Jamie Moyer Signs Contract With The Rockies

There are guys who love to play baseball and they don’t ever want to stop.  One of those guys is Jamie Moyer, who is now 49 years old.  Yesterday he came an agreement with the Colorado Rockies on a minor league contract.

If he passes the physical, Moyer has an invitation to the Rockies spring training.  He had Tommy John surgery in December of 2010 and missed the entire 2011 season, but I understand he’s been throwing and looking good to scouts.

If he plays in 2012, it will be his 25th year in the big leagues.

Excellent news! I have a ton of respect for Mr. Moyer and I think all Philadelphians will always remember him fondly. Jamie led the rotation with 16 wins and 33 starts in 2008. His ERA was a very respectable 3.71.

I can envision a day 30-40 years from now when I’m telling my future grandchildren about the year we won the World Series after years and years of waiting, and reminiscing fondly about the 45 year old starting pitcher who helped get us there.

Congrats to a class act and one of the real good guys in Sports who is still a fine Pitcher if 100% Healthy. Pulling for him to make the Rockies and visit CBP to Pitch vs the Phils.. He’s a great lockerroom guy and a real mentor for young Pitchers and would probably make a great Pitching Coach if he chose to do so.

Couple of Phillis in the news

Reds aquired back-up IF WIlson Vadelz from the Phils for a Minor League Pitching Prospect
Brad LIdge signed a 1 year Deal worth approx $1 Million in Salary with the Washington Nationals and will most likely be a Set-up Pitcher (7th/8th Inning Pitcher) in ther Bullpen. The Nationals currently have Set-Up Pitcher Tyler Clippard and Closer Drew Storen (who has 43 Saves for the Nats last season)
but Lidge’s expereince and versatility can help a young bullpen out over a season as the Nationals continue to retool their line-up with quality players and people..
