I just heard former Eagles Duce Staley and Jon Ritchie on ESPN 950 with Jody McDonald and they didn't think that the departure of Brian Dawkins was a big deal.
They said the Eagles have a formula and that's the way they treat everybody. They had already kept Dawkins around well past the age of 30, which is normally the cutoff for defensive backs.
Some of the fans didn't like what they had to say but both Duce and Jon said they felt the Eagles were a successful organization and they're not going to change what has been working.
I can understand Staley not being willing to make a big deal about Dawkins being let go because Duce was let go when he was the leader of the football team. He had helped Andy Reid build the team and teach those guys including Donovan how to win.
I've been told by quite a few players on those teams, that Staley was the number one leader of the football team during those years.
Staley was such a strong leader that I was told by quite a few Eagles that he would have taken care of Terrell Owens when he was acting up. Staley was as tough of a running back as any of I've seen.
