As We Expected, Phillies Swept The Dust Off The Reds

The Cincinnati Reds along with their fans waited 15 years to get to the post season, let alone see a game played at home. Unfortunately for them, when they finally got a chance it was a game against one of the Phillies’ unstoppable trio of pitchers, 2008 World Series MVP, Cole Hamels.

It took Hamels only 119 pitches complete his first game in the postseason and to give the Phils their third straight trip to the NLCS.

Hamels threw seven scoreless innings allowing just five hits, with nine strikes outs, and no walks. He got help from his offense right off the bat after Placido Polanco singled to first, and later scored after Ryan Howard hit a two-out single and Jayson Werth had his ground ball to short stop booted.

The Phils offense added another run in the fifth when Chase Utley hammered a hanging slider into the right center field bleachers.

This is becoming quite the routine. The Phils had another champagne party, even though it was somewhat subdued.  We the fans are starting to expect it and so are the players.

This is everything a fan dreams of for their beloved Phils, but we have our eyes on one thing and one thing only: Getting to the World Series and taking our trophy back from the New York Yankees, who have already earned their spot in the ALCS.

If you ask me, the Yanks should be afraid, very afraid. Not only do we have the home field advantage and superior starting pitching, but we’re also seeking revenge and lots of it.

Is it fair to start talking about a parade before the NLCS even begins? I don’t see why not. Everything is leading towards those poles on Broad Street getting greased from top to bottom.

Roy Halladay, who recently pitched the second no hitter in postseason history, will take the mound Saturday as the Phils face either the Atlanta Braves or the San Francisco Giants. Both teams will be a challenge, but when it comes down to it I’ll be cheering for the Braves during the next two games.

Though the Braves won the series this season 4-3, the Giants pitching staff is just too good at the moment and are still riding high knocking the Padres out of the playoffs.

The Phils are playing at the top of their game right now. Besides the obvious H2O (Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt), almost everyone is healthy, the bats are getting hotter every day and oh, have I mentioned that this is their third straight trip to the NLCS? Yeah, it’s safe to say we have the experience on our side.

The Red have a solid and young nucleaus of players and will be around the next few years..
They remind me of the Younger Phils from a few years back..
They also have lots of young pitching who should only get better..
