Reid: Impressed With Graham, Says April Is the Best, Points Out Competition At WR

Eagles head coach Andy Reid talked to the media today after he spent some time signing autographs for the soldiers who attended practice.¬† I always like “military day out here because the players are very respectful of the soldiers and the soldiers respond to that.

Michael Vick was the player who was mobbed.¬† It figures since he’s the guy with the biggest name nationally on the football team.¬† I’m told the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force were all represented.

Juqua Parker is the lone Eagle over 30 years of age, so he had the morning practice off.¬† The trouble with getting the practice off is, the Eagles probably dwell on the fact that you’re over 30 years of age.

I agree wholeheartedly with Andy Reid when he talked about Brandon Graham’s explosiveness in his lower body.¬† Graham is built like he could being squats of 600 pounds.¬† Reid says Graham does as good of a job against the run as he does against the pass.

I wouldn’t go that far but I do like the fact that he’s active and doesn’t stay blocked on run plays even if he’s blocked initially.¬† This kid plays with some serious energy.

Reid says his special teams coach Bobby April is the best in the business.¬† I like the way this guy coaches with some energy.¬† He’s got some good football players with Tracy White back and Kelley Washington added.

Guard Stacey Andrews strained his shoulder, so he’s sidelined right now but I wasn’t impressed with him before he got hurt.¬† He doesn’t get any explosion out of his stance.¬† He can pass block but as a run blocker he’s mediocre.

I don’t like what the Eagles have inside with Nick Cole and Andrews playing side by side.

Big Red talked about how fierce the competition was for the final wide receiver spots between Riley Cooper, Hank Baskett and Kelley Washington.  I think Cooper has already secured a spot on the roster.  The true battle is between Baskett and Washington.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is at the afternoon practice today and he’ll have a sit down one-on-one conversation with Michael Vick.¬† They’re expected to go over Vick plans of rehabilitation going forward.

Why did the troops surround Vick? Even they know the real star is Michael Vick but yet the philly media insist on hyping kolb for absolutely no reason.

I wonder why?

Probably just getting a last glimpse since this will be Vick’s final camp in Bethlehem,
In fact, I bet he is entirely out of the NFL by 2012 season

Some of you are hyping Vick a whole lot, in reality at this point Vick is more unproven than Kolb. What has Vick Done lately? He wasn’t showing pin point accuracy last year or his speed. All we are hearing is that his speed is back and his accuracy is still questionable. Vick at one point was a pro bowl caliber player but so was Marc Bulger. We will see both of their still sets once pre-season games get underway, until then it is a mute point because not one person on this thread has any clue.
I agree with Paulman too, i don’t see the birds resigning him and he didn’t generate a whole lot of trade buzz, but we will see.

To PW & Songs,
I don’t hate anyone, life is way too short for that..
I actually am a McNabb Fan but his time has come and gone and it was time for him and the team to move on
I never particular cared for AI for he was not a team player, lack of leadership and too much of “do your own thing” tpe of player which I do not like to see in “team sports”
I also thought M Vick was not a good enough NFL QB to last long due to his lack of accuracay and lack of being able to read coverages which he has publicy stated that he didn’t work hard enough on while he was younger in Atlanta, He’s just a great athlete who is playing the QB position but not a true QB in my eyes..
It seems every time someone disagrees with you two, that all of a sudden, they are racisits or haters, I think you boys need to look in the mirror once in a while …

Paul…it seems you ignored the point in the 1st comment. The fans recognize Vick’s star power therefore ignored Kolb. Yet the Media does the reverse and Kolb have a greater chance in failing than coming anywhere near Vick’s proven status and accomplishments in this league. You think Kolb can single handedly put a team on his back and guide them to the NFC championship game? Don’t give me the garbage line…”nobody knows”. We all know Kolb can’t and this season will prove he’s just another “bright hope”. He’s not Peyton, He’s not Rothlisberger , He’s definately not Brady and those who throw out those names as an example of what kolb can become knows nothing at all. He’s ot even Philips , or Aaron Rogers..hell ..copy this and remember…..Kolb will not last another 4 years on his team and when it happens I want to hear the spin machine explain it away.

Vick is no longer a proven commodity, look what he did when given the chance last year. Made a nice cut against the bears up the middle and caught form behind. Made a nice throw to Maclin (who did the rest) against the Cowboys, thats about it. Both are unproven, the nobody knows is not a garbage line, in reality, nobody actually knows how good Kolb will be. Please do not bring race into a debate about football, its pathetic and demonstrates and complete lack of confidence toward your point. Lets keep this solely on football.

we must bring in race when it’s relevant. Is Kolb better than Mcnabb right now? NO!

Did Kolb prove when he was thrown in that he can single handedly guide a team anywhere compared to when Vick first came into the league?

Vick is a proven commodity and if they would just play him instead of yanking him in and out the fans would know he’s the real deal. Give him the shot you giving kolb then you’ll see but they are afraid for if they let Vick loose it may shatter kolb’s chances. If they would have opened a competition for the best man from the beginning, no one here would be crying race, but they didn’t which is unequal. Kolb is not proven therefore should have had to work instead of being handed the job.

they see both of them in practice every single day, there is your competition. Andy Reid could be on the hot seat and he isn’t going risk losing when he has an opportunity to win. Vick is no longer a proven commodity he was out of the game for two years and has done nothing to prove he still has the same amazing athletic ability. that is a fact.
Kolb being better than McNabb has nothing to do with race. McNabb is an aging player and where the state of the team is right now with an influx of young talent it is a wise football decision to surround them with a young QB to grow with and establish a strong nucleus of players. We weren’t getting it done with McNabb so lets mix it up and try something new, nothing to do with race so just leave it alone.

ok KTDawk…if we don’t get it done with Kolb then what?

what’s the argument if kolb turns out to be butt? Then would you admit it was wrong getting rid of a franchise quarteback in his prime?

No, i will still think it was the right decision b/c McNabb was gone after this season anyway and we got something for him. I am a huge McNabb fan and hope he does well but in the best interest of the eagles they did the right thing.

How is it in the best interest of the Eagles downgrading at the QB position?

I’m at a lost…Kolb is not better than Mcnabb right now, so how is that beter for the Eagles right now?

I never post and generally laugh at the gibberish that comes from paulman’s posts. But, to see people imply his opinions are based on race is just ridiculous. I cannot understand how G would even tolerate 2 people whose racial biases ooze out of their own posts actually making such statements about a long time contributor.

Lets face facts, the eagles wont say it, especially in times when the Phillies are making headlines, but they are rebuilding. The team, despite its record, was not very good at all last year. How many playoff teams did they actually beat?

The team decided to get young, hence only one player left over 30. They decided to switch quarterbacks. Will it work? Time will tell. But this team is not winning a superbowl this year. It was time to move on. Give the young kid a chance andmove the older guy who was not poised to win anything anyhow. they want to see what may be, rather than what never will be…

and Michael Vick…he simply is not the answer at all…this is not madden football and quite honestly he was really never a good qb. His numbers were always terrible. Sure, he’ll bring you back against prevent defenses, and he’ll make some big plays, but does that make up for all the missed passes and misreads, that put you in the situation anyhow? And, btw, those eagles fans who BLINDLY can’t stand Vick, thats not because of his race, Its because he is a felon. I just wonder why some people BLINDLY love him?

They get rid of Probowl Mcnabb without ever giving him any real weapons, Hand the reigns over to an AR-unknown, have a proven Probowler and game changer in Vick, doesnt hold an open competition for starting quarterback; yet we’re suppose to sit here through another couple years of “I’ll put guys in a better position to win ball games crap”. look…I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, I’m not totally against Kolb – He may be the next best thing for the eagles, but If he is taking sacks and not getting out the pocket even with time provided by our O-line, throwing int and looking like another Hoying and what not, sit his a – – on the bench, and put Vick in. By the way, Elway was in his prime when Shannahan won SB’s with him. I don’t really to talk about players that are no longer here(and on a damn rival’s team), but I do believe we made have made a big mistake in getting rid of him when he started to develop a rapport with our wideouts and backs. Then we give him to Shannahan (of all people) within our division – a coach who knows how to win games with a proven-primed QB. I hope AR has got a plan for this one.

McNabb’s career passer rating is 86, without his superior mobility anymore that is pretty run of the mill if you ask me, which no longer makes him in his prime.

Plus McNabb did have “Thrash,Pinkston and LJ Smith” as weapons in his Prime and his fault he didn’t lead them to the promise land…

Paul….you have lost any credibility with that last comment…It’s fans like you this organization loves.

underacheiving organization for fans who are use to not winning anything. My Father was a cowboys fan and he told me nearly 20 years ago that I was wasting my time with this team. He said Cunningham was the best thing to happen to the Eagles and if he was with another team in his prime he would have multiple superbowls. I stayed with them through it all and now the cycle continues. I know most people don’t want to say it but the truth is the best quarterbacks to strap on an Eagles helmet were Randall Cunningham and Donovan Mcnabb….and they so happened to be black and If these were John Elway and Jim Kelly they both would have retired as Eagles. Elway is a perfect parallel of Mcnabbs career and the only difference is the Broncos appreciated him enough to give him talent to win at the very end of his career. So, when I see the same career but the only differences is team and race…I must examine team and race. Donovan should have had the same amount of time as Elway to bring this team a Superbowl.

Songs— Most people dont want to say it? What world do you live in? Two years ago the eagles fans voted MCnabb as its all time best quarterback. it wasnt even close in the votes. Apparently most people already said it. You just refuse to believe they did. Maybe its time to examine yourself instead.

Cunningham was great, but he had no coaching, nor did he have any desire to work on the mental aspect/studying of the game. He never learned to read the defense in his career! When he was in Minnesota, Brian Billick used to have Randall get to the line early, read the entire defense for him and up to the last 3 seconds told him where to pass it. this is a fact! They actually changed the helmet to mic rules the following year because of this. Once they changed the rules, he struggled and got replaced. But your right, had he not been black, Randall would have retired here. Had he been white, then our black coach RAY RHODES would not have benched him for our black 2nd stringer Rodney PEETE.

Seriously, you should start looking at things with an open mind, rather than like that of a bigot. You’ll be a much happier person with a lot less excuses!

p.s.- Paul was joking. THe fact that yuu did not realize that is scary!

Cunningham had no coaching but is still the 2nd best QB in Eagles history. What does tha say about the quarterbacks that came before him that had coaching?

Cunningham numbers were even better than Jaws who is recognozed for his football prowess.

This alone destroys the point of your last comment.
