Victorino has oblique strain, Rollins to miss a few days

The good news is that your Philadelphia Phillies have now won six straight games. The good news is that Atlanta Braves lost yet again this evening. The good news is that the once floundering Phillies are just 3.5 games back in the NL East with a ton of time left.

And then there is the bad news. The Phillies can’t seem to keep everyone healthy and in the lineup. We noted before that SS Jimmy Rollins was diagnosed with a foot contusion and might miss some time. Luckily, David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News says that Rollins will sit for a few days and won’t go to the DL.

Now, Shane Victorino is dealing with an oblique strain, according to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“Victorino has a left oblique strain. Further evaluated tomorrow,” Gelb tweets.

Rotoworld says that we shouldn’t be surprised if he ends up on the DL, and I agree.

And as Gelb correctly points out (before he knew that it was an oblique strain), that would mean that Jayson Werth ain’t going nowhere (he didn’t use the poor grammar that I just did) and Dom Brown would probably come up.

“If Victorino is hurt badly (and that’s a big if, we don’t know yet), it could change everything. Werth definitely stays. Brown comes up,” he tweets.

The bright side to this lackluster Phillies season was that the team was supposed to be getting healthier and would be poised for a run. Still, six wins in a row with a ton of games left is a good sign. And this team has enough talent where other guys can pick up the slack.

But man….can we stop with the injuries please?

Now’s the time to bring Brown up… another big bat in the lineup for the run to 1st place.

I stand by my statement from Feb/March that the Phillies Bullpen will be the reason they do not
make the 2010 Playoffs.. They cannot close out games consistently against the good teams.
