Rookie CB Jalen Mills Has Been Shining

mills1Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and his defense took over yesterday.  They were swarming the Birds offense during the seven-on-seven and team segments of the workout.

I like the speed I see on the field in nickel with middle linebacker Jordan Hicks and outside linebacker Mychal Kendricks in there at the linebacker spots.  They were breaking up passes and dominating yesterday.  You need the speed of Hicks and Kendrick against today’s passing games.

I was impressed with rookie cornerback Jalen Mills yesterday at the Birds OTA workout.  He can play up in press technique or off in zone or man to man.  Mills told me he would prefer to play the cornerback position, where he is matched up against a talented wide receiver.

He’s got good speed to run with receivers, but he’s also strong against them and doesn’t let the receivers dictate anything to him.  The young man has been very well coached with his technique and he says cornerback coach Cory Undlin is very demanding, which he likes about him.  Mills says Undlin is pushing him to be a better player and more technically sound.

“I’m taking this time off that we have here to better myself, better my game, get stronger, get faster, get quicker”, Mills said.  “I was kind of talking to some of the guys and it’s like now it’s the SEC all over again.  I’m going against those top tier wide receivers, top tier quarterbacks, top running backs the mental focus has to be out of the roof.  Everybody’s athletic  It’s more about having the technique solid and having that mental focus.”

Yesterday he took most of the reps at the left cornerback spot.

Second-year cornerback Eric Rowe seems to be struggling.  His footwork just doesn’t seem to be up to par and despite staying with his coverage for most of the play, his technique has been breaking down at the end.  The youngster is working hard, but defensive back coach Undlin seems to be on him all practice.

I saw a blur get off the ball on the right side of the Eagles defense yesterday and I was shocked to realize it was Marcus Smith.  He may be finally come to life. I said “May” I’m still not sold on him until gets in there and does it in regular season games consistently.

Vinny Curry has been coming off the corner on the snap of the ball, like man on a mission. I expect that out of Curry and this should be a big year for him.

Fletcher Cox could have an amazing season, if he’s playing like he can in this defense.  He was made for this defense.  If they don’t sign him now and he has a 12-15 sack season at the defensive tackle spot, he’s going to want $120 million dollar deal.

Jalen Mills appears to be a real Player with upside and not only has a great chance of making the 53 ManSquad but a real chance to play and contribute as a Rookie ..
McKelvin will be 1 Starter and then it’s Nolan Carroll, Rowe, Mills , Sheppard, Brooks, Rice , Countess all competing at CB …
I could See Mills getting Reps at Safety as well where he can be a Backup in case of Injury to Jenkins/McLeod
It’s funny that with all the hoopla around Top Pick Carson Wentz, it could very well end up being the 5th Round (RB Smallwood) & 7th Round Draft Picks Jalen Mills & Alec McAllister who actually contribute to the 2016 Eagles
Then the early Round Selections of Wentz/Seumalo who may not see much action until 2017

I can see Jalen Mills, and Eric Rowe as the permanent starters at CB before the end of the year; Two big athletic, Physical Corners.

I agree with you paulman I have also been hearing good things about Jalen Mills. I think he will have to make his claim to fame at corner safety at this point is locked down unless the injury bug bites. The competition at corner is not incredibly strong he has just as good of a chance as any to win the job if not early than later in the season. He ran a terrible 40 at the combine, but for some reason I don’t know why he ran a much better 40 at his pro day.

Bradford dominates OTAs on the field and off the field. Bradford has established himself as the clear leader of this team. Not having to rehab this off-season and focus strictly on football and reports from beat writers as well as the coach is that Bradford is killing it along with J Matthews. He is checking out of bad plays, going down field and quite frankly the best player on offense. Then reports talk about the aura he has in the locker room and that he is the clear cut leader hands down. players are gravitating towards him and he has bought in. Daniels, Wentz and Bradford have formed this bond that is to be commended. The 1st week of July players(including Wentz who was invited) are going to SD to work out for a week and to strengthen their bond. With all the computer tough talk when Bradford does something deemed wrong its typical Philly bullshit not to post on everything that he does right. Its what I expected from the Im smarter than all the other fans in the room crowd. What if Bradford actually does play well?

Well Bradford has been the best QB in history with a helmet, shorts, no pads and no tackling defense– the story goes his pro day at Oklahoma was historically great, his performance at the combine off the charts and now this week (June) he is a dominate QB at practice–
so the ‘what if bradford actually does play well? question….my answer is consistent, please sammy play your way into the HOF as an eagle– PLEASE– i’m not confident he will but PLEASE!

Dag- Howie & Jeffery spent a fortune in Guarantee money on 3 QBs plus assets ( when you overspend on 1 position you massively under spend on another) With 3 massive QB purchases only one can be correct so 66% of Howie off season QB decisions will be incorrect.

I wonder what those same sports economic gurus you speak of think about giving Chase Daniel a 150 % raise for 1 career TD pass in NFL seven seasons?; or Bradford a 40% raise for never having a winning record in six season?;or the “sports economic success” rate of hiring North Dakota State football players at NFL skill positions ?

son you want everything both ways. Philly sports teams are damned if they do and damned if they don’t– you are on record as saying they better sign cox– you are also on record as saying that if howie signs cox and cox ends up injured and unproductive that he should be fired…it doesn’t work that way.

Who gives a damn about three qbs being under contract with good money coming their way?

After this season, it will only be 2 anyways in Wentz and Daaniels.

We have a qb on the roster in sam bradford that will be auditioning for other teams and giving Philly back a draft pick. And another qb in daniels who will help sam in that regard by helping speeding up the process by helping sam learn the offense. (Since daniel played and knows the offense well).

This will only help the franchise guy for a year. Philly is looking forward to 2030. Not just this 2016 season with new coaches and schemes head to toe on both sides of the football. Not to mention we have hired a few people in the office as well.

Money well spent.

Especially if we get back a 2nd or 3rd in a qb hungry league.

My biggest concern going into 2016 is the wr position by far..and it isnt even close.

The defense with new coaching should and will get better as season goes on. Especially if our lbs stay healthy.

One part of this philly team i think will surprise most fans this year is the secondary.

With a great passrush, with great dline play and healthy lbs, our corners will not have to be darrelle revis etc. Our safety tandem will only help our corners out as well.

Coaching, and not letting your corner backs out to dry will only benefit our players as well. Philly has some very nice depth and regard to the cornerback position. And I really think our Corners are going to surprise people with leodis mckelvin Eric Rocha Corey Shepard Nolan Carroll and undrafted free agent Denzel rice.

I say Bradford does play well. Doug Pederson is bringing in a QB friendly O that Bradford should excel in. No more Micky mouse BS in wanna be Chip Kelly’s O. We have a real coach who actually played the game at a pro level at the helm. Our line is improved which will also help Bradford. Only question mark is the RB’s at this point. Can Mathews and Sproles stay healthy?

Sam will play well Dman. I truely believe he can break a few reacords this year for qbs in philly history. Maybe another completion %? Yardage?

It will all depend on this wr corp. Can jordan take that next step? Can huff and randle be an improvement.

Its still early, but nelson has had a shaky camp so far with drops report indicate.

That scares the hell out of me.

But at the same time there is no way he can not play any better than last year. He will be with the same QB in back-to-back years with the same Personnel around him. He will be one year wiser stronger and bigger and will know what to expect. Nelson alcohol should take a giant step we’re hoping. The kid has it all from speed and quickness. He just has to secure those drops. Apparently he bought a jug machine for his house

If you are Nelson A Galore or the Philadelphia Eagles this could not have came at a better time if something like this is to happen.
You hope nothing like this comes about at all don’t get me wrong.

But being that it is this just happened after OTAs and minicamp concluded. There is 45 days until Camp until then hopefully this matter is resolved

To rape a stripper at a busy establishment in the middle of the day seems highly improbable. They have safeguards for girls alone in private rooms and security. This isn’t a corner strip club. That stripper would of ran out of that room crying and yelling rape as soon as she got out of that room. Dive me a break. She probably serviced him thought she was getting his number, got her feelings hurt had her girls chirp in her ear rape.

Per Bleacher Report: Cox and Barwin are the other 2 Eagles with Aglohor lol. Barwin put out this statement. What a pussy move by Barwin.

As a result of my name being mentioned in conjunction with this alleged incident, I would like to clarify that I was only present at the establishment for a very short period of time and have no knowledge about anything that happened after I left the establishment. I stopped by there for about a half hour to meet my teammates, and left at around 2:30 pm.”

On some brighter news..I was able to speak with one of my customers at my sports bar who so happens to teach at La Costa Canyon high school, and she told me that Mickey Moniak is a very well liked kid who got good grades and comes from a very well rounded family here in So Cal. Let’s hope this kid turns out to be something special!

I ‘ve read and seen a couple interviews with Moniak and he seems real grounded and mature for his age which should bode well for the start of his Career
I also read where he was so excited to be Drafted by the Phils that he is going to officially change his name to “Mickey Morandini II” though his Mother & Father are not too happy about that…

People are saying Aglohor situation not making sense. First off we know he wasnt drunk. Eagles got done with OTAs @ 1:00 he probably showered and by the time they got there it was 2:00 thats why Barwin said he was their 30 min and left at 2:30. 2nd the money aspect is paid up front before you go in the back.So the stripper getting stiffed for money probably isnt true. 3rd if the stripper wanted money she would never have filed charges because in the State of PA they dont have to drop those charges so a deal for money is automatically off the table she would have to sue him in civil court after the trial.. She would of extorted him not to go public before hand if she was looking for money right away. 4th she if she is lying she wont ever work in the industry again she has nothing to gain with lying it seems. This is a theory.
