Sixers begin negotiations with Collins

A league source tells the Philadelphia Daily News that the 76ers have begun contract talks with former NBA head coach Doug Collins. Collins hasn’t coached in the NBA since 2003 and is currently an analyst for TNT.

Sixers GM Ed Stefanski was at the NBA Draft lottery last night and talked about possibly doing a second round of interviews.

“If there’s a second round (of interviews), it will be quicker, it will be in a timely fashion,” Stefanski said. “There are two options: Bring some people back for a second interview or just go towards the candidate we feel most comfortable with.”

Well, according to the Daily News‘ source, it seems that they are comfortable with Collins and would like him to be their next head coach.

As far as I’m concerned, I’m not sure why Stefanski is allowed to have a say in who coaches the team. I’m not sure what he’s done to make this a better team and he already took a big swing and miss when he hired Eddie Jordan. Jordan has a system based on passing and shooting so I’m not sure whose roster Stefanski was looking at when he hired him.

Another sign that the sixers are content with mediocrity.
