The Philadelphia Phillies lost their second straight game on Wednesday night, falling to the Angels 7-0. Their record drops to 39-66.

On The Mound

  • Jake Thompson got another start, and pitched five innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits.
  • Thompson was lit up for all seven runs in the third inning. Only two of his runs were earned.
  • Thompson gave up three homers.
  • Adam Morgan pitched two scoreless innings.
  • Jesen Therrien mopped up with a scoreless eighth.

At The Plate

  • The offense was shutout.
  • None of the team’s six hits went for extra bases.
  • Cesar Hernandez went 2-4 with a walk.
  • Freddy Galvis and Odubel Herrera went 1-4.
  • Tommy Joseph, Hyunn Soo Kim, and Maikel Franco each went 0-4.
  • Daniel Nava returned to the lineup, and went 0-4.
  • Cameron Rupp went 0-3.
  • Andrew Knapp went 1-2 with a walk.

Final Thoughts

Well, it didn’t take long for the team’s offense to come crashing down to earth.

The team has scored just one run in the first two games of the series against the Angels.

Only two of Jake Thompson’s runs were earned tonight, but it wasn’t good to see him struggle to keep the ball in the park, allowing three long balls on the night. He’s got an opportunity to carve out a spot in the rotation for himself next year now that Jeremy Hellickson is gone, and the team would love to see him run with the opportunity.
