Bunkley done for the year?

This is not what this Philadelphia Eagles defense needs right now. As it is, I haven’t been a huge fan of their tackle play, but this won’t help. Brodrick Bunkley tore a ligament in his elbow in Sunday night’s game against the 49ers and could be lost for the season, according to Geoff Mosher on Twitter.

“Actually, it’s possibly out for year. He definitely needs surgery,” Mosher tweets.

Ugh. This is going to make them even more thin at DT. Trevor Laws has actually played pretty well this year after offering nothing previously. And I’m okay with Antonio Dixon as well. But losing Bunkley for a significant portion of the season is going to be a blow to the middle of the line.

Let’s see how Laws and Dixon handle the increased reps.

UPDATE: Here is the quote from Andy Reid’s radio show on WIP per Rueben Frank of CSNPhilly.com:

The nerve to the funny bone shifted, and they’re going to go in and straighten that out. It’s not career-threatening, but it’s going to take some time to get him back.”

That’s not good. To even mention the words “career-threatening,” regardless of context, is bad.

Dixon appears to be able to play. Laws is less disappointing so far than usual. Better it be Bunk than Nate Allen or Trent.

After surgery and rehab, very difficult for him to come back this Season Micah,
I would expext he has surgery tommorrow/wed and then is placed on IR for the remainder of the Season
I would expect tthe Eagles to call up DT J Owens from Practice squad to join the rotation of
PAtterson,Dixon & Laws,
A possible move is activating PUP player V Abriami and adding him to active Roster and mayve use him or D Tapp as a pass rushing DT, but I think Abriami in not in Football shape and probably done for as far as this year and most likely his career with the EAgles
Does anyone have an update on what Abriami’s been doing, they have to week # 6 to activate, place on IR or to release him outright I believe…
Could also see the return on DE/OLB A Barnes to give another pass rushing DE if Tapp/Graham are need to move inside at play DT as a pass-rushers…
At least they have some options at this position and along the DL in general

What the heck happened to Lito Sheppard? He went fromm being a Pro-Bowler here, to losing his job when he wanted more money and quit playing hard. Then he went to the Jets, and lost his job there too. Now he is with the Vikes, and I think he is the dime, not seeing any of him on the field. Did he just lose perspective and think he was better than he was? Or have all of the nagging hamstring injuries finally taken their toll?

It’s been abour 3-4 Season since L Shpeard was a productive NFL player and has lived off his name
ever since..
You could say the same thing about B Dawkins and S Brown too, for they are not the players they once were wither.. These guys played a lot of good football, but clearly age, injuries have caught up to them, their best playing days sureley are in the rear view mirror
On a side note, did anyone think the 49ers Safety Taylor Mays looked all that impressive the other evening.. I didn’t see him do a whole lot and know that a lot of EAgles fans were ga-ga over him coming out the draft.. I have watched him in 2-3 games so far and he looks simply average…

I wish bunkly a very speedy recovery…BUT on that note ive been saying for a while now its time to move one from both patterson and bunkly. Especially with as much talent as we have on the bench and on the pratice squad for the d line i think this is dixons, laws, and maybe evens owens time to shine.
@ PMAN agreed other than dawk. Just in the sense that unlike all the others players in your list he is STILL making pro bowls. Agreed not the dawk of the early 2000s but still a monster on the field

Eagles4 – Dawkins aside, you really think probowls measure anything at all? They’re BS, the players know it, most fans know it…. really, you’re using that as a measure for a guys worth as a football player?

@ schill Hmmm you have a valid point.; Prob bowls are just BULLS*&T popualrity contests for the most part. What i should have said was that dawkins by far still has a lot more left than sheepard or brown who were two of my fav players. Regardless of all that dawk EARNED that probowl nod for the broncos. 116 total tacles 1 forced fumble and two interceptions seems pretty good to me at least. He didnt JASON PETERS his way into the probowl. i would even take it a step further and say as much as i love mr allen and think he is our futrue at the posistion…i wouldnt mind still having dawk on the team. Just Saying

I always suspected Lito’s downfall had more to do with the space between his ears than his ability beginning to slip, at least when he was here. He let Drew R convince him he should be getting big time money, and Drew was the man to get it for him. He forced his way out of here, and could never get his game going again, pretty disappointing, I really liked him, especially against Dallas.

Yeah, dawkins did earn that probowl bid last year, but it’s pretty clear that the Eagles were right to not pay him for 5 (future at the time) expected years of production like the Broncos did. Dawkins left for the big money on his own accord, and the Eagles where right to not overpay him for five years, let alone pay him appropriately for the 1-2 years he may have had left in him. His ego got a boo boo from their meager initial offer and he spurned them the courtesy of continuing with negotiations.

And that will Dawkins last ProBowl ever….The FO was right for not offering a multi-year deal.

Dawkins had a great first 8-10 weeks with the Broncos last Season and I am sure played with a big chip on his shoulder in his new surroundings but his play really tailed off by the end of the Season as it did for the entire Bronco team. This year, he is off to a rough start and will probably see himself on the sidelines more and more as the Season progresses as the Broncos go with some of their younger players at Safety. This will Dawkins final season in the NFL

I thought that Dixon played very well against the run, because he is difficult to move. Also, Laws has been getting some pressure on the QB. I really haven’t seen that much from Bunkley. Not that I want him to get hurt, but having Dixon play more substantial time could show AR that maybe this D needs some Gilbert Brown size dudes, so that they stopped getting gashed up the middle.

I agree with BugsyMalone about the rotation of Dixon/LAws should be ok in replacement of Bunkley
The key is the conditioning and stamina of Dixon.. Can he be effective playing 35-40 snaps a game
(as oppoed to the 12-15 he ha been getting) I think he can but time will tell

Eagle Nation, have no fears. Football Karma is working for the eagles in spite of coaches, players and fans. I feel a shift in our favor, our record doesn’t show it but something is making move that should have been made. Look and see:
1) Vick needed to be the starter but the coaches were not going to do it, in spite of them a shift in the force was made so clear that a change had to be made.

2) Kolb needed to be our secure back up, viola he plays against SanFran plays good, has convidence, ubt more importantly I believe he understands his play in the universe.

3) Sadly we lose Weaver, but we have found our third back for the future. Imagine if you will Mccoy, Weaver, and Schimdt. Now Weaver can bounce from HB to FB freely.

4) We need power up front, well bunkley is good, but I believe power, speed and fury, but more importantly a greater chemistry set has just been formed: Dixon, Laws, Owens, Patterson. The loyalty of the coaches would not make the change so “The Fooball Force” has made it so.

5) Reid would not run the ball, faith has forced his hand with nice success that he can not refute, and now he will ride that horse to its conclusion.

6) Samuels out for a minute, our backups got some prime time confidence (Yeak ok I am stretching right there.

7) Vick learned a valuable lesson on the art of sliding.

Anyway with some practice time together, I think this new front D look will turn out nice and will surprise us
all. I think that the o-lone is going to turn the table just enough to allow the QB’s to breath.

So these are the ramblings of a dreaming fan with a gut feeling and an eye on the Falcons. You can disagree with me, hell i might just to, but hell its a nice thought and a few that I have heard suggested here.

You need to know I am crazy, got the papers right here on my desk to prove it, as always
LONG LIVE THE EAGLES

Since when has Bunkley lived up to being drafted in the middle of round 1. I haven’t seen much out of him. He’s not a huge run stuffer and he doesn’t pressure the QB. The Eagles are around 28th against the run. We don’t have the corners like we used to either. I just think the Eagles need to part ways with Bunkley and Patterson and restart. DT’s should be no less than 6’4 and 310 lbs. They are there to fill gaps and stop the run. On passing plays, tall DT’s can get their hands up and block some passes. Over the years, the Eagles have made one mistake in the draft after another. Not taking Wilfork, Ngata is just a few of them.

UPDATE – injury to Bunkley not as bad as it was first thought. He possibly could play through the pain.

I Heard the same, maybe be ready in 2-3 weeks at most,
they should keep him out thru th eBye week and have him rested and healed for the 2nd half of the season
