Numerous Surprises In The First Round

The draft had quite a few surprises after starting off with everybody doing as expected.¬† Florida’s Tim Tebow was drafted by the Broncos even though they already have two young quarterbacks, but Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen wound up not making the first round even though many consider him most prepared to play right now.

1. Rams: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma -  Bradford needs help immediately starting with offensive line.

2. Lions: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska – He won’t be able to throw OL around like he did in college.

3. Bucs: Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma – I rated him ahead of Suh because he’s a better pass rusher.

4. Redskins: Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma – This shows the Redskins are going to run the football.

5. Chiefs: Eric Berry, DB, Tennessee – Chiefs couldn’t pass up this playmaker extraordinaire.

6. Seahawks: Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St. – Okung is considered the best pass blocker of the OT’s.

7. Browns: Joe Haden, DB, Florida – He was considered the best corner in the draft.

8. Raiders: Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama – He’s a great player who could help turn around Raider’s D.

9. Bills: C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson – Lynch is going to be given his walking papers.

10. Jaguars: Tyson Alualu, DE, Cal – This pick makes no sense. They could have gotten him at #20.

11. 49ers: Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers – They traded up to get a guy who was expected by some to fall out of 1st round.

12. Chargers: Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno St. – I didn’t think they had to move up so far to get this guy.

13. Eagles: Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan – Graham could be answer on leftside but was rated 3rd as pass rusher.

14. Seahawks: Earl Thomas, DB, Texas – He’s a playmaker as a safety which is a must now in every secondary.

15. Giants: Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, S. Florida – He has the biggest upside of the pass rushers but he’s raw.

16. Titans: Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech – He is the most complete pass rusher in the draft.

17. 49ers: Mike Iupati, G, Idaho – The Niners want to be able to pound the football on the ground.

18. Steelers: Maurkice Pouncey, C, Florida – Pittsburgh wants to get back to running the football.

19. Falcons: Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri – A tackling machine at outside linebacker.

20. Texans: Kareem Jackson, DB, Alabama – CB most prepared to play right now but expected to go in 2nd round.

21. Bengals: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma – He will attack defenses down the middle and help Palmer.

22. Broncos: Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech – Big athletic receiver who can help replace Marshall.

23. Packers: Bryan Bulaga, OL, Iowa – Packers need to better protect Aaron Rodgers.

24. Cowboys: Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St. – He could be the steal of the draft at this spot.

25. Broncos: Tim Tebow, QB, Florida – They think they can make him a starter at quarterback.

26. Cardinals: Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee – He’ll be a force in the middle of their defense.

27. Patriots: Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers – Here’s a starter at the cornerback position who will be physical.

28. Dolphins: Jared Odrick, DT, Penn St. – Here’s a big, physical classic 3-4 defensive end.

29. Jets: Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise St. – The Jets continue adding to that number-one rated defense.

30. Lions: Jahvid Best, RB, Cal – He’s got that special speed and quickness for the run and pass game.

31. Colts: Jerry Hughes, LB, TCU – Another pass rusher for the Colts to come off the corner.

32. Saints: Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida St. – This guy will be able to step in and play right away.

I came out the closest last year, immediately following Rex Ryans’ hiring. The Jets are my AFC team. Still, I’m Philly born, Philly bred and when I die, I’ll be Philly dead. Go Eagles.

If we don’t get Nate Allen we are screwed this year

WE NEED TO UNLOAD VICK for a second or third rounder, and then we’ll be in great shape.

Landing a CB, Safety, and LB or OL in second and third rounds would be sweet.

That said, I am disappointed we didn’t get a CB or Safety at #13, but we’ll see how it all pans out.

No on is going to give the Eagles a 2nd or a 3rd Rd pick for Vick.. He’s value has dropped,
A possibilty is the Eagels to package Vick and 4th Rd pick (#121) to move up back into the 3rd Round
but that’s about it.. With no 3rd or 5th Rd selections left and 2 Compensatory picks in the 7th that cannot be included in trades, they have limited themselves

The Eagles will recover at least one of their 3rd picks. Bank on it. Graham was 3rd ranked pass rusher behind McCoy and Suh? Well there was no way we were moving up that high so Graham was the best that we could do. Also the Giants were gonna pounce on him. Either way the pick was good. Earl Thomas is great. No doubt. However the Eagles lack of a pass rush is a much larger concern than Safety. It’s a pick your poison situation. BTW, the Iggles aren’t done. This is Rosemans first draft and he’s attempting a total Eagles make-over. Which was needed. Look for the exclamation mark to come today and tmw. E-A-G-L-E-S!

Boyer, I’m with you. The Jets D is going to be nasty. And they will pound you to death on offense and they have good WR with Cotchery, Edwards, and Holmes and their TE is nice too. Rex Ryan is doing his thing up there.

The Cowboys got more dangerous. We already can’t stop Austin. Roy stinks but if you put those 2 out there with Dez Bryant and Witten you have 4 guys over 6’2 that can make plays. Not to mention their 3 RBs that we can’t stop either. I hate them friggin cock roaches!

The Cowboys WR corps is now a Redwood forest. Only hope for the Iggles is that they put Romo on his ass..enter Graham.

Yeah, was really hoping the Cowboys wouldn’t draft Dez. The kid has mad skills and a huge chip on his shoulder. Not really a great combo for Iggles fans. How do you counter that? You kick the shit out of the QB. With a steady dose of Cole, Parker, Tapp and now Graham perhaps we can accomplish that now. I mean, thats always been Eagles football. We’ve gotten away from that recently. Sprinkle in Bunk and Patt now getting some one on one’s, cause the opposing offense cant double Cole if the opposite side is holding its own, and we might be able to get back to being the Eagles defense of old.

I think the big winners of 1st Round are Seattle, 49ers, Broncos (by acquiring extra picks in the 3rd/4th rounds) and the Jets,Cowboys & Colts got terrific players late in the round.
Losers in the 1st Round is Jacksonville who really reached with their selection, San Diego who also reached for RB who would have been avaialable later and Buffalo didn’t address their O/L or QB postion needs but did pick-up an exciting RB in CJ Spiller, I also think the Eagles gave up too much
to move up 11 spots

I’m with you Jimmy. I hope our pass rush is good enough. Our issue against the Cowboys is that their line has been so much bigger than ours that they would run the ball to wear our smaller guys down and then set us up for the pass. This is why I hope our secondary is better next season because it will help our d-line get a pass rush. But if our secondary is still suspect then they will run us to death with draw plays and then get us later with the pass. So hopefully we have a good day 2 of the draft.

Should have took Earl Thomas instead of Brandon Graham at 13…we could have stayed at 24 and got him…he has a nice edge rush but thats it…and taking Nate allen who is ok, when you could have had Taylor Mays!…and then a 7th round talent DE in the 3rd when you could og took Everson Griffen?..One of the most dissapointing drafts in Reid has ever had
