Notes From The Phillies’ 3-2 Win Over Miami

The Philadelphia Phillies won their sixth straight game on Thursday afternoon, taking down the Marlins 3-2. Their record improves to 11-9.

On The Mound

  • Jeremy Hellickson turned in another solid outing, allowing just one run over six innings.
  • Hellickson scattered six hits, and did not allow a walk. His ERA currently stands at 1.80.
  • Edubray Ramos pitched to one batter in the seventh, allowing a single.
  • Joely Rodriguez came on and faced two batters, hitting one with a pitch and getting a groundout on Dee Gordon.
  • Pat Neshek came on to finish the inning, and while he did allow an inherited run to score, the veteran picked up the final two outs to end the inning.
  • Joaquin Benoit pitched a scoreless eighth.
  • Hector Neris, who had been a little shaky over his last few appearances, slammed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth for his third save.

At The Plate

  • The offense managed three runs on seven hits.
  • Daniel Nava started in left, and began the game with a walk. Nava would later come around to score on a groundout from Odubel Herrera to give the team an early lead.
  • Herrera would knock in another run in the third, following a triple from Freddy Galvis.
  • Galvis hit out of the two-hole, and had a productive game, going 2-4.
  • Maikel Franco went 2-3 with a couple of singles and a walk.
  • Michael Saunders went 1-4 and scored the third run of the day on a triple from Brock Stassi in the seventh.
  • Stassi started at first for Tommy Joseph, and went 1-3.
  • Andrew Knapp caught the game, going 1-2 with a walk.

Final Thoughts

A six-game winning streak.

Since starting out the season 3-7, the Phils are now 8-2 in their last 10 games. They’ve spent most of April batting division opponents, and while they blew a couple of winnable games against the Nationals and Mets, they’ve stood tall on their way to sole possession of second place.

Even the most negative fan if you told them with that early schedule that they’d be 11-9 20 games in you’d have been happy. Getting quality pitching, hope this Nola thing is minor.

Holy shit Hellickson is 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA. Is it possible that a cy young candidate will be on the trade block at the deadline? Or is there a chance the Phil’s are in it ?
