Former Coach On Sam “Wi-Fi” Bradford: “He’s got Wi-Fi in his brain to process real quick”

Sam BradfordJust prior to the 2013 NFL season, Nic Wagoner of ESPN wrote an article about Sam Bradford.  In the article he talked about an interview he did with Kevin Wilson, former Oklahoma offensive coordinator and current Indiana University head coach.  Wilson compared Bradford’s mind to “Wi-Fi”, meaning his mind was quicker than others because he could download and process information before everyone else.

The former Oklahoma coach was the guy who was calling the plays for the Sooners when Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford was starting for them.  Bradford took his game to another level and won the Heisman Trophy, after Wilson changed the Oklahoma offense to a no huddle spread attack to take advantage of his quarterback’s skills.

Chip Kelly talked to Wilson before sending Nick Foles to the Rams for Bradford.  Despite the ACL tears and shoulder injury, Kelly was obviously enamored by Bradford’s arm and brain.

Kelly and company weren’t happy with the speed, or lack of speed, which Foles ran the offense.  Obviously he thought the Foles of a year ago was the real Nick Foles and the Foles of 2013 was a mirage. The Eagles felt better about the speed and way Mark Sanchez ran the offense as compared to Foles.  They wanted somebody who could run it even better than Sanchez.  They think they’ve got that guy.

Bradford ran the Sooners offense with such speed and efficiency that Wilson made the following statement.

“[Sam’s] got Wi-Fi in his brain to process real quick.”  So from now on, it’s Sam “Wi-Fi” Bradford.  He’s the ultimate downloader at the quarterback position.

He has shown that he can run the spread attack break neck speed and do it why still taking care of the football.  Wilson gives Bradford much of the credit for the success the Sooner no-huddle offense had in college.  He threw for 50 touchdowns with only 8 interceptions.

Obviously, Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur had a lot of good things to say about Bradford because he coached him.  He knows Bradford much better than Kelly.  Shurmur had to give Bradford a big endorsement for Kelly to bring Bradford here.

“Our offense changed dramatically,” Bradford said. “We went no-huddle, fast break. We had 11 personnel, 10 personnel, smaller, faster and spread it out to start throwing the ball a lot more. I remember that first spring, I really wasn’t sure I was going to like it because I had never run the no-huddle before. It seemed like everything happened too fast but the more we did it, the more comfortable I got with it. It turned out; it was probably the best move we made because we were really good at it.”

“He was the point guard who was distributing,” Wilson said. “He was very instinctive, very good mind.”

“I think it’s similar to what I did in college at Oklahoma, so I’m extremely excited to be here and ready to get rolling,” said Bradford. “I think making quick decisions, getting the ball out of your hand. A lot of the run-pass options are similar to what we did in college — obviously not me running the football, but the running backs with some of the quick game — and then pushing the ball down the field in play-action. There is just a lot of carryover into what we did at Oklahoma, and I think my skill set fits that perfectly.”

Can he avoid another ACL tear?  If does stay healthy, will he be able to take the Eagles offense to another level.

Now we’ll see if “Mr. Wi-Fi” can stay healthy and do the job here in Philly with the Birds.

Excellent observation and a very good point…again…Foles main problem wasn’t just being physically slow…but the inability to read the defense and make good reads quickly. Holding the ball, indecisive…Kelly is taking a chance that Bradford can stay healthy and make the offense a lot more efficient.

We wlll see if it works out!

i knew when Kelly resigned Sanchez where this was going, it was obvious he liked the tempo of the offense with bum ass Sanchez which is amazing because he’s a turnover waiting to happen. Now this Bradford stuff has me baffled because this dude just breaks down if you stare at him hard. I guess LLCB knows more about torn acl’s then everyone else.

To me the moves that Kelly has made indicates that he doesn’t have a strong confidence in the availability and the ability of the QB’s in this draft. He may like Mariota, but believes that it is highly unlikely that he will be able to get him…and as to the other Qb’s…he may think that none of the others are better than turnover prone Sanchez.
So BigL…I think he is taking the shot with who he perceives as the best talent easily available…Its clear that we couldn’t win with Foles, he is like having a point guard that cant effectively run the fast break…Sanchez is only a little better…but not much…he’s taking the gamble…and really…when you dont have an established No#1 QB…you have to gamble..

Kool .His qb acumen hasn’t exactly been stellar ,to be kind.Anyone that renews Mark sanchez and trades a guy who had a very small sample size ,at the free agent period ,as ,opposed to setting th enable on draft day.You yourself said “chip didn’t see this as a stellar qb class” well Nick foles may have been lofted in comparison ,with Avery friendly price.i don’t want to hear that sam the gimp I am ,was that important to rehab at $12.9 million. In my guesstimate on compulsion , and this pinnochipio, are the only constants of late.He rushed to anoint bill Davis ,before evaluating th enew talent that was to be revealed ,with predictable firings and in labeau a resignation..What Ws the burning rush that we couldn’t have waited ..After all the owner spoke of his Gripes about the season and number one was big plays allowed ..Let’s hope merit matters ..It’s sone of the worst decisions to reward Bill Davis with guarantees ,after lackluster performance .I don’t see how that’s the Gold Standard? I’ll reserve judgement Kool ,and so should you ..we may have rushed into a perceived burning building to get sam Bradford and his $12.9 million..Couldn’t one make the argument it would have yielded more ,had he showed patience until the draft? If he senses this isn’t a high grade qb class ,then why in comparison move foles and his1.5 million ..What if a great safety or corner or lineman emerged on draft day and all it took is $$$ we spent 11 million on rushing to grab Sam,when patience might have paid dividends .Sam wasn’t going anywhere until draft day ,the Rams wanted Nick foles ,they didn’t want 12 and thee10 ,or more likely 10 and 19.. So ,Kool ,who as I recall wanted to cut the bum ass foles ,and then anointed Mark sanchez, butt boy ,who like bill Davis ruined my last season ..yeah let’s reward that ..you need take off th m rose colored glasses ,the Nick hate has effected your game knowledge. This move ,rushing to trade Nick foles ,may prove nothing more ,than a decoy to get the duck A la green.. Then and only then ,would I contend ,he didn’t rush ,he calculated ..I still think his worse nightmares happen when he sees Mark ,a heartbeat away ?

desert, your missing the boat! First of all, who cares about the money? For years we have been the cap management specialists and not winning anything…the question is have the Eagles increased their talent level.
The answer to that is unquestionably-YES
Be patient for what? The hope that perhaps, maybe, some player might become available…and while your waiting around the player you want is snatched up by another team…Chip Kelly made the move for Bradford, did his research, talked to Dr Andrews-Bradford’s doctor…and decided to bust the move.
St Louis was probably the only team that wanted Nick Foles so if we delayed and waited…we may have lost out on the opportunity to dump him…and then would have probably ended up cutting Nick…
The pre-draft trade winds are just that…Kelly has moved quickly and decisively to model the team in the way he wants…his moves have been prudent and makes sense….the best of which was getting rid of Foles and getting something for him from the one team that wanted him….instead of simply cutting him.
Good move by the Eagles

A lot of pre draft trade winds blowing as we sit..the Phillip rivers legs ,have legs a perfect match for my argument ,what was the rush ? Rivers wants out andphilly is in play ,but you just forked over 12.9 …you also are paying Mark sanchez 14 tds in 8 games (good) 11 interceptions ( killer ) $5.5 2 yr.guarantee so between marks $2.75 and sam $ 12.9 …that’s almost Phillip rivers on two strong knees ..so look Kool …don’t give out plaudits ,for the tallest midget in the circus..patience is a virtue ,they say ..

Conjecture ..Kool…plain and simple ..on your behalf..I’m not disagreeable with his moves ,I’m just not agreeing his timing was exquisite,on many of them ..you can assume he acted swift and decisively ,I can say he needs be more calculating ..we won’t know who’s right ,it’s always his way ..

desert, i can only see that if you show us someone who is available NOW that we dont have the money to sign?

Phillip Rivers? Are you kidding me…who knows if San Diego is going to trade him or let him go? The plan should have been to wait and hopefully put ourselves in position to sign Rivers, just in case, maybe SD wants to get rid of him or maybe he wants to leave???

C’mon…what sense does that make…

The Eagles dangled Foles and no one wanted him except St Louis and they have a QB with more potential and talent for us to take a chance with…so we gave them a second rounder (that’s protected) to take Foles off of our hands and to take a shot with a more talented QB!

Good move!

Kelly’s timing was exquisite….He made the move and got Matthews and soon as Murray came available he stepped up decisively and snatched him away from Dallas…

There is nothing “protected” about the second round pick.

It’s gone. Traded. Finished.

Why do you keep trying to perpetuate your pathetic little fantasy that this pick is somehow “protected”??

I think you know giving away the second pick was a stupid move on Chip’s part, but you can’t admit it as it then ruins your “I hate Foles” persona, so you keep saying the same lie over and over to try to convince yourself that this trade actually makes sense, or that the Eagles got value. If you say it enough times, then it must be true right?

rivers doesnt want out, actually the opposite. its likely if he gets moved he will just retire its also likely if the chargers move from san diego to LA he will retire. basically right from rivers mouth. he dont want out

Rivers is not a Fit for Kelly’s Schemes regardless..
Rivers is a down the Field Pocket Passer when at his best in a Vertical Passing Scheme.
Kelly’s Scheme is a Dink, Dunk Horizontal Passing attack

Evan Mathis to be released if he cant be traded is what is being reported. Eagle fans better start focusing on who the best olineman that will be available at # 20. I think a lot of fans are in for a rude awakening come draft day when the Eagles go oline heavy in the early rounds and pass on WR, S and CB. Chip is building his oline to go with his RB corp. The Eagles will take the best Olineman @ # 20.

There’s little doubt that OL will be targeted
Early and often in this Draft..
I see 2 OL taken in the first 3-4 Rounds
At #20 : Jake Fisher, Cameron Erving,
DJ Humpries or Brandon Scherff
Depending who is on Board

All you have to do is look at Dallas last year to see the value of a great oline.

I like the two O linemen, you can keep Eric Rowe, I’d rather keep GJ Kinne than take Cody Fajardo, give me Phillip Dorsett over Tre McBride…not productive enough against the level of competition he played against for me. I’d prefer Darren Waller over Vince Mayle who is to close to Jordan Mathews skill and talent wise. I have never seen Kyle Emmanuel play..can’t comment on him. Clinton Geathers may be a good developmental prospect, not sure about his cover ability.

McBride stronger and a better Route Runner than Dorsett who has great straight line speed but not much else..You can’t knock McBride’s Stats
for being at W&M With sub-par QB’s and Coaching Schemes…
When looking at Dorsett I don’t see very eye-popping Stats while he played a much bigger Program at U of Miami and had a Torn MCL his Sophomore Year…

McBride has 182 Career Receptions for 2500 Yards and 19 TD’s
Dorsett has 121 Career Receprtion for 2132 Yds and 17 TD’s

Dorsett only measured 5-9″ and a very thin 185 lbs and is strictly a Deep Threat and is not an effective Blocker, or Route Runner on intermediate routes to keep the Chains Moving and lacks strength

McBride is a solid 210lbs and very strong and smooth in and out of his Routes with superior Hands to Dorsett and is not a deep threat or super fast, but he is strong, physical and would make a nice #2/#3 WR in Kelly’s Offense….

I can knock mcBrides stats, oh now it’s on the QB and coaching scheme, no excuses..lol. I want a fast speedy guy, every receiver can’t be a clone on the team. look at how the eagles shut the bears receivers down in that night game. There needs to be some diversity in the receiving corps. Kelly was interested in Brandon Cooks, short, rocked up, Dorsett can add muscle, you know these guys bodies are not finished products. And i would take Chris Conley over Tre McBride, I think he has better upside. McBride is a solid # 2 in two years. Tha’ts as far as he goes.

EHL even with the many holes on the roster I can see them drafting as many as 4 olineman in this draft maybe a wideout a safety and a rush linebacker. If Mariota isn’t drafted they won’t touch the QB position in this draft.

Big, I was listening to Howard Eskin on WIP this morning. He stated that Chip Kelly was responsible for drafting Marcus Smith II and that Chip threw Howie under the bus. I will not be surprised at what Chip does during the draft. I am happy he will be solely responsible for the selections.
I agree, multiple O linemen will be selected along with a receiver, inside linebacker and and a safety. Crazy thing is, will they hit on all of their picks? History says…no!

Eagles, I guarantee the shit hits the fan this year, especially after the draft! The messiah genius, will be back in the NCAA within a year, no later than 2! Dude has no clue, no plan, & is grasping at straws. Biggie & I, I think were the only 2 brave & smart enough, to properly criticize, & call his bluff, for being a FRAUD! We’ll see? I hope he has a plan, to fill SS, CB, WR, 2 OG’s, QB, depth, because right now, it looks like a failed off-season, full of major question marks, mismanaged $$$, & unneeded injury risks.

I think McBride can basically replace Maclin’s Role in the Eagles Offense. Maclin produced nice Stats without running Deep Routes
I do agree that a Taller, Outside threat with Speed would be better,
but those Top Receivers will be gone in the first 2 Rounds…
Chris Conley & Dezmin Lewis would be nice Selections as well in the 3rd/4th Rd’s ..

McBride is not going to take over Maclin’s role, he’s not as skilled. Let me put it like this, he will not be as productive. You can blame McBride’s stats on the QB and coaches scheme all you want..I’m not buying him til the 4th, as I said, he’s a #2 wideout…a complimentary receiver.

Which is what Maclin is… McBride can run all the same Routes
and no he won’t duplicate what a 4 Year Veteran Maclin’s Stats in his 1st Year, but he will take most of the routes that Maclin did in this Offense..
Kelly’s System is very QB, WR & RB friendly and any Skill Player with Talent at QB,WR or Rb should put up good Stats..

I won’t believe it til I see it. The Eagles met with Phillip Dorsett at the senior bowl and I believe at the combine too, I have not read anything about them meeting with McBride…not much interest perhaps. Seriously, I know the meetings do not mean anything is automatic..maybe just due dilligence, but, I think the Eagles have legitimate interest in what Dorsett brings as a receiver and ST’s returner.

I don’t believe Dorsett will ever make an Impact for an NFL Team
He’s way too frail and simply not strong enough and will get pushed around at the line of scrimmage to not even be able to utilize his Speed,,, He’s 185lbs Soaking wet… He does have a chance to make an impact as a Returner, but he won’t last long at that kind of weight and size.. He reminds me of another one of those fast “Track Stars” trying to make it in Football but is not a natural Receiver

We usually agree on a lot of Prospects EHL
but obviously we don’t on these 2 Players..
Let’s make a Gentleman’s Bet on these 2 Players
Lets give them 2-3 Years in the NFL and see who makes more of an impact for their respective Teams that Draft them
Tre McBride or Phillip Dorsett
We can bet like the old “Monopoly Board Game”
1st Year is $25 to Charity of Choice)
2nd Year (Houses placed on Players) $50 Charity Donation
3rd Year (Condo’s Placed on Players) A NFL Jersey with the Better Player’s Name and Number on it
