Eagles Sign C/G Nick Cole To One-Year Deal

The Eagles signed G/C Nick Cole to a one-year contract.   Cole is currently the starting center.  He took over for Jamaal Jackson when he suffered an ACL tear.Cole had been a restricted free agent.

He showed he’s capable of starting but at the right guard spot but didn’t have a lot of success against Cowboys Pro Bowl nose tackle Jay Ratliff in the last two games of the season against Dallas.

Originally a rookie free agent signing of the Eagles in 2006, Cole (6-0, 350) has since seen action in every game in his four-year career, appearing in 64 regular season contests (22 starts) and six playoff games (four starts).

A versatile and tough offensive lineman, the 25-year-old Cole started in every game in 2009 at three different positions (nine at right guard, six at left guard, and two at center).

A three-year starter at New Mexico State, Cole notched a school-record 40 straight starts at both guard and tackle. The Lawton, OK, native attended Eisenhower High School, where he earned all-state honors at left guard as a senior.

Effective and useful young player, good to have him back considering how many holes this team is developing. It’s kind of surprising they don’t sign him to a longer deal with as much money as possible in the uncapped year.

You might be right. Jackson should be working out but won’t be anything close to game shape by opening day.

Cole plays 1st month of season at Center (then Jackson returns at Center) then Cole moves over to
RG to replace an ineffective Stacey Andrews… Eagles draft CB/S/LB with 1st 3 picks and
then draft a Center in the 4th Rd (#105 or #121 pick) and grab either Center M Tennant from Boston College or Center JD Walton from Baylor would be my plan
