Not only did Donovan McNabb get the day off from training camp, the Eagles also let Chris Gocong and Monte Reagor have the day off.
Gocong has been getting additional looks at routes and running plays. You can't see too many plays and pass routes. He has to get to know plays and blocking schemes well enough that he can feel where a blocker is without really seeing him. He looks good but the plays he's seeing are elementary. I think he's going to be fine. I know he's anxious but he can't over do it. You've got to show patience as a SAM linebacker because it's a position which asks you to read before attacking. He's one of the number guys I'll be watching on Wednesday.
Don't take this the wrong way but I'd like to see Monte Reagor start wearing some sunglasses. That wound to his eye is awful to look at. He's got tremendous quickness and should be able to give the Birds' pass rush a shot in the arm on 3rd down.
It's fitting because the workouts were quite pedestrian with all the rookies and free agents. Most of these kids will be teaching school , selling insurance and looking for a job. I haven't seen a lot of talent beyond the names that I have mentioned in the past. The Birds have to have numbers in order to be able to practice for an extended period of time. If the rotation is too short , you end up burning out your players.
The Australian Saverio Rocca has a big leg but he's got to develop better consistency. We also don't know what he'll be able to do with a rush in his face.
