Thoughts From the Mini Camp

I had my mind focused on Kevin Kolb and how he would do in his first mini camp and didn't make it a point to take a close look at the guy who could be playing quarterback for the Eagles next year and that's current starter A.J. Feeley.

Feeley was quick with his reads and very accurate with his throws during the first mini camp of the year.  I would suppose that Andy Reid and his staff feel very good about handing the ball to A.J. after watching pick apart the defense with short darts to the receivers.  Despite not being the center of attention, Feeley did an almost flawless job of running the offense.  For the all the Garcia supporters, A.J. has a better arm and does just as good a job of making decisions.  The Eagles grab Garcia out of the trash, so why can't Feeley be just as good after the Eagles have grabbed him out of the trash.  Hopefully all Feeley will do next year is hold the clip board on the sidelines.

I have some major problems with Jevon Kearse and the fact that he showed up to the mini camp weighing only 240 pounds.  He had surgery on his knee a year ago, so I can understand him not having been able to do a lot of running, but there's no excuse for him not coming to camp strong as an ox.  Why couldn't he have lifted all the time he was hurt?  His armed should be bulging like the biceps of Trent Cole, Juqua Thomas and Victor Abiamiri.  It's put up and shut up time for Jevon because nobody wants to hear about him injuring his knee.

Jeremy Bloom did look good catching punts, running routes and hauling in passes during the just concluded mini camp.  Bloom still looks like a fifth grader but he showed his speed and quickness and that made me turn my head.  This little bitty guy can run.  His feel for catching punts stood out.  You don't want to put somebody back there who looks uncomfortable fielding punts because it's not an easy thing to do when  10  oposing players  are sprinting downfield to decapitate you.  I don't know how Bloom will make out where they're live bullets being fired but he look calm and collected while fielding punts during this past mini camp.  If he can do a good job with the punts, he'll probably make the team because Andy doesn't want to put his All-Pro running back Brian Westbrook or his All-Pro cornerback  Lito Sheppard back there fielding punts, if he can help it.
