With That Brutal 2nd-Half Schedule, Eagles Must Get Win Over Winless Niners

We all know the Eagles will likely be playing without both starting quarterback Michael Vick and running back LeSean McCoy in San Francisco this weekend.   McCoy hasn’t been ruled out of playing this week but it’s very unlikely he will play.
“Usually I’m a fast healer, so we’ll have to see,” Vick told Hall of Fame Bills defensive end Bruce Smith on his Monday night radio show in Virginia Beach, Virginia. “It won’t be more than two weeks, hopefully. Hopefully.”
If Vick misses two weeks, that puts him out of the both the Niners and Falcons games.
We also know that the first half of the Eagles season is the easy part.  After their bye week, they will be facing an extremely tough schedule.
The brutal second half schedule will include the following games: the Indianapolis Colts at home, the Redskins in D.C., the Giants at home, the Bears in Chicago, the Houston Texans at home, the Cowboys in Dallas, the Giants in New York, the Minnesota Vikings at home, then the Cowboys at home.
In light of that tough second half schedule, I believe the Eagles must beat the Niners this week or it will greatly reduce their chances of making the playoffs.  I thought the Skins game was one they had to have, now with that one gone, it’s put even more importance on this game against the Niners.
That’s why Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg have got to find a way to get their offense going against the Niners.  The defense will probably give up some yards on the ground but they won’t likely allow a lot of points, so the game will be their for the taking if the Birds can put some points on the board.
They’ve got to find a way to get it done this weekend.  I don’t see them beating the Falcons next week especially without Vick, but they should be able to find a way to beat a winless Niners team without him.
The fact that the Eagles haven’t made a move at the quarterback or running back positions, makes me believe that they feel Vick will be back to play against the Tennessee Titans.  If he’s not back against the Titans, the will have two additional weeks to get well because the Birds have their bye week after their game against Tennessee.
Former Eagle quarterback Jeff Garcia has been mentioned as a possible acquisition by the Birds but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.  According to Philly.com Garcia isn’t expecting to be an Eagle any time soon.
“There are teams out there that have needs, and it’s more than just Philadelphia,” Garcia said. “Until one of those teams calls and actually talks to my agent, or calls here and talks to [Omaha general manager] Rick Mueller, it’s just talk. I’ve been through this before, and my whole attitude has been not to get caught up in it. I’m going to focus on what I’m doing here and trying to get better and help this team to more wins.”

I agree with G that a Win this week is critical if this Eagle team is going to compete for a Playoff spot. With the injuries starting to mount and some lackluster play by some players, I think it’s time to tweak this roster even more..

Needs – a back-up RB, another WR, a back-up Safety and maybe another LB
Expendable thru a trade or even a flat out release – DT Patterson, LB Gaither, RB Bell

I also would like to see more OLB M Fokou & OLB Clayton playing in place of Ernie Sims who has been a huge disappointment and like many of us have stated since the summer that he is just nor a godo fit for this defense and has a real problem of diagnosing plays and reading keys off the Offense… (which is probably why Detroit got rid of him, he’s a great athlete but lacks the smarts to play effectively at the NFL level)

On a side note for PW and other Sixers fans,
I see Iggy is in mid-season form, with 0-7 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the foul line
with a total of 4 pts, 3 Rebounds, 3 Assists and 1 Steal and 3 personal fouls in 24 minutes of play..
The Team shot 27-72 from the field for a 37 % shooting so it appears that another long season ahead
My 6-7th Grade CYO team can shoot better than these overpaid guys

The Patriots were tired if his act and were not going to re-sign Moss after this season anyways.
The Vikings are desperate at WR is a clear indication to me that WR S Rice will most likley, not return this season after Hip Surgery and the other big-play threat in Percy HArvin has been a disappointment,
and continues to have migraines issues. Farve has no real outside, deep threat (unless anyone
thinks Baskett/Camarillo can make plays down the field, which is not their game)
The Vikings are going all out to Win this season in a pretty average NFC COnference, but if they don’t score some points and win some games, they will have a problem beating out Packers and even the Bears.. This will boost the Vikings and in particular Brett Farve which is what it’s all about…
On a side note, the Patriots receiving a 3rd Rd pick in return now gives them a total of 8 Draft Choices in
the first 4 Rounds. 2 picks each in the 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th Rounds out of the top 128 players..
The had a bunch the last 2 drafts also which is why they remain at the top of their game..Belicheck is reloading that team with very little drop off and even though I can’t stand the guy personally, you have to admire his coaching, roster manuevers,etc,etc.. talk about losing a Coaching Staff, there are lots of Coaches that have left the Patriots for other jobs (Crennell,Weis,McDaniels,Front office people like GM Polio who is rebuildng the Chiefs into a good team and the GM in Atlanta who name escapes me who is also rebuilding the Falcons the right way into a good team)

There is no doubt in my mind and I hate to even type this, that the Patriots and Bill Belicheck are
truly the “Gold Standard” of the NFL with teams like Baltimore,Pittsburgh,Indianapolis a step behind.
The Eagles are not even in the conversation

If they do get Moss, Favre would instantly have a boost in play and I already know there’s going to be a love fest with Moss returning to Minny. Favre wanted the Packers to get Moss a couple years ago before the Pats got him. So it will be interesting because now he has a true deep threat on the team and we know how Favre just likes throwing the ball up.

And yeah, they are the Gold standard. Our FO is trying their best to be like them. Along with the teams you mentioned we are the only team to remain competitive and reload the team WITHOUT winning a championship. Interesting.

Pman, I obviously see your point, but how many superbowls do they have once they weren’t allowed to cheat anymore? Just curious?

To be fair, since Paulman listed all of the coaches that New England has lost and stayed competitive, our list is pretty extensive as well, and I think it is one of the biggest factors that is now catching up with us – in prior years, Andy could lean on Jim Johnson, John Harbaugh, John Spagnuolo, and Brad Childress, and perhaps Tom Heckert wasn’t so bad at wheeling and dealing. I’m very disappointed in Bobby April, and Sean McDermott couldn’t replace Jim Johnson no matter what anyone says – perhaps the only man who could would be Dick LeBeau, and he’s not going anywhere any time soon.

Reid has done a good job of having those coaches on board, but they’ve all been such good leaders that… guess what? They’ve moved on to leadership positions.

The Eagles need this win, but honestly, if they’d just go out and lay an egg, we’d know what we have, and we could stop kidding ourselves that this team can go anywhere this year. I look forward to having this young team grow together, but this year is truly a re-build, not a re-load. And I tell you what, Kafka better stay warm on the sidelines, because he could be playing by halftime. Kevin Kolb, meet Patrick Willis.

Please heal fast Michael Vick.

Good points Thiklan,
When I look back, I am starting to believe that maybe coaches Harbaugh,Spags,Childress,Shurmur,Fraizer actually made AR out better than he is…and helped cover up the inefficiencie’s that we are now seeing like (poor special teams, poor tackling, too many penalities, and an overall lack of discpline and execution)

Exactly Paulman. I said the same thing a couple weeks ago. Maybe Reid wasn’t that great of a coach. He had great defensive players from Rhodes and coaches that were ready to be NFL head coaches. We will now see how good of a coach Reid really is without a star QB and very good coaching staff.

Yes you did Scorp and you are spot on with that assesment
My gut tells me they will go 1-4 in the next 5 games (with or without Vick at QB)

I think Brady’s injury has more to do with the Patriots’ losing ways. He has not been the same since his return. There was a time when Brady basically went untouched through the entire season. Not so, anymore.

I believe McNabb and Westbrook, and now Vick, covered Reid’s deficiencies.

This O line is not exactly playoff team caliper
They are one more injury away from a complete disaster and the way the Eagles have been dropping it will probably happen
And yeah it is a lot easier to QB in the NFL when your O line keeps you safe
Peyton and Brady have had that luxury since day one

I remember Bert Jones father telling the team with the first pick “Don’t draft my son because he isn’t signing with a team with an O line like you have” It would have ruined a rookie QBs career
They didn’t

There is nothing more critical about this week’s than any other game. One thing that makes the NFL the nation’s past time is that you really don’t know how good anybody is. Denver started out undeated and on fire and where were they come playoff time? The Vikings and Giants, Cowboys and Redskins stink right now. So what’s so hard about them being on the Schedule?

The Eagles can’t stop the run. They over pursue and they are undersized. I always thought the most damage McNabb would do to the Eagles was his understanding of how to gameplan against his former teammates. The blueprint is out, let’s see how McDermott adjusts.

Kolb can and will get alot better. If Andy Greed can coach up AJ Feely he can get something out of Kolb. But Now that there is more film on Kolb, those “almost interceptions” will become real int’s this week. Vick’s injury is a good thing for this team. Vick probably won’t be out long. Kolb will get some much needed playing time. His trade value will go from zero, something. He will also be better prepared if the Eagles should need him for a playoff run.

Should the team continue to lose, what differance does it make. After the Colts and Cowboys blow out the Eagles you’ll see that this tiny secondary and this tiny defensive line isn’t going to beat one playoff caliber team.

Happy Cheesesteak Andy Greed. Lavelle Edwards is proud of you.

Singletary is going to have his team pumped to play since they are embarrassed by that 0-4 record.
I personally think the Eagles lose this game. There are so many problems with this team .
Kolb is a scared little dear because the O line just plain sucks.
The defense has major issues like they forgot how to tackle and they CANNOT STOP THE RUN!!

I am so damn tired of hearing Reid’s condescending post game excuses…
”Listen, I take responsibility…Listen I will look at the film…Listen …Listen…Listen…” I am so tired of it!!

We should start a petition right now for the Eagles to fire Reid…we need a fresh start with a new coaching staff!

What do you guys think? WWW?

Dont be fooled by this garbage about New England was done with moss…this is about one thing MONEY. Moss is in the last year of contract and plain and simple New England didnt want to pay him!! they did the same crap with Richard Seymour, New England and Philadelphia share the same philosophy regarding paying players. Just Look at the Eagles roster and tell me how many guys are getting over a million dollars??? you will be surprised. the Eagles will give up up front money(Bonus) but when it comes to base contract(which counts against the cap) it is a whole different story. so this mess about the patriot way is what it is mess!!! when they won all of their superbowls they had multiple big name player at every position.

Eagles players making over $1 million per season (that I know of anyways)

QB Kolb & Vick
FB L Weaver, RB M Bell
LT J Peters, LG T Herremans, C/G N Cole, RT W Justice
TE B Celek
WR J Maclin and J Avant
DE – T Cole, J Parker, B Graham, D Tapp
DT – Bunkley, Patterson
LB – Bradley, SIms, Gaither
CB – Samuel, J Hanson , (E Hobbs,I am not sure about)
S – Mickell
K – Akers

Add players like Marlin Jackson, Jamall Jackson from the IR sqaud and this is about 27 players which is about 1/2 the Roster…. Cheap is not a accurate word for the Eagles have overapaid many players over the years and some that are on this years team too (Peters,Sims,Samuel,Weaver,Patterson,Gaither,Tapp,Bell,Kolb) just to name a few…
Mickell)

G:

This is an 8-8 team. Big Red should forget about the playoffs. I thought that they would lose to the Jaguars and beat the ‘skins, but the record works out the same. The defense has not shown itself to be playoff caliber. The QB is an audition every week. I will be rooting against my own thoughts this season, every week. I’m going to try to have fun, and so will alot of people, but the ’49ers and Mike Singletary are going to pound the Eagles this week. They are a playoff team, not the Eagles.
