Notes From The Phillies’ 9-1 Loss To Atlanta

The Philadelphia Phillies had their two-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Braves 9-1. Their record drops to 49-82.

On The Mound

  • Jerad Eickhoff endured a rough start on the mound, lasting just two innings and getting lit up for six runs.
  • Eickhoff gave up three runs in the first, and another in the second. He began the third inning by giving up back-to-back doubles, setting up another four-run inning.
  • Jesen Therrien relieved Eickhoff, and got through three innings, but gave up three runs of his own.
  • Yacksel Rios managed to pitch three scoreless to mop of most of the remainder of the game.
  • Edubray Ramos came out to work the ninth.

At The Plate

  • The offense managed one run on seven hits.
  • Jorge Alfaro went 2-3 with a couple singles and drove in the team’s only run.
  • Rhys Hoskins went 1-4 with a single, extending his hitting streak to 11 games.
  • Cesar Hernandez went 1-4 with a single.
  • Freddy Galvis went 0-2.
  • Nick Williams went 1-4 with a single.
  • Tommy Joseph went 1-4 with a single.
  • Maikel Franco went 0-3 with a walk.
  • Pedro Florimon went 1-4 with a single.

Final Thoughts

Well, this was a thoroughly deflating opener to the team’s latest doubleheader.

Jerad Eickhoff, who has had a disappointing season, was lit up early, and left the game with an apparent injury. The team might want to just shut him down at this point, and let him come back next season fresh.
