Birds “D” Contribute 2 Goalline Stands

The Eagles goalline stands were outstanding.  They got their first chance after Eagles all everything safety Brian Dawkins ran down Giants running back Reuben Droughns and brought him down like cowboy in the rodeo.

On the first play, it was Omar Gaither, Kimo von Oelhoffen and Trent Cole on the stop of a run to the Eagles right side.  They did a good job of attacking the line of scrimmage and creating piles in the backfield.

On the second play, Eli Manning missed Jeremy Shockey who had beaten Birds safety Quintin Mikell on a delay route outside. Trent Cole was a factor on the Manning overthrow because he was in the quarterback's face.   This should have been an easy six for the Giants.

On third down, the Giants ran a lead to the Eagles right side with the fullback leading Droughns into the hole.  The play never had a chance as Cole, Gaither and Mike Patterson were all over the ball carrier.

In the 3rd quarter the Giants drove down inside the Eagles ten yard line and the Eagles stopped then again.  The first play of the series, Manning missed Jeremy Shockey again.  He had beaten Quintin Mikell again, but Eli couldn't connect with him.

On the second down, it was Brandon Jacobs on a tackle trap.  Brian Dawkins and Omar Gaither teamed up to bring down Jacobs.  Gaither did a good job most of the day of attacking the run plays.

On third down, I thought the Giants made a mistake by running some type of quick route to Plaxico Burress.  I would have put the ball up on an alley-oop to Burress.  Brown did a solid job against Burress on the play to keep the Eagles within striking distance.
