Eagles Start Pounding the Pads

The Eagles got in a lively hitting workout with Sheldon Brown laying a lick on Hank Baskett which was much like the the one he put on Reggie Bush.

Baskett like Bush caught a pass outside in the short flat area and was pounded by Brown.  Unlike Bush he was able to get up without losing his breath. 

The offense looked a bit sloppy in their first workout.  McNabb didn't really connect well with anytthing downfield during the team drills.    He was much more successful during the 7 on 7 drills and man to man competition.  I think the offense will get better and with time.  

The jury is still out on Kevin Curtis.  I wasn't impressed with his first practice but he's still getting used to the new offense.  He had more success in the one on one session than in the other drills. 

I loved what I saw of Takeo Spikes.  This guy makes plays and was an immediate impact once the hitting started.  Spikes has a feel a Will linebacker.  He knows how to use the defensive linemen to shield him from the blockers until he can pounce on the ball carrier.  

Chris Gocong looks too much like a robot at strongside linebacker but in all fairness he needs time to get used to playing the position.  He did a good job running with L.J. a few times.  He was in on a few of the running plays to his side during the live drills but he doesn't look very comfortable at the position just yet.

Stewart Bradley look much more comfortable at the position he's been playing for five or six years.   I didn't get any close looks at  Tank Daniels so I'll check him out as they continue in camp.

Brodrick Bunkley along with Mike Patterson at the other defensive tackle did a solid job stuffing up things inside in the all the run drills.  I also liked the job done by the second defensive tackle group of Ian Scott and LaJuan Ramsey. 

Jason Avant was slowed down by a cramp in his leg.
