Kyle Kendrick demoted to Triple-A

The Philadelphia Phillies have optioned starter Kyle Kendrick to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after he gave up seven runs in five innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. The team has called up Andrew Carpenter, but it’s not known right now if he’ll be taking Kendrick’s next scheduled start, which would be Saturday against the Colorado Rockies.

It’s easy to pile on Kendrick, but he really hasn’t been that bad this year. He wasn’t even supposed to be a starter this year, but injuries forced him into the rotation. I think I might have preferred to have seen him sent to the bullpen since he really can’t be much worse than some of the garbage that’s in there.

Kendrick is 5-4 with a 4.82 ERA this year over the course of 20 games. He’s shown some ability at times and has had some really nice games. But obviously, the Phillies just don’t think it’s in their best interests to have him in the rotation right now.

I’d like to see JA Happ make a comeback to the rotation, but he’s not up in the majors for a reason. He’s still working himself back and hasn’t been very good.

This Pitching is in a mess.
Halladay has been hit often and very hard the last 5-6 weeks (outside of “Perfect game”)
Hamels has pitched very well for most of the year…Moyer has pitched well on occasion but it 47 years old and also has been shelled many times.. Blanton is hanging pitches left and right.
Contreras,Durbin and Romero have pitched pretty well from the Bullpen when used in their proper roles, Herndon,Baez have been flat out terrible and Lidge and Madson too inconsistent to close out games with any consistentcy..
Happ most likley will not return until Sept (once the Phils are out of Playoff contention)
his Velocity is way down to the mid-upper 80’s which won’t fly in the big leagues.. I actually think they may just shut him down for the reaminder of the season and get him ready for 2011 Season
But this Phils Pitching Staff moving forward has a lot holes and question marks on it…
What does the Rotation and Bullpen look like for 2011
Halladay,Hamels,Blanton for sure in the Starter Rotation.. then what..
Relief pitchers of Durbin,Romero,Madson,Lidge are all under contract . does this excite anyone..

well if they hire roseman and reid they will rebuild beautifully
they’d start by trading halladay to mets
next just flat out cut jroll he’s the longest tenured phillie so he has to go he’s also been a classy athlete here so no love just flat out cut em
ryan howard will get traded to heckerts team prob like cle indians for there is clearly an adequate 2nd round pick we drafted who was projected 4th rounder to take his place
clearly this is philadelphia so chase will just stay unless he wants to leave he’s sacred so options are his
