Eagles Draft Kentucky Press Technique Cornerback Trevard Lindley

The Eagles have grabbed Kentucky’s Trevard Lindley who is a cornerback with good size and is leasted at 5’11” or 6 feet and 183 pounds.¬† They are bringing him here to line up on the line of scrimmage and play press technique against receivers when the Eagles blitz.

Lindley has great ball skills, but he battled injuries in his final college seaason.

Lindley has the ability to play press coverage and jam receivers as they come off the ball.  He needs to add some weight and get bigger and stronger to deal with NFL level receivers.

During his first news conference with the Philadelphia media, he talked the conversation he had with the Eagles coaching staff, “We talked pretty much about cover and blitz and they said they play a lot of man, really. They asked when they blitz, can I guard my receivers.”

This young man can cover man to man.¬† He’s a decent tackler but he’s not a great tackler.¬† He will wrap up ball carriers but he’s not going to pound them.

He was thinking about coming out last year but decided to stay in school for his senior year.  It proved to be a mistake because  it cost him since he got hurt.

This was the 104th pick which the Eagles used to grab this young cornerback.

Lindley ran a 4.5 and a 4.51 forty yard dash at his Pro Day.

I believe the Birds tried to get a cornerback with some size to combat the big and physical wide receivers in the NFC East.

Of course the fans do not have the opportunity to see draft picks. With that bring said it should looks like the Eagles did allot of reaching during the draft. There were several players who projected higher and they continued to do it their way and seemed to reach on several picks. I hope they know what they are doing but it sure doesn’t look that way

Dtime – Sounds like you put a lot of stock into the projections that the media makes. Ok. But is it possible that the Media thinks differently about players than scouts and FO people that are employed by NFL teams?

Schiller stop trying to defend everything the eagles do. Damn dude let people voice their opinion without having schmuck apologists try to tell them they are wrong. Just like you ha e your opinion so does everyone else and u need to stop trying g to correct people just because they don’t agree with everything the eagles do. One thing is for sure that everyone does hope these draft picks work out but that doesn’t mean that right now we think they will. We are all hoping that we are wrong if we don’t like the picks. I surely don’t want to be right if I don’t like what they did but I sure am entitled to my opinion whether you like it or not. Everyone is entitled to feel how they feel. Period. Stop trying to make sense out of everything and let people vent because they will get over it eventually.

“National Football Post: A technically raw corner who struggles when asked to turn and run down the field. Isn’t real physical in any area of the game and really struggled at this year’s Senior Bowl.”

I really hope missing out on one of the top 10 corners doesn’t come back to bite us in the ass.

I’m going to go on record saying I don’t like this kid. Trevard Lindley is definitely my least favorite pick of this draft. It would be great if I’m wrong. I think we’re going to see Marlin Jackson, Macho, or Allen at CB this year.

Thank you, JBisC. That is very scary. I’d like to know what happened with the Eagles and this particular draft choice.

Wow,
Add another soft-tackling CB to the roster in addtion to Samuel, Hobbs & Hanson already..
Who is going to tackle and punish the Cowboys WR’s Austin,Crayton and now Bryant on those quick slants
Who is going to tackle the Giants S Smith,H Nicks and R Barden on those quick slants
Who is going to tackle the Redksins WR’s Thomas,Kelly and possibly TO when they sign him this summer.. This will get ugly…

Paulman, while I stand by my comment that Lindley looks weak to me, he did have 92 solo tackles in his first two seasons in college….

Scouts Notebook.com – “Veteran SEC corner had a down season in 2009. Probably should have come out after his Junior year. Missed some action this season and didn’t look as good. Solid cover guy. Lindley has good feet, but is a little stiff in the hips. He has great ball skills. Picked off 10 career passes and broke up 43. Had a ton of solo tackles in his first 2 seasons (92). Ran 4.50 at his Pro Day.

Went to the Senior Bowl. Looked okay. Played the same as he did during the year…up and down.

Probably a late round pick. “

Sounds like he has peaked to me.. I want a up and comer at CB with a 3rd/4th Round pick which is a area of definitie need for the Eagles.. Not some wishy-washy player coming off injuries. I think he’s listed at 5’10 1/2″ and 187 lbs…. and ran 4.5 time in the 40.. not fast, not very big and and so-so prodcution… a 5th/6th Rdound Pick I can see, with the #105th pick, yuo have to do better than this
if you want to compete with Cowboys,Giants in your own division,,,

Sounds like he peaked? Are you serious with that comment? The kid is 21 years old I’m pretty confident that he didn’t peak. Haha.

Does anyone really know anything about this kid? Other than he was a 4th round pick?

His speed doesn’t worry me. 4.53 is quick enough to play press coverage. (BTW, Joe Haden ran a 4.57) He’s got the size to play CB (he’s bigger than Joe Haden, Kyle Wilson, Kareem Jackson & Devin McCourty) so his size is fine.

So Paul Mancini, where exactly do you get the “not fast, not big” arguement?

Everyone needs to just stop all the speculation about what you think you know about a draft prospect. Unless you are sitting there breaking down film and evaluating talent then you don’t know shit. I have no problem if you say…i think this kid is going to stink…or i think this kid is going to be great. But please stop acting like you know how to scout football talent with dumbass remarks about his speed and size and draft spot.
