This was awful. Andy Reid and Tom Heckert have to step up and take responsibility for this ugly loss. They sent two incompetent punt returners on the field and coughed up this game. Neither Greg Lewis nor J.R. Reed are punt returners.
They both had so much confidence in Jeremy Bloom that they didn't have another punt returner on the roster other than Brian Westbrook and Lito Sheppard. They should have sent one of them on the field at the end. This is pathetic.
Lewis was awful returning punts in the last preseason game. He caught one punt with his legs and the other one he fielded on the three yard line. You can't make this type of ridiculous mistake and expect to win in the National Football League.
The offense has to be more effective than they were. Donovan McNabb played poorly and he must get his game together. There's an APB out for number one receiver Reggie Brown. He did nothing during the preseason and he did nothing today. I knew Jason Avant was going to do something today, but that stupid penalty he got near the end of the game was awful. You can't do that especially at that point in the game.
So much for the high powered offense. Yet and still the Birds gave this game away. If J.R. Reed didn't have any confdence in fielding that last punt he should have let it roll. There wasn't even a minute left in the game. The offense wasn't doing anything so why come up and try to catch that ball.
They shouldn't even let Greg Lewis and J.R. Reed take the flight on the plane. They should do the same with Reid and Heckert who screwed up this first game by putting guys out there who can't do the job.
