Madson to the DL with broken toe

According to Todd Zolecki on Twitter, the Philadelphia Phillies have placed pitcher Ryan Madson on the 15-day disabled list with a busted toe. This is just perfect timing since Brad Lidge was just activated.

“Ryan Madson placed on the 15-day DL with a broken right great toe. LHP Antonio Bastardo recalled from Triple-A,” Zolecki tweets.

I was actually thinking that maybe – just maybe – the Phillies could get their disaster of a bullpen in better working order with Lidge coming back and Madson moving back to his natural setup role. Nope.

I’m not sure about anyone else thinks, but I’m not seeing a championship bullpen. One of the main reasons the Phils took the World Series in 2008 was because their bullpen was filthy. They really only needed one plan: Get past your opponents’ starter and into their bullpen. At that point, I’ll take the Phillies lineup against your bullpen versus your lineup against the Phils’ bullpen.

Well, the Phillies still have the lineup, but this bullpen is very leaky. Never thought I’d say this, but I miss Chan Ho Park.

Pretty conveinient DL stint for as much as he has struggled the last 2 weeks,
I think he needs some time off and clear he’s head and to come back from his injured toe.
The bullpen needs him as a 7th/8th set-up man if they are going to contend and a World Series run
They need to add at least 1 more proven late inning reliever or closer or this current Bullpen will prevent the Phillies from getting back to the World Series (which I have stated since Febuary)
I have not liked the make-up of this bullpen since Off-Season/Febuary

We need Madson and Romero at their best, Followed by Lidge at his best. Truly though other than Halliday we need lots of improvement out of all our pitching.

Wishful thinking RegalEagle I think..
They need to make some moves now to get a proven reliever and a tough LHP reliever for those last game situations or they could possibly miss the payoffs entirely let alone legitimately compete for a
World Series. The Cardinals,SF Giants, have the best pitching depth by far in the NL and the Mets,Cubs,Rockies,Dodgers,Brewers and even the Reds are all starting to play better..
It’s still early in the Season and they have had lots of injuries (Blanton,HApp,Romero,Lidge,Rollins,Polanco and now Madson) but they need to address this bullpen now and go out and acquire a proven player…
