Reid: Kolb Likely To Start Again Versus Titans, Vick Is Getting Better

Andy Reid just said that Kevin Kolb is probably going to get the start again next weekend against the Tennessee Titans.

He praised Kolb’s play and his team attitude when he benched him earlier in the season. The head coach says Kolb is going through the maturation process that most young quarterbacks go through.  He also said the offensive line is improving at the same time which has made Kolb’s job easier than earlier in the season.

Reid stuck with his previous statement that Michael Vick was still the team’s starting quarterback, despite how Kolb has been playing and the good chance that he will start again this weekend.

Reid also said there’s no chance he would trade either of his quarterbacks before the trading deadline.

He explained the pre-game situation with Vick and it made a lot of sense.  Reid says he wasn’t going to use Vick unless both quarterbacks were injured.  He would have only used him if they were in a quarterback sneak situation after both Kolb and Mike Kafka had been injured and there was the need of a quarterback sneak.

Reid had said previously that he had worked out a number of the receivers at the quarterback position in case the two quarterbacks were injured.

He says he told Vick that he wanted him to come in at 12:15 and get treatment, so that he would continue to get better.  I also understand why he wouldn’t want Vick out there warming up and thinking about playing.

It didn’t sound true when I originally heard his explanation from somebody else, but I’ve changed my mind after hearing him it directly from him.  I think Reid was doing what any other coach would do.

Reid praised just about everybody at the news conference.  He went out of way to single out Marty Mornhinweg and I agree with him wholeheartedly.  His game plan was the best of the season.  The Falcons still haven’t figured out how they were disected.

You guy’s who come on this site after the Eagle’s beat arguably the best team in the NFC and still continue to ridicule Andy Reid just come off as complete assholes. I read on a thread where one moron called Reid “a stupid fat pig”..That’s wrong. It’s wrong to dismantle people like that. Andy Reid is the best coach the Eagle’s ever had. Period. Not because he beat the Falcon’s on Sunday either. He’s steadfast and handle’s hot-button topics better than you or I would.

I agree Jimmy. I for 3 years have wanted reid out because he is slow to change, has a hard time with game managment and because this D is small. BUT…. i dont slam him for his size, call him an idiot, pick on his sons or anything like that. He and his coaches were ready to play this week and they executed amazingly. One of the problems ive had with big red is that he puts all his eggs in 1 basket (5 can get it donw with no weapons and a game plan that has no run), well….. against atlanta we watched Jackson get the ball early…. sprinkle in some shady and wash it down with a tall glass of maklin. It was great use of everyone. Great win for Andy.

1 word on Kolb…. ive flip flopped on this guy so many times im dizzy. i was angry that they named this guy King without him really earning it. He’s been humbled now and thats a GREAT thing. Last week he was lucky…. his passes were short and the wr’s bailed him out. This week….. he nailed it. Hit guys in stride and did his thing. Great job kevin. I have no idea where we go from here. I say…. short leash all around. you want the job….. dont screw up.

I predicted the Eagles would win 24-13 under Eagles-Falcons discussion blog. As stated in the past I felt Kolb would get better as AJ Feely played well under Andy Greed’s coaching. McDermotts defensive changes coupled with Bunkleys injury meant better play at the DT position, and over all defense. The trading of Mike Bell sent a message to everybody playing special teams.

But I did not see Dunlap holding his own against Atlanta.

Some of you were gloating over Dunlap’s success in your post, but if you tell me you thought Dunlap was going to have a good game before yesterday, then I will kindly ask you to put the bottle down, walk slowly to the phone, and call nearest rehab facility and tell them to pick you up from your room in your mother’s basement.

Pretty close Tydm,
Paulman’s new Top 10 in the NFC after week #6 is like this

#1) Giants 4-2 (3 game winning streak)
#2) Saints 4-2 (finally put togetther a complete game
#3) Eagles 4-2 (playing better every week and Kolb and team gain in confidence)
#4) Falcons 4-2 (were beaten at the line of scrimmage most of the game by the Eagles)
#5) Seahawks 3-2 ( A big road win at Chicago after being down by 10 points early)
#6) Bears 4-2 (blew a 10 point lead at home which could be precursor of things to come)
#7) Redskins 3-3 (Every game has been close and right down to the end, Can McNabb perform well at the end of games.. so far, the jury is still out)
#8) Packers 3-3 (Having lots of injuries on both sides of the ball, how long can A Rodgers lead them to Victory without a running game)

Who else would you put BTC24…

The 5 Top teams all have 4-2 records and since the GIants are the only team with 3 Wins in a row,
I give the edge to them as of the week..(both their losses were against Colts & Titans which are pretty good teams) This again just shows how wide open the race is in the NFC for the Playoffs .

Agreed, very wide open. I guess I can’t argue with it very much I’m just not sold on the Giants. They have been pretty consistent. I’d go #1) Saints, #2) Eagles, #3) Giants. The Giants are actually 3 point underdogs this week to Dallas.

A lot of people have amnesia since kolb came in. Dont forget, it was Michael Vick that the NFL said was playing like the best QB in the league and that he was playing like a man possessed. Vick is the guy. Kolb is great to have as a backup tho. Allow me to break the difference down really quickly:

When Kolb lost his job, it was because of Injury AND he was not playing well. But when Vick went down, it was because of Injury BUT he was playing like the best player in the league. So for that matter, Vick deserves the starting job back when he is healthy regardless of how well Kolb is playing. Kolb is doing his job as a backup and thats wassup because we are winning!

BTC, you will not find SONGS on here at all, except to probably blame Kolb for DJaxs’ injury, other than that he’ll be invisible until Kolb makes the smallest mistake and then he’ll be al over him.

So the OLine plays a really good game all around (pleasant surprise) and Kolb has a great game….go figure, didn’t think the play of both could be related…

Dizzy, I agree. I’m not saying Kolb should remain the starter. I just love the fact that Kolb is playing well and beginning to develop into a good QB, thus silencing all the haters who were so quick to judge him after one half of football against the Packers. At this point, the way Vick and Kolb have been playing, I really don’t care who starts.

I feel you BTC. I really like Kolb too. But Vick is really good man. And not to mention, exciting. Arguably the most exciting player in the NFL History. It’s just soothing to know that if Vick goes down, Kolb can come in and be effective as well.

And like I said in the other post, Im friends with King Dunlap. I’ve been known what he was capable of doing. People were cutting Kolb so much slack and freedom to mess up…But they wouldn’t give my boy the same chance. Not fair. But I’m glad King shut the haters up.

Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher’s record against the NFC East is outstanding over the Years..
He has built the Titans Team like an NFC East Team… ( I always thought he would be a great fit for Coaching the Eagles but appears happy there in Tennessee)
I Think the Eagles match up pretty well with the Colts who are not the same team they used to be,
their O/Line is average and if you get Manning moving laterally, he isn’t as dangerous when stepping up in the pocket (as most QB’s are)
The only thing I know for sure in this crazy NFL season and you are only as gooo as your next game, the season is in the “here and now”, you can’t look forward, or waste time and energy worrying about what coulda/shoulda been. The Season and opponents march on

To BTC,
The Saints lost a home game in OT to the Falcons in a game which could have went either way
theye lost by 10 to the Arizona Cardinals with a free-agent QB in his 1st in the NFL, They are hurting at RB and Safety position where they are down to their 3rd String players…
My point is, you can’t write a story about every team in the NFL this years and list the question marks, the injuries or coaching schemes, etc, etc… It’s as wide open as I can recall and if the NFL goes to a 2 game Pre-season schedule, shorter camps and 18 NFL Games, I am not so sure that the quality of the game will be improved,in fact, I think the quality and level of play will suffer..

Best thing the eagles could do right now is trade Vick while his stock his high. Hanging on to him and stunting kolb’s growth or delaying kolb’s failure is just a waste of resources.

NO you dont trade Vick! Mugzy WTF is wrong with you? SMFH @ Mugzybrown. Trade Kolb while he is showing promise. We could get a 1st round pick for him or a great offensive lineman and a sufficient back up QB in a package. I guess everyone has their opinion. But Vick is the man! How can you not see that? You really want to trade a superstar QB with playoff experience and more knowledge rather than a player with No playoff experience and a few games experience with a couple of losses? You must be crazy! Vick is a Quarterback that can run AND pass. He scares the Sh*t out of defenses. I just really dig that

Paulman, I do not feel strongly about the rankings I gave you. I really can’t even argue with yours. I don’t recall a year when the NFC was so wide open. It’s gonna come down to who is the healthiest at the end of the year. I also think a wildcard will come from the East again.

It will definintely be a battle of attrition and the team with the most healthy roster, will probably make the playoffs and compete for a Super Bowl..
A team that I do will make a strong run and get better and better is the Vikings..
They play the Packers next Sun night in GB and the Pack are decimated with injuries right now and lost a couple more players in yeasterday’s game.. The Vkings win and go 3-3, they will most likely be only a game out of first behind the Bears who I really don’t think is that strong of team..
I wish the Eagles had Vikings early on their schedule…

I will give Andy Greed and his staff credit, but please gentlemen, don’t start drinking the koolaid. Don’t let them take you on this emotional high, start getting your hopes up, ranking the Eagles 3rd in the conference and you already lost to the Redskins and have yet to prove we can beat the Cowboys. Then come crashing down so hard you’re ready to kick Vick/Kolb and Andy out of town. It happens every year for over a decade. Go buy the history of the Eagles DVD and look at the Eagles fans faces after the NFC championship loss.

Somebody said trade Vick? Kolb has already had one concussion and you want to trade Vick?

Remember, there is a reason this team stops at the Championship game. This BYU offense does not work against a good coach & a good team.

I love the Eagles. I went to work in Redskin Country wearing a Eagles Jersey Jacket Hat and blanket over my uniform. Like Schiller, I was a soar winner. Rubbed it in all the time. Then I had to go to work with a fake nose and glasses after every playoff loss. The back to back Dallas butt whippings was the worst the Eagles have looked in a long time. Until they beat Dallas or any divisional team, I’d keep the champaine on ice.

bsm, thanks for the shout out, but how am I sORE? I don’t get your reference at all….

And Andy gets no more money from any contract decisions so how exactly is he greedy? That makes ZERO sense.

If you like to limit your emotions because you can’t handle the ups and downs of a football season, but for most people, myself included, if you can’t enjoy a win for your football team, than what da hell is the damn point of being a fan? You have an answer for that? Are you just going to say ‘Superbowl or bust”? Cause if that’s the case – the WHAT DA HELL DOES ‘BUST’ MEAN? (and don’t say boobs)…..

Does it suck to be a hater? I can only assume so….

About trading away either one, why in hell would you do that? We aren’t halfway through the season, and we already have blatant, obvious proof that you need both to succeed. It’s just plain dumb to want to throw a way such an elusive and important key to success – two quality starting caliber QBs. It’s like a bargain hunter falling for a sale price on a product they just don’t need – just cause someone might want to trade for Kolb or Vick, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea – at all.

F the trade idea, seriously.

Man, that was a great win yesterday. Everyone should enjoy it for at least 48 hours before bringing on the hate. 😉 No matter any flaws they got things going in the right direction. With this young team they could have just as easily gone out, laid an egg and chalked it up to having a young team that’s learning. But instead they rose to the occasion and got the job done.

It was great to see Kolb play well also. If nothing else he increased his future trade value. Its an interesting situation where Kolb and Vick are both auditioning all year for a starting job and big payday with SOME team next year. One of them gets paid by the Eagles, the other by someone else. I did laugh at all the media crying for Kolb when Reid decided to start Vick. How do you feel sorry for someone that is banking $10mm or whatever this year?

Relax, only kidding Schiller,
Neither QB is going anywhere this season.. by Thanksgiving time, we will know who the QB for the Eagles will be for remiander of the 2010 season and for the future..
I think both will play, both will be needed and the Team can Win with either of them at the helm so It’s a great situation to be in.. .Some teams haven;t figured out who their Starting QB should be..
The Panthers,Bills,Browns,Raiders,Cardinals are all playing the merry go round with the QB positions and still haven’t figured out what to do and have had pretty crappy results so far..

Ok here me out and maybe im crazy. But screw it! Why not start whatever QB you want. Like having a double QB. pick a guy to start say kolb. kolb have a bad game pull him at half and play vick. Or vise versa. Coaches dont have accurate game plans for vick nore kolb. Because none have them have played a full season. So keep them off balance by playing a specific qb for that game. And if by half hes playing like garbage you swtich to the second guy. It would be a whole new system for qb’s by committee like running backs????? No coaches have any full tape on any of these guys!!!

Birdo Beamans Top 5 NFC Teams

1) Eagles – 2 wins in a row. Dismantled a veteran Atlanta team with a very young and injury depleted squad with their backup QB. Sky is the limit for this team.
2) Giants – Defense appears to be back but secondary is still suspect. NFC East will come down to Giants and Eagles.
3) Saints – defending Superbowl champs. Not as explosive as last year but can still beat any team in the league.
4) Falcons – getting completely dismantled by the Eagles knocked them down a bit but I expect them to come back strong.
5) Packers – a couple of heartbreaking losses the past couple of weeks for one of the only teams that has more injury problems than the Eagles. Completely diff. defense without Clay Mathews — he’s their Polamalu. They’ll be ok.

I have never witnessed an NFL season such as this. We all knew coming in that it would be exciting, but no one could have predicted THIS.

It has taken Reid sooooooooo long to run the ball. Sooooooooo long.

I’ve always felt that he was a very good coach in many ways. After all, no one can deny the way his teams have peaked at the end of each year. This is proof that he’s a great motivator and teacher.

I’ve also felt that he was very good at designing plays. That’s why I expected so much from the Wildcat (although that never materialized).

On the other hand, his blind spots (which were obvious to nearly everyone) have prevented him from winning. How many years did it take him to draft receivers, linebackers, etc.? And how long did it take him to play his youngsters, especially rookies? And, now, after 11 years, he is finally running the ball. In so doing, he has kept opposing defense off-balanced and he has given his defense much-needed rest). Considering their size (or lack thereof), it is vital that they remain fresh throughout both the game and the season.

His prior unwillingness to make these necessary changes caused me to want him out of here. But, iIf he has truly turned the corner on his philosophy, I’m back on board.

If he hasn’t, we’ll only end up with another injured QB, to go along with yet another disappointing season’s end.
