Walter Thurmond Getting Some Work At Safety

WalterThurmond2I have learned through a source close to the Eagles, that newly acquired defensive back Walter Thurmond has been lining up at safety.  That’s nothing jaw dropping since it’s so early, but a lot of Eagles observers have projected Thurmond as the starting cornerback opposite Byron Maxwell is getting some work at the safety position.

The former New York Giant and Seattle Seahawk may still wind up being the starter at cornerback opposite Maxwell when the season starts, but he’s getting work at the safety position, right now.  It also opens up the door for second round pick Eric Rowe to get his shot at the starting cornerback spot opposite Maxwell.  Rowe who plays both corner and safety, will start out at the cornerback spot in the team’s workouts.

The Eagles have emphasized that they want their defensive backs to be versatile.  They want them to be able to play both the cornerback and safety positions, so it adds to the depth of the secondary.  They were arguably the worst secondary in the National Football League a year ago.

Thurmond is listed at 5’11” 190 pounds big enough to do the job at safety, but he’s lacking experience at the position.

I hope there isn’t a player change revolving door at safety this year.
Maxwell and Jenkins are definite starters. Other 2 to 3 spots are up for grabs. Best 4 or 5 DB on the field.

After maxwell and Jenkins, the rest of the cbs and safeties could all be labeled as defensive backs. How chip views what a safety and corner back provides for his defense is really all about scheme versatility.

With this being a passing league, chip has loaded up on guys with experience at cb and s, he will continue to move guys around until he is satisfied.

It could very well be decided after the last preseason game who starts opposite of maxwell and jenkins.

I’d personally like it to be rowe at cb and Watkins at safety.

Anyone see the depth with the o line that chip feels content with? It’s difficult to picture mathis in the lineup against Falcons, I really hope he is but if barbre and either tobin or gardner are starting at guard, it leaves the bare minimum if anyone goes down with an injury.

For what is anticipated as a run first offense, the depth at the position really is hard to feel comfortable with.

Jeff, They should have taken advantage of drafting La’al Collins in the third round – Big mistake; overly cautious, and then lose him to a division rival – and if they really liked Jordan Hicks, make a trade of some sort to put themselves in a position to draft him.

I still say he would have been available in the 4th, or possibly 5th with his injury history…

The hicks pk really killed my draft mood. I was in great spirits after first 2 rounds… not going o line rd 3 was upsetting, in Rd 4 I would have taken the kid from asu that the dolphins drafted. Collins I really liked..i felt the situation would work itself out.

I hate Dallas and they end up with 3 first rd pks in terms of player talent

Wow, the 2016 draft class of pass rushers is jinxed. Ray, Gregory, now Fowler.

They showed footage and his left leg appeared to be tripped up by a Jags TE
Off the snap as he was rushing and getting blocked by OT and he went right down… Hate to see and hear about these ..

This Brady shit is brutal. Did he technically cheat? Yeah but you best believe so does 31 other organizations in some way shape or form. The only difference is that there not the New England patriots who have won on a consistent basis for over a decade. The media spins this shit outa control and anyone who disagrees is just a patriot hater. Do I like New England ? Hell no!! But to sit here and say there only good because they “cheat” is hilariously sad. At the end of the day you have to line up and beat the man across from u. Nobody has done that as good and bellichick and Brady which is why there gonna b looked at as cheaters because tere the ones who win all the time.. And are probably the most hated team in America because of that fact. 17-7 with deflated balls and 27-0? With real balls

Damn shame what happened to Fowler jr. If I am the Eagles (Chip), I am trying to offer Vinny Curry for a second round pick in 2016.

Maybe an opportunity to move Kendricks Eagle, and strengthen their depth at LB in Jacksonville….

Cliff, either of them, if not both. They need to recoup that 2nd round pick. We may have 3rd round picks. I don’t see Bradford lasting to long behind this o line.
Was watching some Jared Goff footage. He reminds me of Aaron Rodgers. I liked Mariota, but Goff has a better pocket presence and goes through his progressions more naturally.
I watched some Jacoby Brissett footage too. He has some Randall in him.

Just FYI Cigar, I live in a Single Family Home, and haven’t lived with my parents since I was 15. I was a Single parent for 13 years before i got married.

My oldest son is Jawan Carter, former St Joe’s recruit/Univ. of Del Graduate.

I have two 21 year old daughters, one is a model in Miami, and the other is studying to be a Doctor,at Michigan State,

and I have a 5 r old Autistic Son , who has won a gold medal in the Special Olympic for Basketball.

I am a graduate from University of Illinois, in Sports Management, and on the basketball team. Brother I am very fulfilled in life. I am disabled now, and love talking Sports.

You are on here as much as we are! Why, I can only assume you like Sports as well.

Why are you attacking us as if you know so much more than we do?

Well, I would honestly love to hear some of your opinions on the Eagles Coaching search…The prospects you would bring in to fix this team….and some logic that doesn’t include immature, undignifying remarks about our opinions, that have proven to be of more worth than yours…….Lets hear some of Cigars brilliant suggestions…….

Says you……… I want to hear your opinion when my draftees become superstars, and your making excuses for why Howies draftees are busts…..When that happens, it will be obvious you are just in denial……….

Let me let you in on something Junior. I am more qualified than you understand….like a :

Bachelors of Science in Recreational/ Sports Management

If you think I am concerned about your opinion, you obviously don’t know GMCliff. I’m not your ordinary poster on GCobb.com, I actually know what I am talking about, and doing.

Some impressive interviews from a few of the new guys. Agholor and Hicks present as very polished confident speakers. Rowe and Shepard also very confident young men. Signs pointing to good things.
