Eagles Must Stop Cam Newton & Carolina’s Running Game

Despite the fact that Carolina is undefeated, this is a game the Eagles can win because they match up well against the Panthers.  Carolina believes in running the football and they average more runs per game (over 30) than any other team in the NFL.  They are the only team in the league that runs the ball more than they throw it.  Regardless of whether they’re having success or not, the Panthers are going to run the football.

I’m confident that the front trio of Fletcher Cox, Bennie Logan and Cedrick Thornton with linebackers Jordan Hicks, DeMeco Ryans or Mychal Kendricks, Connor Barwin and Brandon Graham backing them up, can stand strong against the Panthers running game.

Carolina is led on the ground by running back Jonathan Stewart with 79 attempts for 298 yards for two touchdowns and only 3.8 yards a pop.  Quarterback Cam Newton has carried the ball 50 times for 225 yards for three touchdowns and a 4.5 yard per carry average.  The Panthers have a physical offensive line that will feature power runs up the middle and off the corner.

They will stay with their running game even if it’s not getting first downs.  They have no problem punting the football and relying on their defense to keep them in the game.

They’re going to need to keep an eye on 6’5″ 250 pound Newton because he can pull the ball down at anytime and carry two defenders into three yards for a first down or two years into the end zone.  He’s the Panthers weapon that can explode at any time and he’s getting wiser about picking his opportunities to take over the game.

Newton has improved his skills in executing the passing offense from the pocket.  He takes what is there and doesn’t force things in order to stay away from turnovers.  The Panthers have a conservative mindset, which leans on their defense and the offense emphasizes taking care of the football.

“The challenge is they are going to try to pound you,” Kelly said, “and they have got a back in Jonathan (Stewart) who is a big, physical, downhill running back. And then you have a quarterback – and it’s different than other zone-read-type teams you face where it’s a quick, agile quarterback that’s going to break outside — in Cam who can pound you, too. He’s got to be the biggest quarterback in the league from that standpoint in terms of rushing — him and (Ben) Roethlisberger. But they don’t run Ben. They run Cam.

“So I think they are just going to try to wear you down and pound you a little bit. I think their offensive line is built that way. Their running game is built that way, so it’s, can we stand in there and go to toe-to-toe with them? (That) is going to be the challenge for us.”

Tight end Greg Olsen is Carolina’s number one pass catching target with 24 catches for 374 and three touchdowns in five games.  A strong running game and an elusive tight end work well together.  When the linebackers and the safeties are thinking stopping the run, the tight end sneaks out and gets open.   This is especially effective against zones, but the Eagles don’t play a lot of zone, so I think they’ll be able to stay glued on Olsen.

The other threat in the Carolina offense is the speedy Ted Ginn Jr., who is as fast as any receiver in the league.  The Birds secondary needs to always know where he’s lining up.

I think this game is going to be decided by turnovers. Whichever team turns the ball over most will likely lose this football game.  I’m confident the Eagles defense will force some turnovers, but will the offense be able to capitalize on them.

I think so as long as Sam Bradford plays like he’s capable of playing.

It will be a real cat & mouse game versus Eagles OC David Shula & Eagles DC Billy Davis
The key is not allowing Cam Newton to go off with a big game is to set the edges and keep him in the pocket on Passing Plays.. Make him beat you with his arm..
On early and rushing downs, the OLB’s must be disciplined and stay outside and keep containment and force Newton back inside if he’s going to run the ball..

The Panthers Offense has only 5 Turnovers this Season so they are very strong at protecting the Ball.. If your not careful when tackling Stewart,Newton or Tolbert and worrying about causing a fumble only, they will carry you for another 4-6-8 Yards..

If Eagles keep the Panthers to 125 Yards or less in Total Rushing Yards
then they probably Win
If Panthers keep the Eagles to less than 240 Yards in Total Passing Yards,
Then thy probably Win

20-9 Carolina over Jags
24-17 Carolina over Houston
27-22 Carolina over Saints
37-23 Carolina over Buccaneers
27-23 Carolina over Seattle

Carolina has won (and barely in some) in the games they were suppose to win. Kudos to them and its a great job, but every team they have beaten has had 1 win on there win/loss column. Even Seattle should have had 1 win on there schedule due to the controversial call in the Detroit game.

Blake Bortles
Ryan Mallet?
Luke McCown
Winston
Russell Wilson

The best QB they have faced, is an overrated Wilson. People want to act shocked that the Panthers beat the Seahawks. When the fact of the matter is, any team who loses to NE in the SUperbowl, ends up having the worst Superbowl hangover ever. Marshawn Lynch at 30 years old is starting to show his age some when it comes to durability due to his play style. How much longer will he be Beast Mode? A dismantled offensive line, which makes Philly’s look like the best Oline in football has Russell on pace to be sacked 70 times this season. Getting rid of Unger for Jimmy G was the dumbest shit ever. A probowl center for Beast Mode to rush behind only made his job better. The Kam Chancellor holdout hasnt helped there case either on defense. Communication and chemistry has been off between the 3. Don’t even get me started on the softest corner in the NFL.. Cary Williams.

Bradford has had 2 games in a row where bone headed throws have plagued him. Luckily we still have won the last 2 games, allowing Bradford to learn from his mistakes and settle down. I say this is the game where the running game is decent, but Sam Bradford manages to gamemananger the game well tossing 2 tds and 0 turnovers. The defense shuts down the opposition’s running game yet……… again and forces Cam Newton to throw 1-2 ints along with a fumble. Eagles win the turnover battle winning 28-17 and end up making it to 4-3 going into the bye

Eagles are trash complete and utter garbage your just a homer trying to make this pile of shit for a team look better than they really are by talking them up. I would love to hear how you think the Eagles would fare against the Seahawks up in Seattle. You would probably give a one sided fairy tale about how they would magically go into Seattle, and beat the hawks in a blowout because Wilson is so overrated, and the Eagles are just so much better.

Wilson is far from overrated. Check those stats buddy. Wilson has consistently played with a bad oline…and this year’s line is horrendous.

And you seriously forget who the Eagles QB is…come on man. The defenses are going to win (or lose) this game.

Lol. Wilson is overrated. That team does not go as he does. That team ride and dies on playing ELITE, defense and running the football. You could put alot of quarterbacks in Seattle and they would still have there superbowl, and maybe even a win in last years as well.

And yeah it would be a COMPLETE SHOCK if Philly just some how rolled up into Seatte in the post season and beat them? Lmao. I dont think so. Especially this years Seattle team. Ive seen crazier shit happen in this league. Dont forget our defense bullied there asses last year at home shutting both Wilson and Lynch down. our Qb just so happened to be Mark Sanchize with Nick Foles going down. Lesean Mccoys fumble on the first hand off of the half killed us that game.. Even Malcolm Jenkind dropping probably the most for sure pick 6 ive seen in a while for philly. That pick would have made it 24-21 with 8 min left. Who knows what happens?

I would love for Philly to face Seattle in the playoffs. You best believe the game would express itself in a different manner than last season. I believe our running game would be more effective against a defense like Seattle with running backs like Demarco Murray and Ryan Matthews compared to a Lesean McCoy. With an improved defense, and Fletcher Cox and Bennie Login on there way to superstar status they would beat Russel Wilson and Marshawn Lynch ass. Especially with how that Oline is now compared to last years superbowl team.

Sixers — former Sixer Henry Sims was release from Phoenix preseason squad and is jobless – Philly should pick him back up. He is definitely better player than Furkan, Holmes and Woods. NBA Sixers opens Wednesday.

I stirred the kettle ,when I intimated that Carolina had an identity issue.ive watched from afar , (not glued to my set as Pman,) and I believe they lack personality ..I’m going with the “bully” analogy here.Smack a bully in the mouth ,and lets see how. they react. My belief is that if the Eagles can force the tempo and weaken Caroline’s defensive prowess ,allowing a one pronged attack will prove troublesome for Cam..I understand each team must play the schedule that is laid out I front of them ,however ,if you are the “bully” it sure helps to take the lunch $$ from the kid with glasses on and ten pencils in his pocket..The defensive presence of playing with. Their hair on fire ,needs be present and the collapse of the pocket ,needs be prevalent ..On defense. Both teams will look to establish an identity ,whoever gets to see themselves in the mirror ,wins..if Sam I am sees goblins ,and drops his trick or treat candy..were in fora long bye week ..bye bye ,being the operative word.

You couldn’t be as far off wrong DE
The Panthers have a clear Identity and its “smash mouth”, basic Football
It’s the Eagles who don’t have an Identity, they want to be a power rushing team but don’t have the horses up front to be so…

It’s the game to exhibit that in my estimation..the bully will be punched in his mouth and all of Boone will bear witness ..the cam who spun out of control (literally) will bear the brunt of this no loss fraud of a team ,getting there just dues..

I guess you rely on highlights or the talking heads instead of trusting your eyes..
Panthers have Physical, tough RB’s J Stewart, Mike Tolbert who goes about 250lbs and 2nd TE E Dickson ( Of Oregon) is another under the radar Receiver/Blocker

On Defense, watch Panthers DT’s Kawann Short & Star Latuleile versus Kelce/Guards with Luke Kuechley to fill in the gaps .. Kuechly is the best ILB sideline to sideline versus the run in the NFL ..

Panthers OLB Thomas Davis takes Ertz out of the Game
Josh Norman, Charles Tillman & Benweirke take the Eagles average WR Corp out of the game..
Who does Bradford throw to? Sproles would be a great option..
Celek versus their Safeties also is a good Eagles Matchup

Eagles Offense has coughed up the Ball 14 Times this Season
Panthers Offense has only 5 Turnovers this Season

If Bradford throws 2 Int’s or more, the Eagles can’t Win…

Aside things to keep it real…your special teams is just average and sproles inflicted pain last game..you have one weapon vertically ,and hicks will neutralize him in space ..the Eagles will swarm cam ,stunting up front ..the Sam I can element is a concern ,as the last ti he played the panthers ,he injured his ACL.cam was embarrassed sacked 9 X..one will repeat history..one will overcome it..

Ted Ginn is a dangerous Returnman, especially at home and to be honest,
The Eagles Coverage Teams are not as good as they were last year..
Panthers have improved their Coverage Teams

Game basically comes down to what Team can protect their QB better and what QB can make a few plays with their legs which is a gauge advantage to Panthers for Bradford cannot move..
Do note that there is only 1 Starting OL from last years matchup so last years game means nothing… Panthers are 10-1 in their last 11 Games…
Cam Newtonis playing his best ball as a Pro…
Will the Eaglesharass and sack Cam Newton, absolutely,
But can CamNewton stay strong to make a Couple of Big Plays, yes he can and that’s the difference in the game as Bradford cannot create any plays on his own and cannot remain consistent enough without a few mistakes and poor passes
Panthers 24- Eagles 16
