Notes From The Phillies’ 7-6 Loss To New York

The Philadelphia Phillies lost their second straight game on Friday night, falling to the Mets 7-6. Their record drops to 42-71.

On The Mound

  • Nick Pivetta was lit up once again, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings of work.
  • Jesen Therrien got the final out of the fifth, and came back for a scoreless sixth.
  • Adam Morgan pitched a scoreless seventh, and got the first out of the eighth.
  • Edubray Ramos came on and got the final two outs of the eighth.
  • Hector Neris gave up a run on three hits in the ninth to take the loss.

At The Plate

  • The offense put up six runs on 13 hits.
  • Cesar Hernandez had a big night, going 2-3 with a solo homer in the eighth and working two walks.
  • Freddy Galvis went 2-5 with a double.
  • Odubel Herrera went 2-4 with a double, driving in a run and working a walk.
  • Rhys Hoskins hit out of the cleanup spot, going 0-4 with a walk and leaving five men on base.
  • Nick Williams went 2-5 with a couple singles and drove in a run.
  • Maikel Franco went 1-5 with a single and an RBI.
  • Tommy Joseph went 2-4 with a double and drove in two.
  • Jorge Alfaro went 1-5 with three strikeouts.

Final Thoughts

Rhys Hoskins has yet to break through with his first major league hit after two starts. The production isn’t there yet, but he’s at least been giving some decent at-bats and seeing some pitches.

Meanwhile, Nick Pivetta’s ERA has now risen above 6.00. I’m not sure how much longer the team can keep him in the rotation at this point.
