Michael Vick Is Getting Plenty Of Reps During OTA Workouts

Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg are spending a lot of time on Michael Vick in practice if as according to a number of experts who cover the team, they’re thinking about trading him.

He’s getting as many reps as Kevin Kolb.¬† Most of the times, the starter gets most of the reps.

The Eagles started the practice today working on gadget plays like reverses, double reverse, throw back passes and the “Wildcat” formation.¬† Vick was getting most of the reps during this period.¬† Expect the Eagles to expand the “Wildcat” offense this year.

As you would expect, the left-handed Vick likes to roll to his left and Marty Mornhinweg has been making it a point to call plays which allows Vick to roll that way.

On one of the roll outs today, Vick rolled to his left and let the ball go late, then safety Quintin Demps went up and took the ball away from the receivers.

Vick dropped in the pocket one time today, felt some pressure from defensive tackle Trevor Laws then shook him as Laws reached to grab him.  Vick exploded out of the backfield shook one of the linebackers while turning on the turbos as he flew by him.

The explosion generated some excitement on the sidelines because it made me think of that time Vick took off on the Vikings and left their defensive grabbing fumes on the way to the end zone.

He’s getting better at making the intermediate throws in the offense.¬† Vick got the ball to Hank Baskett and Jason Avant a few times on those short to intermediate routes.

Vick made a nice throw to Jeremy Maclin seam route.  It was a nice five step drop and he let the ball go on time and hit Maclin on the run.

He also had a few throws that were late, indecisive and off the mark.

He started out the passing part of practice today, taking the short throws to the running backs.  As practice went on he started getting the ball downfield to his tight ends and wide receivers.

This is the difference right now between Kolb and Vick.  Kolb throws the ball downfield more because he more confident of his reads.  Vick is more apt to check it down or pull it down and take off.

Now, this is reason for optimism. Give this former pro bowler with credentials his respect and past kolb the clipboard.

OMG….Vick threw a pick to Demps…does that mean he will be carrying a clipboard??

“He also had a few throws that were late, indecisive and off the mark”

These are OTA’s people. It is nice to get reports, but to report on most every throw like it is an actual game is a bit over the top.

I am glad to hear that they are tailoring our playcalling to personnel. This is a complaint that I have always had with AR. I felt that he always did this whenever McNabb was injured, but that his playcalling with McNabb always tried to get “too cute”. If Vick is going to be a member of this team, then it is a great idea to develop plays that exploit his strengths as an athelete.

Is everyone thinking what I’m thinking (except for Songs of course)
Maybe Vick can play the CB position and probably will be getting some reps there…

Green-it’s great to see the Offensive playcalling in camp tailored to the strengths of the personnell, I just hope it translates as well on gameday.

i think we just need to use both..when a defense is set to go against a right handed QB..the QB pressure packages are different..so if we can switch during the game, there packages would have to be reveresed and reversed correctly..could cause lotsnof confusion for opposing Ds…plus if Kolb comes out and really sucks this year..believe we will have controversy on our hands …i say keep 7…and ball out this year
