Michael Vick: “I can win in any offense, in any league…. that’s all I’ve done in my career”

Nearly each day the Eagles spend at training camp, Michael Vick does something that makes your jaw drop.  He’s either outrunning a blitzing cornerback, faking a linebacker out of his shoes, throwing a lazer on aor avoiding the rush and zipping a bomb 60-yard downfield.

Vick has become quite adept at reading the defensive coverages, then quickly making the short or intermediate throw to the receivers.  But he has thrown his share of interceptions and you can see him struggling to read the defense and get the ball out of his hands at times. He’s become more comfortable in the offense and he’s not as quick to pull the ball down.  But the question remains could he run this offense and win consistently.

The jury is still out on that, but he doesn’t doubt himself in the least.  When asked what are his limitations are in this offense Vick replied, “I feel like a can do it all.  Honestly, I feel like I can do it all.”

Despite that belief , he still feels he has room for improvement.  “You always can do better, Vick told me after practice earlier in the week.  “As a quarterback you’ll never fully understand the game of football.  and you’ll always be learning everyday.”

“It’s a lot of things I do well and at lot of things that I don’t do well. Just got to continue to improve my accuracy. my footwork, my balance when I throw. That’s a big problem right now, so I’m working on that, footwork, balance, just throwing and being in the proper position.”

When I asked him about his scrambling ability, Vick talked about his amazing speed.  “When in doubt or in trouble if I have to scramble or I’ve got to move if the protection is not right, that’s when you’ve got to use your legs.  I’ve got the turbos, that’s just an extra asset, that’s a great asset to have.  But other than that I’m trusting the guys around me to make plays.”

Vick let it be known that he had no problem not being a classic pocket passer and he described his mindset as a scrambler.  “Don’t get me wrong I’m going to use my legs.  I’m going to use my legs regardless.  I know guys want to be pocket passers.  I’m going to play within the system.  I’m going to have fun, guys are going to get the ball.  But, I can also help a team win by being mobile, so that’s what it’s about.”

He was insulted when Bob Grotz of the Delaware County Times asked him whether he thought he could win games if the Eagles were to turn to him.  “Can I win games?  I can’t believe you asked me that, you know what I’m going to say.  To answer your question without a doubt.  I can win in any offense in any league.  Whether it’s Arena, Canadian, NFL that’s all I’ve done my whole career.”

“(I could win) also in the NBA, too. Me,  LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh would make an escellent team right now.  I’m the missing piece to the puzzle.”

Say what you want about Vick, but you can’t deny his resume of being a former Pro Bowl quarterback who took his team to the NFC Championship game.  Remember that most of the players on the Eagles team grew watching and idolizing Vick.  If Kolb stumbles at the start of or during the season, don’t be surprised if they see Vick as a solution.

Tomorrow night we will get our first look at the new and improved Michael Vick and he’s got his speed back and a much better knowledge of the offense.  Keep an eye on the game when Vick takes over at quarterback in the second quarter tomorrow night.  He’s sure to do something that gets your attention.

Wish him and the rest of the offense well this week vs the Jags..
I expect Vick to have a nice game with a couple of big plays throwing and running…

Sounds like the seeds of a QB controversy to me. It somewhat interesting, even if totally predictable, that the Philly media has elected to not get the controversy machine rolling yet.

butch, perhaps the reason the media hasn’t gotten the controversy machine rolling yet is that there’s no controversy. The only people who actually think Vick has anywhere close to an equal shot of being the starting QB for the team this year, barring injury of course, are (apparently) you, PW and Songs. Anybody who knows anything knows that Andy Reid and Marty are going to let Kolb be the QB for at least this season, and in all reality, the next 10 years. Vick has no shot at winning the job, even if Kolb falters during the season – because Kolb is their golden boy QB prospect, who they’ve groomed, and handed the reigns to. They expect him to have ‘ups and downs’ – which implies that they’ll stick with him through the ‘downs’. So forget about vick starting. And the ‘controversy’ – it doesn’t exist because it can’t.

I think the only Controversy going on here is who gets to sleep in the top bunk (PW or Songs)….

I can’t wait to see Vick open up on the #2 D of the Jags. I do however agree w/ Shiller. Kolb is our QB and will be good or bad. We stuck w/ McNabb through good and bad games/seasons so there’s no reason not to think Kolb will not get the same chance. Vick is our #2 and will be a valuable asset to our team this year and who knows after that. But Kolb is the Captian of this ship now like it or not.

Well – yeah, but all that put aside, I love Vick’s comments! That’s the kind of swagger we want out stud athelete # 2 to have – both for the plays he’s put in on and if he needs to start for Kolb (injury situation). I love that kind of attitude from Vick.

Schill-agreed, it’s his confidence coming out in him that he’s had since before he was an Eagle. He knows he’s good, we know he’s good and I can’t think of a team that has a better #2 option right now than us.

For all the people at Kolb’s neck, ready for Vick to replace him…Please read:

“But he (Vick) has thrown his share of interceptions and you can see him struggling to read the defense and get the ball out of his hands at times.”

Now, read it again…

Well said G. “If Kolb stumbles at the start of or during the season, don’t be surprised if they see Vick as a solution”. # 5 was pulled when he stumbled playing the Ravens and he was pulled. I believe if given the chance, Vick and his turbos would carry us through.

I love the confidence of this Michael Vick as a leader and credentials as an elite presence in the NFL. While I would not let him watch my pups he can get the keys to the car runnng a pro NFL team..Like Mcnabb he came to the league and his team immediately won football games. He’s been disrespeced sitting behind an unproven comodity but hopefully they will not waste the season on Kolb and yank him if he’s stinks after a few games.

I am hoping that Vick and Kolb do well, I would love to see Vick be the starter, however he isn’ t, so I will just have to wish Kolb the best. Also I don’t want to see either Vick or Kolb be injured, if Kolb doesn’t perform well, then give Vick a shot, I do not want to see Vick play bad enough to wish any harm oN Kolb, he is a good person and is willing to share with Vick, and that is good enough for me. I think the Eagles have put together a good team. GO EAGLES.
