Eagles Promote Cornerback Ikegwuonu To 53 Man Roster

Ikegwuonu in his stanceThe Eagles have decided to promote cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu from their practice squad to their 53 man roster.

They must feel he’s regained all of his speed and quickness he had before the catastrophic knee injury he suffered in his last year at Wisconsin.

He didn’t look impressive to me during training camp because it ddin’t seem he had recovered his stop and start quickness.  He runs close to full speed in straight drills but he has problems changing directions.

Of course football is a lot of stop and start along with changing directions.

I thnik they’re taking a major chance in promoting him.  He’s got the size and aggressiveness but you’ve got to be able to be quick at the cornerback position.

Along with promoting Ikegwuonu, they signed cornerback Stoney Woodson to the practice squad.
Ikegwuonu (5-10, 200) was drafted by the Eagles in the fourth round in 2008, but missed the entire season with a knee injury he suffered preparing for the NFL combine.

Ikegwuonu in his stanceHe has spent the entire 2009 season on the practice squad.

A three-year letterman at Wisconsin, Ikegwuonu decided to enter the NFL draft following his junior season after earning his second consecutive first-team All-Big Ten selection. In 39 career games at Wisconsin (30 starts), Ikegwuonu finished with 91 tackles, 29 pass deflections, and six interceptions.

Woodson, 24, was originally drafted by the New York Giants in the seventh round in 2009 and saw action in two preseason games before being released on 9/6/09. In those two games, he totaled five tackles and one interception.

He is in his second stint with the Eagles practice squad this season, after originally joining the team on 10/13/09 and being released on 10/22/09.

A native of Tampa, FL, Woodson (5-10, 198) played collegiately at South Carolina, where he amassed 109 tackles and seven interceptions during his four-year career.
