Reid & Lurie On Burress: Haven’t Considered Him Yet, But May In The Future

The Eagles could decide to sign former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress, but it’s going to mean that the big wide receiver has made a serious about face regarding his attitude with his coaches, his team and his teammates.

Head coach Andy Reid intimated that the Birds haven’t even got to the stage where they have made a decision about Burress.

“I know Plaxico. I haven’t even looked at [his availability]. There’s nothing you can do there,” Reid said. “Plax hasn’t played for a couple of years. We know what he was about when he played.”

I find it hard to believe that Reid and his staff havent’ made a decision about whether or not to pursue Burress. You and I know that if the Eagles do anything, they put together a game plan. Reid even admitted that they have an aggressive “free agent plan” in place, so wouldn’t it make sense that Burress would have been discussed when the plan was being put together.

Remember to watch what the Eagles do and not what they say. As far as I’m concerned I think the Birds are interested. In past Reid has been very open out who they’re not interested in as compared to who they are interested in.

Burress had more problems getting along with his coaches and team rules in New York with Tom Coughlin than Michael Vick did in Atlanta.

Birds owner Jeffrey Lurie let it be known that they weren’t willing to bring in a guy who would jeopardize the team chemistry. He spelled it out yesterday and it sounded like they don’t want any part of the a guy who has been suspended numerous times for being late and described as being uncoachable during stretches of his career.

Vick made the change but that’s no guarantee that Burress will make the same change and the Eagles would be willing to take the chance.

“We evaluate case by case. It involved a lot of research into Michael – what kind of teammate he was. What his motivations were. How much he cared for the game,” Lurie said. “We’ve shown we’ll take chances if it’s warranted.”

“It would be similar,” Lurie said. “Any player, if there’s issues off the field, we have to ascertain . . . are they going to represent the Eagles and the community that we serve? Are they going to be part of events like this? Michael has shown this. If a player is not willing to be part of the culture we have, then I don’t think it’s a good fit.”

The other problem that might occur to prevent the Eagles from signing Burress is the fact that they don’t need him as much as other team might. The St. Louis Rams need a top receiver desperately. The New York Jets might wind up needing Burress more than the Birds. Of course you know that the team which needs him the most will probably be willing to give up more to get him.

All in all, I thought Lurie was pouring water on the idea of the Birds signing Burress, but he might have been doing it to make other teams feel the Birds are going in another. Making other teams believe that may give the Birds to get in there and get a deal done before they find out the Eagles want to sign him.

This is a perfect scenario for plaxico for he will play against the Giants at least twice and play for a rival. NFL players love that type of stuff to stick it to a team that gave up on you, He gets to play with vick who was in the same situation as him which would give him lots of media press. And he does not have to produce at being a number 1 2 or 3 WR,

All of this bullshite, is a smoke screen. Once the lock out ends, & Burress passes a physical, the Birds are going to sign him to a one year incentive laid contract. Read between the lines with all the interviews. Where there’s fire gents. Plus, if he comes back & shows he is anything close to what he was, he would be insurance incase of injuries to glassman Jackson.

I don’t see any team thinking that Buress is a #1/#2 WR at this stage.. The man hasn’t played in the NFL in ove r2 years..and has a lot of baggage with him.. If you are a team that needs help at WR (Rams,.Redksins,Browns) it would sense to go after a Randy Moss, TO, TJ Houzhmazada, Ochocinco who have played and readdy to contribute from day 1.. Why would a Team needing WR Help sign Buress only to hope that he can make a comeback within a years time when the are many other players/options out their at WR (S Rice,V Jackson,M FLoyd that it makes no sense..
Only solid good team who could use a certain WR (tall for Red-zone) for 15-20 snaps a game will be interested, which could be the Pats/Jets/Redskins/Eagles.. No Teams are counting on Buress to be able to come in and be that 50-60 Snap player at age 34 and out of the Sport for 2 years… C’Mon Now…

Burress would create a good Red Zone option for the birds. You simply sign him so the Giants, Cowboys, Redskins dont have him to burn us again. I don’t think he has much left. Scary thinking of Burress, Maclin, Jackson, MCcoy, and a running Qb in Vick. I would consider Houzhmanzadeh too. That is if we ever play.

This owner is the weasel and reid the fat pig. I will not let them hold me hostage. We will not see a SB with fat boy or this fairy owner together. They will continue to tease the fans like a lap dance at a strip club. That fat slob Reid could be here 20 yrs and all we would be able to say is, we got close
