Graham has a four-year deal worth about $26 million bucks with $13 of it is guaranteed.

Recently the Birds restructured backup linebacker Bryan Braman’s contract as a way of creating more cap space.  Braman got a contract extension for agreeing to alter his deal.

These moves have former General Manager Howie Roseman’s fingerprints all over them.

This is a draft where the eagles need as many picks as possible.

Just read the Ravens might be interested in Polk now that they got rid of Pierce, they figure if they make a decent offer the Eagles won’t match (which is true) plus they won’t have to give up any picks since it was a low tender, it all makes sense!

no Interest by the Ravens in Chris Polk

They are very happy with have 2nd Year RB Lorenzo Taliaferro as their Big Back (6-0 226lbs)… He’s a load and from Coastal Carolina University in Conway,Sc (Just outside Myrtle Beach for all you Geography buffs)
They also have Justin Forsett and Fitzgerald Toussaint (5-10 205lbs) from Michigan on their Roster..
They may look at Receiver Type/Returnman Type of RB in the Draft
like a Abdullah of Nebraska .. but Polk is not really what they need as far as Depth goes….

I really don’t think the eagles care If they lose polk due to there depth as well as the depth in the draft.

Wow the eagles could free up 29million by cutting or trading Bradford, mathis,Ryans and celek
Ryans= don’t understand why he is on this team if he even comes back will only be a 2 down lb

Celek= is a glorified blocker if anybody is around him he drops the ball

Mathis= an aging vet that still plays good but can be upgraded.

Bradford= until they give him an extension I won’t believe he is here to stay. Plus he isn’t a 13million dollar qb

It might not be money but as a fan I don’t want my team in cap hell like the saints are. And Bradford will either be traded or extended cause he’s not a 13million dollar qb. And I’m sure yhe eagles can find a te that can block that won’t cost 4.5 million and demeco is 31 coming pff his second major injury and it’s sad it looks, like there gonna choose him over Kendricks who clearly the better player.

And don’t forget Coopers $6 million that will be gone, he’s gone after this year, that will put us over $35 plus the $8 that will carry over, that’s $43 million we would have next offseason if things don’t workout this coming year, if you wanna keep going, this might be Peters last year, that would be abother $9 million, that’s $52 million, bottom line, were gonna have plenty of cap space next offseason

Just more of the same “the sky is falling” bullshit. For as long as I’ve been an Eagles fan I don’t think we’ve ever been in “cap hell”

2. Cb X2
3. Og. X2
4. Olb
5. Wr. X2

Let me ask you, if the eagles had another $25 million in cap space who is available that you would pay big money to?
Also, the one thing we know about the eagles is they understand the cap. Last season people bitched and moaned about being under the cap, now bitch and moan for the opposite …. My guess is…that the eagles understand their cap situation a whole lot better than we do.

HAC .. my concerns about $$ ..I said from the desert perspective having seen bill davis here there and everywhere ..With personnel and without .with schemes that made you really question this guy in a pivotal loss to Green Bay ,keying not on Aaron Rodgers ,manning up 4 straight games on ones with Fletcher ..There is a cruel irony in that our corners were picked up by two Super Bowl teams ..that’s an indictment on bill davis ..sure ,we’ll see if they can deliver the goods ..BILL DAVIS ,is in the cross hairs ,Pinnochipio aallocated huge do-re-mi to satiate Bill. He also went all in on the draft by picking smith and IMO bill Davis ruined him last year ..What rookie starts out as an OLB and is moved inside .billy had a lot of fingerprints on two years ago exit in the playoffs , followed by this years folding on Dee like a cheap suit ,down the stretch.Until we see him execute with talent for the first time in his recent past ,I’ll be concerned .upgrades or not ..I’ll also be shocked if he stays less than a tornado in his first draft ..he loves the bright lights,he loves the theater of the absurd..this Chinopochio ,is either the theater of the absurd on broad and patties on or the Chipped in stone statue as he brings Lombardi home ..

Sproles=? Could be might not be

A big thing too about HArdy is how long will the NFL Suspend Him
His Actions occurred when it was only a 2 Game Suspension
now the NFL has a 6 Game Suspension for Domestic Abuse Cases
I imagine they will meet in the middle and settle for 4 Games but an interesting matter is that the NFL is wanting all the LEgal Documents pertatining the Case and the Charlotte DA’s Office are not being very cooperative since the Case was Dropped…
There is lot going on with this particular case and it will be interesting to see how it pans out..

It is his appeal that is being dropped after witness have disappeared after a “civil settlement”

March 20, 2015 12:06 pm

I am not sure how that Works in North Carolina Vinnie
His initital Case was a Closed Case in front of the Judge only last Summer where the Judge found him Guilty…
In NC, when a Defendant is found Guilty (as was Hardy) they have the Option of Appealing their Case and to be Heard and Decided in front of a Jury of their Peers, which is what the Hardy Team decided to do
Then the Case was Postponed from November to Febuary in whcih during this Time, the Main WItness and Woman of this Case has left the Country (Reportedly in the Carribean) and has stated thru her Lawyers that she will not Return to the US or Testify against Greg HArdy basically leaving the DA’s Office without a Case to Proceed or to Convict so they have Dropped the Charges.. Now whether this Decision supercedes the Original Judges Decision last Summer, I am not sure, But from what I read, it does and that the Judges Decision from closed court means nothing now that the DA has Dropped the Case..

His case is closed on appeal. He basically paid off the witness prosecution can’t move forward without the witness.

He got off. Only discipline left he is facing from is from the NFL.

Basically the NFL helped him get off….it was his paid while suspended millions that he used to work a deal. Guarantee she got close to half of his 13mil from last year.

Paul if you are GM and had the choice of WR Jalen Strong, OT Jake Fisher, S Landon Collins ot CB Jalen Collins, who you taking. I would rather have Fisher but L Collins would be my pick because safety is much harder position to fill. The CB and WR seem to be to be good but not great players at the next level. Jeremy Maclin/Sheldon Brown IMO.

In this Draft with the Team needs I would take the Following at # 20 based on your Choices

1) Safety – Landon Collins (Day 1 Starter at Safety)
2) OL – Jake Fisher (Day 1 Starter at Guard, Switch to OT when Peters Retires)
3) WR – Jaelen Srong (Will be a Rotational WR who should see more and more snaps as the Season progresses and basically replaces Riley Cooper)
4) CB – Jalen Collins (I think we make a better Safety at the NFL Level than a CB but it will take a Season or Two before he’s a Starter but has nice upside)

What exactly would be th point of trading Mathis? The guy is still tp five in the league and even coming off injury last year showed no signs of slowg down. That position can play into mid 30s anyway. I would take nothing less than getting back our 2016 second round pick. If they gove him away for a middle round pick that is absurd.

If Mathis was 26 Years Old maybe he could return a 2nd/3rd Rounder but at 32 Years Old and with a Big Contract.. The Eagles would be fortunate to get a 5th/6th Round Pick in Return for a Guard.. They just don’t return much in the world of the NFL

Paulman his contract is that big hell I seen the saints were paying Grubbs & Evans 8 million each I think the Eagles want a 3rd Rd pick for him but other teams a probably offering 4th and 6th Rd picks they almost have to trade Mathis or release Ryans the draft cast will cost you around 6million to sign all of them and with them only having about 8 million they have to make moves.

Just saw the Nick Foles interview where he said he had no idea that the trade was coming. He only knew when Chip Kelly called him and let him know that he was traded…smh!
Nick demonstrated exactly why he just wont make it as a QB in this league! No fire, no gumption…no fight…
“VRENTAS: What reason did Chip give you for the trade?

FOLES: Just that it was just best for both parties. It was a decision they had to make, and he thought it was best for the organization, and he was thankful for my time there. It was a tough thing. You play for a head coach for two years, and you have a relationship. But I understand this business, and you don’t hold any grudges. I’m thankful for Chip and the time he allowed me to be there….”

Aww shucks…”I’m just thankful for Chip”…

Same bullshit…no attitude that says: “Hey, I’m going to prove that Chip made a mistake in trading me…”

To me, Bradford is too much like Foles and Sanchez to be viewed as our QB of the future.

Bradford must be viewed as a stop gap. His injury history makes him just that. The Eagles can not think of him as a long term solution at qb. Any extension must have injury clauses that would allow them to get out of any new contract.

This is a draft that wouldn’t shock me if they traded out of the 1st all together with all the holes they have now .

Eagles send 20th pick to

Oakland for 35th 68th and there 6th Rd pick

Eagles then send Kendricks and Boykin

To the titans for 2nd and 4th Rd picks

The eagles would then have
Three 2nd Rd picks
Two 3rd Rd picks
Two 4th Rd picks
Two 5th Rd picks
Two 6th Rd picks

This is the only way to fix this team.

Ehl I know you can’t rebuild a team in one yr but is there really big difference in talent from pick 20 to pick 35 and even if they trade back and say 11 picks all those won’t be hitting there strive until those 3yr rentals are up.
In my opinion I see the eagles
Starting secondary next yr
Cb.watkins
Safety. Caroll
Safety. Jenkins
Cb. Maxwell
Slot .Thurmond
With Boykin traded
I don’t want them to reach and draft Collins to play safety cause, they feel they need one.

To that I am very well aware…and they still did not draft one of them. That’s why I am saying never mind all of that, just draft the BPA. I am not prepared to trust the Eagles drafting yet…no need to get cute or try to outsmart themselves…just take the BPA.

Paulman out of the that whole list of players I would’ve only took Roby but he doesn’t fit there size thing they want in cb’s and I can’t say Benjamin cause Matthews didn’t have a bad season … and ehl Marcus smith should and only be judged off of this season not last he has to put more muscle on then I can judge him not every rookie pass rusher has even a good rookie yr hell the #1 overall pick did nothing when he played.

The greatest Eagle has just passed. But I want to give mourning fans a glimmer of hope. This franchise is clearly cursed. From losing the SB to a wild card team, to the Fog Bowl, to losing Randall when we had one of the greatest defenses of all time in ’91, to injuries to key players in the playoffs throughout Reid’s tenure (Vincent in ’01, McNabb in ’02, Westbrook in ’03, TO and Chad Lewis in ’04). CURSED! Cursed by Lombardi because he lost his only post season game and never wanted us to have his trophy. And on the last play of that game, Concrete Charlie sat on Jim Taylor so the Packers couldn’t run another play from our nine yard line. Every curse has something that breaks the spell. Maybe the greatest Eagle ever who played a big part in the loss had to pass for Vince to lift the curse. Maybe we can get that trophy now

That’s damn cold j bird, beyond being the greatest eagle to ever lace them up he was a great man, father, grandfather his family is hurting. I heard a reference today at the upper bucks y about how his grandson is really taking this tough. No one there was talking about the eagles

You probably meant to make light of this, but to his family eagles football and these nut jobs like koolbreeze are not even a blip on the radar

Concrete Charlie must be revered as a throwback ,a mans man.His humility and character will forever forge the symbolism of this franchise .Chuck was a hall of famer ,as a father a husband a grandfather ,and last and leastly an Eagle. His emergence into watching from above ,will forever be etched in every person watching his beloved Eagles and there fans.In this social media world we all exist in ,his communication came from the heart..

Are you kidding me! Listen I dont agree with Izzell often but he hit the nail on the head…the guy made racist comments and he was really bitter…no obligation at all to ‘acknowledge’ him…especially not GCobb!
GCobb probably also heard what ‘Concrete Charley’ reportedly said about the Greatest Eagle to ever play:

“A year and a half after that, in August 2006, he showed up at Eagles training camp one day and said of Reggie White, who had died the previous year: “There was something about him I just despised.”

Yeah…GCobb doesn’t have to acknowledge anything about a guy like that..period!

How low can some of your guys go….smh?

The problem was the worst owner in Eagles history…Norman Braman! This is why Reggie left…Braman didn’t try to resign Reggie.
But your going to compare Reggie to a guy with racist statements, who openly rooted against the Eagles and bitterly against them
When we leave it on the field…Reggie was a far superior player than Concrete Charley…and off of the field…he was a much better person…by far!!

Concrete Charley should be remembered as a great player for the Eagles

Reggie White is the greatest Eagle to put on a uniform and he should be remembered as such…hands down, no question about it!!

To me when you win a game it’s because your team played better, when you choose one contract over another for money…you chose more money. Blacks are gifted at worship and celebration. If you go to a black church, you see people jumping up and down because they really get into it.

Whites are good at organization. You guys do a good job of building businesses and things of that nature, and you know how to tap into money.

Hispanics are gifted in family structure, and you can see a Hispanic person, and they can put 20, 30 people in one home.

The Japanese and other Asians are inventive, and can turn a television into a watch

Indians are gifted in spirituality.

Can turn a television into a watch. 20, 30 in a home.

Ya…….straight from God. Whatever.
