Vick Wanting To Start Is A Delicate Balance

It’s a good thing that Michael Vick still wants to start. ¬†It tells me he’ll be ready to help this team if and when they need him.¬† On the other hand if he didn’t want to start, he shouldn’t be on the team.

A PLAYER WHO WANTS TO SIT THE BENCH IS STEALING FROM THE TEAM AND WON’T BE READY TO PLAY WHEN THEY’RE CALLED ON.

Truthfully I wouldn’t want a guy on my team that didn’t want to start.¬† It is against the heart and desire of a true athlete to want to sit the bench.

If you were alone with each and every player in the entire NFL and asked them if they wanted to start, each of them would tell you, yes.¬† Any they told you they didn’t want to start are thieves.

I don’t see anything wrong with Vick wanting to start again, as long as he controls that desire and doesn ‘t let it lead him to do anything to hurt this football team.

It’s the same I way I felt when Kevin Kolb was backing up Donovan McNabb and told people he wanted to start.¬† It’s fine as long as you’re not saying it all the time and trying to divide the team.

I’ve seen backup players¬† undermine their starting teammates and ultimately hurt the football team.¬† A team is vulnerable to a player of Vick’s notoriety dividing them by pointing out Kolb’s errors to his teammates.

If and when the team struggles it would be easy for Vick to point out Kolb’s mistakes to his teammates as a way of creating division.

In addition, I don’t need to read and hear him talking about the fact that he wants to start all the time.¬† I’ll let it go now because this is the offseason and he’s being asked the question.

Going forward we don’t need to hear that information from him throughout the season.¬† Again, I don’t have a problem with him wanting to start because wanting to start should be a prerequisite for being on the team.

I have known and seen third string quarterback who didn’t want to start and they were thieves who stunk up the place when they got on the field.¬† Players don’t respect other players who don’t want to start but just stay on the bench and steal.

Do you have a problem with Vick wanting to start?  If so why?

Of Course G ,
Vick is an athlete and a competitor, No one wants to practice, study, keep in shape and not play,
I would be concerned if he stated that he was content on just being a back-up…
I think all players have to have this mind-set of being a Starter or at least a contributor…
If not, then why bother playing the game…

G, I don’t think some people have a problem with the fact Vick wants to start, they have a problem with him saying he wants to start. There’s nothing wrong with him preparing like a starting QB and having that mindset, but keep it to yourself. No one needs to hear that especially the starting QB. I had no problem with Kolb wanting to start, but I had a problem with him saying it everytime he had the chance. Just know your role, prepare and be ready when your number is called but until then, be the ultimate professional and team mate right now and be content. Vick should be content that he’s even in the league making all that money for 5 plays a game if that.

I have no problem with Vick saying he wants to start, should be starting, or is disappointed that the Eagles didn’t leave the competition door open for him to compete for the starting job. With the organization calling Kolb personally to hand him the starting job after the McNabb trade, giving him a big fat contract without him having to prove anything of course Vick feels like he needs to raise his hand publicly and reassert the fact the he’s actually still wearing an Eagles uniform and is the ONLY player on the team that’s actually qualified to start at quarterback. Had the Eagles left Kolb’s contract situation the way it was and stated that the QB position would be decided after summer camp this kind of thing wouldn’t happen.
