DeSean Should Shut Up About The Defense And Make Some Plays

DeSean Jackson made some statements after the game on Sunday that were critical of his defensive teammates.

“Anytime you go for it on fourth-and-one and don’t make it, the defense really has to step up and rally around and kind of help us with momentum and things like that,” Jackson said in the locker room after the game. “We were up two points at that point. They went down and scored on a play I kind of thought … it shouldn’t have really happened.”

“I’m just very confident in our defensive backs and things like that. They’ve just got to do a better job – everybody has to do a better job. Defense, offense, special teams, coaches, players. We’re 1-2. It’s not like us. So we’re not going to panic. We’re just going to keep playing football. It’s early in the season. I think we’re going to be alright. We just have to find a way to get some wins.”

Jackson has to know that he shouldn’t be saying anything about the defense needing to play better. He needs to focus on helping the offense play better.

If he’s got anything to say to his defensive teammates, he’s needs to say it to them in private. There’s no way in the world that a big play receiver like DeSean should say the defense needs to play better after a game in which he catches only two passes for 30 yards.

He dropped a key pass in the second half on third down with the game on the line. The pass was on target and hit his hands but he didn’t hang onto it.

At the end of the game, Mike Kafka threw a deep pass his way and he’s didn’t give his best effort to breaking up the interception by Kenny Phillips.

What was that saying about people who are living in glass houses not throwing stones? Put down the rocks, DeSean.

Probably the only good news for the Eagles (Front office that is) is that D-Jax is playing his way into a smaller Contract if he keeps putting these pale Stats up every week and keeps dropping Passes…3 Catches for 30 Yards isn’t cutting it .. I heard Agent Drew Rosenhaus wanted to sit down with Banner last week and Banner blew him off and said, “we’ll talk after the Season”…
D-Jax is a goner my friends…

pman- maybe maybe not. If he keeps this up he is. But the birds will not just let him walk away. It wont happen. He will turn it around… i think the entire team will as well.

Phills cracked 100. so….. love ya man but…. you got toasted on that one. Its all good… you are forgiven.

he should gtfo of here, he didn’t sell the route on kafka’s first pick either, i bet vick would rather have a guy big enough to run a quick slant over the middle and avoid getting killed waiting for”boney james’ to run deep on every play, there is a reason he was not a first round pick and you are seeing, hearing it

I hear ya Stevo,
I orgianlly called for 94 Wins and the last couple weeks were rough for them once they clinched.. PLayed well last evening and should be in good shape for World Series Run (this back en d of the bullpen scares me a little for Stutes,Bastardo and Madons have struggled over the last month..)
Lidge has actually pitched very well and they will get Worley and Kendrick to probably help out in the Bullpen too.. I wished they had a 2nd LHP in the Bullpen and this may be an important miss once the playoffs come..

there is a reason he was not a frist round pick and you are seeing, hearing it? you’re never caese to amaze me Jake….
you do know that no WR was drafted in the 1st round in 2008, right? 2008 was a weak draft class for WR’s….

All WR’s that went before DJAX are as follows….
Donnie Avery Rams, Devin Thomas Skins, Jordy Nelson Packers, James Hardy Bills, Eddie Royal Broncos, Jerome Simpson Bengals

Did his Houdini act again on Sunday. At least he didn’t drop a TD pass like he did in weeks 1 and 2. The fist thing that he should be talking about is his lack of production if he wants to talk about how the team needs to improve. Way to gloss over the fact that the offense can’t convert 5 chances to get 1 yard.

no doubt about that, bugsy…he definitely needs to step up…he is not playing like a top WR the last two weeks…partly him to blame, but another part would probably be the play calling…none of us are in the huddle

@real, the last thing this team needs is a malcontent that’s underperforming, the team has enough underperformers, the eagles need a wideout who can go across the middle, take a hit, thats where im hoping they go, maclin is enough of a deep threat to spread the d, reid better figure out that he needs an intermediate pass option or his qb will get killed, and im not talking figuratively, if vick continues with this beating i fear for his life, he was not right on sunday, celek had to yank him off the field, only so many blows to the head can one take

I’m sure the defense is thinking similar thoughts when he’s dropping touchdowns and first down catches. He’s not exactly doing his part and plays the usual disappearing act since he’s a one trick pony so he definitely does not need to be saying those things. Sure he can think it and I’m sure almost every offensive player is thinking it. But I’m pretty sure the defense had some unkind thoughts about the offense. But you just don’t say it, not publicly anyway.

Paulmans Top 10 in the NFC after Week #3

#1) Packers (3-0)
#2) Lions (3-0)
#3) Saints (2-1)
#4) TB Bucs (2-1)
#5) Cowboys (2-1)
#6) Redksins (2-1)
#7) Giants (2-1)
#8) 49ers (2-1)
#9) Bears (1-2) They beat the Falcons
#10) Falcons (1-2) They beat the Eagles

The Eagles and other remaining 5 Teams are not worth listing right now(Seahawks ,Cardinals,Panthers,VIkings and Rams)

and I am serious about these rankings, forget the hype, hoopla and All-In Garbage for it means absolutley bunk right now and if the Eagles fall to the 2-1 49ers at home this SUnday, you can write the Season off as far as I am concernend anmd yes it’s a long season but with only 16 games and if the Eagles were to lose and drop a 3rd game in the NFC COnference, they will not make it to the Playoffs plain and smiple.. SO when I say that this weekend’s contest versus the 49ers is th emost important game the EAgles will play this Season, I am no joking about it.. 2-2 is salvageable, 1-3 and falling to 10-12th place in the NFC is too much of a hole to climb out of and they are playing like this against thoe “soft” and “easy” part of their schedule.. Road trips to Seattle where they always play like crap, play at Buffalo and Miami where they have not faired too well in recent trips then home games versus Patriots & Jets… and then of course the other 5 NFC East Divisional Games which will all be difficult games..

It seems like it’s best to say “No Comment” and be called boring, than to actually be honest and be criticized. Teammate or no, he didn’t say anything that no one here hasn’t said or thought in regards to that game. You can’t have it both ways; criticizing Andy Reid for not being open, and then criticizing Jackson for speaking. He’s a streaky small receiver who is a potential game breaker and spreads the field for the entire offense.

As long as i can remember, people complained about not having enough speed at the wideout position. Now all I hear is how he doesn’t go over the middle and drops key passes. Didn’t people spend a few days criticizing Maclin for dropping a key pass? Drops happen. Sounds like a case of Asante Samuel Pt. 2 – everyone complained about him not tackling and being physical enough, yet conveniently forgetting that he was bought in for his coverage skills and to actually hold on to an interception.

Cripes Sah, he can say what he wants, but he needs to own up to his own subpar play. He is claiming that he should have top WR money, but he doesn’t show up like a top WR every week. That is why he is being criticized so much. I could care less if he goes across the middle, but their are a lot of top WRs that teams try to take out the game but can’t, yet somehow he can be taken out of a game. Is some of that playcalling, sure but the rest is that there are times when he can’t get open like last week. Then tack on the fact that he doesn’t take any personal responsibility and this is what you get. Any defender on the team could come out and say it would be nice to have the GD offense be able to score when you have 1st down and less than 1, but they didn’t.

Lions beat Tampa Bay and Vikings on the Road and blewout the KVC CHiefs at Home, they are 3-0 (1 of 2 Teams in the NFC undefeated and deserve their ranking..)
And put the Kool-Aid Gloomy and stop that wishful thinking that they are going to go 11-2 or 10-3 over their remaining 13 games.. I don’t see this Defense stopping anyone and with Vick’s up and down play and the high turnover rate, I see them finishing with about 6-7 wins with no playoffs in sight…. Playoffs, Did you say Playoffs, Playoffs… really now…
There are a lot more better teams in the NFC than in recent yers and the Lions,TB Bucs, join the Packers,Saints,Falcons,Bears,Giants,Cowboys and even the redskins as legitimate Playoff contendors..

the bucks suck they hav no speed on d or o only team that the eagles should get a test from the rest of the year is the cowgirls, the gaymen& thedead skins the pats dont scare me at all with that defense they hav outside of the division i dont see a threat who are u scared of miami, seahawks, the cards, the bears ,the bills, the 49ers,come on man if we lose any games the rest of the way it will be within the divison come on when they there back up ends back tapp, parker there gonna be even more nasty i dont care about the lbs chaney is ok they need to get that casey got out of there.and at safety i want them to either pick up darren sharper,oh by the way paulman men lie women lie but the stats dont we owned the atl and the gmen in yards t.o.p. every thing we should be 3-0 right now if vick doesnt get hurt in either game we blow both teams out hey paulman if you dont believe me go look at the stats and dont anybody on here tell me about the run d i know alot of people are gonna laugh at me but the run D is not as bad as it looks they stop the run in all three games for large chunks of it then they would let a big run get by them then it makes there stats look bad. if nobody believes me then go rewatch the all games the tape dont lie.

The Saints are a lot like the Eagles but I would give the Edge to the Saints with a better QB and a better Head Coach/Play-calling.. I don’ t think the Eagles Defense can stop Brees & Company where the EAgles will self-detruct once or twice giveing away scoring opportunities.. Saints 38 – Eagles 30
If they were to play 10 times, Saints would get them 6 or 7 Times
TO Gllomysmitty, I am not sure why you continue to estimate and overrate this Eagle Team.. This Defense is horrible , Yes they have better pressure and more sacks, but will give up a lot of big plays and runs which we have alreay seen in 3 weeks so far.. How many playos of 20 Yards or more has this Defense given up.. The LB and Safety Corp are what they are which is poor, will they improve, maybe a little but to say they are going to be faster, bigger, stronger at the point of attack would be a stretch at this point..
This Eagle Team is about a .500 team to me, a inconsistent big play-big mistake QB, a excellent RB in McCoy, a Good but not great WR Corp, little production from the TE’s and a average OL (Peters is Pro-Bowler)
Let’s go to Defense, A Good DL with 3 very good players in Cole,Babin and Jenkins… Solid Depth across the DL with the otherse along the DL, but Poor LB’s, Weak Safeties and Very Good CB’s add this with a New DC who has a lot to learn in a short period of time, I grade this team a Above Average Talemnt wise but with questionable coaching and schemes, so I knock them Overall Team down to Average

So… did anyone else hear Sal Pal on 97.5 late this afternoon? He had some intereting stats on the number of roughing the passer penalties that the Eagles benefited from. It was surprising how much it favored the Eagles compared to most other teams.

A stat Sal Pal gave that I found interesting was regarding his argument that the birds need to be more creative in finding ways to get DJax open now that teams are keying on him more. Per Sal Pal and ESPN stats, since the Giants game last year in which DJax won the game for the birds with the punt return, DJax has caught 37% of the passes thrown to him. Down 10% from his career avg of 47% which is a significant drop and far more likely from the coverage than his contract status. Sal also stated that the NFL avg number of receptions is 60% for WRs. He also gave stats on TDs and dropped passes but I’m not sure I remember them.accurately. I think a DJax career avg of less then 50% indicates his need to work on his ball handling skills if he ever wants to become a great receiver but, some on this site get pissed off when I criicize DJax.

The Eagles, particularly Andy Reid and Moron-wig, have made many of the mistakes sports writers and posters have continually pointed out. True enough. That being said, an accurate assessment wont be possible until at least two-thirds of the season has elapsed. Although, thus far, it has been agonizingly painful watching the same mistakes time and again, I think we’ll, nevertheless, have to wait at least that long before we can accurately guage them and their handlers (Reid, Moron-wig, Mudd, Castillo, Washburn, et al). Sure it’s been painful, but it’s only fair to them AND to ourselves.

Jackson didn’t “sell” the route…LOL that’s a new one. Kafka, like one “dearly departed” Eagle has a baby arm. Reid should have stayed conservative and allowed Kafka to continue playing his check down game where someone may have been able to break it open off of a shorter route. Ultimately I don’t have a problem with DJax criticizing the defense, all of the TDs that the Giants scored were ridiculous missed tackle plays that just shouldn’t have happened and made the defense look amateur. The Cruz and Jacobs TDs were passes thrown pretty much in the same freakin identical spot on the field.

As far as DJax not catching passes there’s no way the lack of a contract is not effecting the guy and his play on the field, with or without an insurance policy. I think Winston Justice is ready to play and Herremans needs to move back to the left side to solidify part of Vick’s protection and the running game on at least one side of the line. I think Justice was taken off of the PUP list either last week or the week before.

DJax has been M I A for all three of the games, so far. He’s giving up on route running, no selling the plays & playing hesitantly- per NFL films, my source. Not the hacks in the media in this city. He is as good as gone! He ain’t getting nothing close to what Rice & Holmes got! He’s out of his mind if he thinks so!

Lets calm down and not over react about the first 3 games. They will be fine! If they lose to San Fran this week then its time to worry. Also Desean needs to be on this team. Asante is the one who is expendable….trade him for a LB.

Desean is the main reason our offense is super fast. Without Desan, McCoy and Vick have way less room to work with! Its not all about stats people, he opens the field and draws double teams. That is why Celek, macklin, Avant, Smith ect. have 1 on 1 coverage all the time!
