Kevin Kolb And Pass Offense Finish Strong In OTA’s

There are a lot of things written and talked about concerning the Eagles, but the most important story about the Eagles is the development of young quarterback Kevin Kolb.

The trade of Donovan McNabb won’t be decided by the play of McNabb in Washington or the play of rookie safety Nate Allen who was drafted with the Eagles second round pick.

It will ultimately be decided by the play of Kolb.  If he turns out to be a great quarterback, no one will care that the Eagles traded McNabb or what they got for him.  The same is true if he doesn’t pan out.

It’s all about Kolb, his immediate play and his development.

As I have written here in early post, he struggled in the immediate camp after the draft and he wasn’t consistent in the rookie OTA’s, but he got into a rhythm during the recent OTA’s which involved the entire team and the third-year quarterback was impressive.

At times, he looked a machine back there in his three, five and seven step drops with the ball coming out there on the money.  He and his receivers got it going at times and looked like a good watch in operation.  They were connecting play after play.

Kolb was doing what the Eagles front office predicted which is hit his receivers in stride, so that they can catch the football and do something with it after it hits their hands.  He was especially impressive with those ten to twenty-yard throws.

He loves to work the middle of the field at short, intermediate and deep distances.  I would say this is the strength of his game at the moment.   You’re going to see a lot of completions over the middle to tight end Brent Celek and the wide receivers.

This young passer has shown time after time that he can get the ball to his receivers in some very tight areas.  This will be a tremendous asset as long as he doesn’t take it too far.

His short and compact throwing motion will serve him well.¬† I know I’ve said it before but his passing motion makes me think of Chase Utley’s hitting stroke, short and compact with no wasted motion.

Kolb was also effective throwing ball on short out routes and those intermediate outs.  He can’t be careless with those outside throws because he doesn’t have monster arm strength.  Those outs routes take a while to get there and if picked off turn into easy touchdowns for the defense.

If Kolb can stay away from interceptions he should have a good year.  This will mean not turning into Brett Favre when it comes to attempting too many tough throws.  Having confidence in his throwing ability is one thing but throwing the ball up for grabs in another.

The new Eagles starting quarterback also showed he is able to get the ball deep to DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, but he  lets it go earlier than McNabb did.

Many times he throws it before the receivers have created separation from the defender, so it will be vital that he makes good decisions and is careful about when to throw it and when not to throw it.  Throwing the ball early is great when the passes are completed but it means taking more chances and being more vulnerable to throwing interceptions.

This young man has the ability to be a good quarterback but it’s all going to come down to whether he can stay away from the harmful and costly interceptions.  He will have great throws for big plays and touchdowns but he must stay away from the picks.

I also doesn’t want to see him trying to be Superman with the scrambling because he’s not going to be running away from anybody in the NFL.¬† He must take what’s there, then throw the ball away.

Eagles victories for 2010.

Lions,Bears,Jaguars, Texans,Titans, Giants, Redskins Twice,49ers for 9 wins
But Eagles still do not make the playoffs and lose the tie-breakers to the Falcons/Packers who slide in as Wild-Card Teams.
Eagles then after the Season trade D-Jax to Raiders for 2nd and 4th Rd picks in 2012, since there will be no football in 2011 with Owners/Players lockout.. and fire DL Coach R Segrest and DC S McDermott
naming Coach D Jauron as the new Defensive Coordinator..and release the following players
J Parker,Q Mickell,J Jackson, H Baskett & M Bell
On a side note, they also have new uniforms for the Cheerleading team

Paulman hates Desean Jackson. Paulman hates moderation and sense and self editing. I regret responding directly to him on many occasions as he really should be unilaterally ignored.

For the record Schiller
I like Desean Jackson and think he’s one of the most exciting players in the entire NFL..
I just don’t think he will play out his Rookie Contract for the Eagles though, He and Agent Rosenhaus will simply ask for too much $$$ than the Eagles are willing to pay, that the Eagles will have to trade him away…
Where’s the hate your sensing Schiller…just because you don’t agree or think the D-Jax should be an Eagle for life… I wish so to, but I just believe that it won’t happen for economic reasons…

Paul – In case you haven’t noticed, I hate negative speculation. You have reiterated your opinion several times now and that’s annoying. Just because we haven’t responded to it – doesn’t mean we haven’t read it. Most likely if we ignore you it’s cause we think you’re crazy – you have admittedly made up crazy shit just for fun on here many times. But to your theory – Drew and DJax have stated the exact opposite. And there’s no evidence on your side of the argument. Where’s the leverage for Drew and Djax, and how would the TO method work? It backfired miserably for Drew last time, TO too. So why would he try it again? You’re comfortable dwelling upon weakly based, far-fetched, negative long term predictions for the Eagles – see Stew Bradley most recently – which should make any Eagles fan angry and upset. You’re in your element with BS and you’re alone in that.

The truth is we as fans don’t know anything about the future of the NFL with the looming lockout in 2011 (I hope it doesn’t happen). Who knows what the new CBA rules will be concerning players and owners and contracts by then. Right now, this year, DJax is an Eagle and this year is all we got right now. I’m not remotely thinking beyond the 2010 season until it’s over. Who knows, maybe we set the NFL world on fire and surprise everyone, maybe we flame out and fail epicly, or are 8-8 average. What ever we put on the field this season I’ll be sitting on my couch with the kids cheering for our favorite team.

Schiller in you criticism of PM you use the word we and any eagle fan as if you are the voice of the Eagles and you use the word hate. You are as negative as any poster in you attempt to sensure people whom you think don’t fawn over the Eagles as much as you do. In you several attempts to say their drafting is no worse than any other NFL team you use bogus generalities and innacurate percentages, so back off. There are at least 10 teams who draft better and the Eagles fail on 55 to 60 % of their picks.
Look it up bozo.

Big – I hear you. I never said or meant to imply that I represent all Eagles fans or that I’m the voice. I’m not the only one who’s been critical of Paul recently (though I admit that I have been doing it a lot, he’s been on my nerves with the Bradley rumor and Jackson holdout/raiders trade speculation). Sorry if it came off that way. I never intended to sensor anyone, I don’t have that power, just voicing my opinion. As for the drafting conversation – ok, challenge my statements, but if you’re gonna call me out on my facts as being bogus estimates, then site yours. Name the ~10 teams you say draft better, and tell us where you get the 55-60%. Where did you ‘look it up’?

Basically, If Schiller doesn’t agree or like what I post,
than I am an Idiot, an Eagle Hater and the Anti-Christ…
I enjoy many of your posts Schiller, but you have to remember that a lot of others or just here visiting on
occasion or are not as passionate as your are or maybe are still young and not real knowledegeable about the Eagles history or the NFL in genreal, so you need to tone it down with you either with us or against type of attitude you sometimes come across as.. We are all fans or we wouldn’t be on here,
I know throw a lot of crap up on the wall, some are well thought-out and other times are to provoke or
to poke fun at a topic/situation … but I don’t get personal or at least try my best not to…
So keep up your support of the Eagles and this web-site for you bring up many good ideas/thoughts

Paulman, I apologize for hurting your feelings again and I admit that my sarcasm and hyperbole is probably too much. But you just admitted, again, that you ‘throw a lot of crap on the wall. See, that’s a good metaphor. If you were in a public place, and some guy was throwing crap on the wall, would you be like. Oh, what’s up guy. Ha, that’s funny? No, you’d be like – dude, wtf, who throws crap on the wall. Honestly? See, especially if you’re claiming that some people might not be as familiar with/knowledgeable about the NFL or the Eagles. Then you throw your crap, and you don’t see how especially for people who don’t know much, that your crap, which you present as real info with backup information that you make up (more crap) – you don’t see how that can be harmful? If ‘throwing crap on the wall’ was an expression that meant anything good, it wouldn’t reference human feces and public space. Again man, I’m not trying to ‘make it personal’ and attack you the person. It’s just that crap is crap. Not a harmless joke. Many of us use sarcasm and extremes sometimes for effect, both me and my biggest opposites on this site, but you’re the only one that ‘throws crap on the wall’ disguised as regular posts. Do you see the difference?

Reidsucks, other than your screenname, this article was about Kevin Kolb, and then we were talking about other posters, and some other NFL teams.
