My Thoughts Eagles/Titans

It’s one thing to go out and get beat by a better opponent. But, it hurts worse when you dominate them for much of the game and then watch them completely take over. That’s what happened yesterday down in Tennessee.

So let’s take a look at this frustrating game:

What I liked…

-How did no one else notice Antonio Dixon? How did he slip through the cracks? I have not been happy with the defensive tackle play of the Eagles and he has changed a lot of that. He is very active and gets into the backfield. Pressure up the middle disrupts any offense. Wally Pipp is going to have some competition when he gets healthy again.

-Can’t complain about a run defense that bottled up the best running back in football. They completely shut Chris Johnson down.

-Quintin Mikell had a nice game. Nice to see him out there doing some good things.

-Owen Schmidt has done a decent job for someone that they brought in off the scrap heap. Not bad at all.

-I dig Chad Hall. How can you not root for this guy? I don’t know that he’s ever going to be a big time, impact player in the NFL. But, he’s proved that he belongs in here somewhere.

-A much better day for the special teams. Akers got back in a groove and Sav Rocca did a nice job again. Returns were limited and Jorrick Calvin even managed to break off a decent one. Much better.

-Kevin Kolb owes Riley Cooper dinner. Cooper made an insane play out of what was a sure interception.

-Jason Avant had a decent day with six catches for 60 yards. But, let’s be honest, he just isn’t fast enough to make an impact on the outside.

…and not so much…

-Kolb went back to his poor decision making. I don’t think he was an unmitigated disaster as some have said. But he wasn’t good enough. He needed to make more plays down field for sure. They seemed to be there.

-This offensive line just doesn’t get it done. I’m not blaming the players necessarily because they have had no continuity all year. But, the bottom line is that they aren’t good enough as a unit.

-I’ll chime in with everyone else: Ellis Hobbs and Nate Allen stunk up the joint. Allen has an excuse because he’s a kid. What’s yours, Ellis?

-Penalties, penalties, penalties. Stupid penalties and at the worst times. The fumble at the three-yard line wouldn’t have been a big deal if they didn’t let them off the hook with a big pass interference penalty. So many dumb penalties that kept drives – and the Titans – alive.

-You can’t outplay a team for that long and dominate field position and only have a three-point lead. You have to make them pay and the Eagles didn’t.

-Where has Brandon Graham been? Fell out of favor already?

-Are the Eagles going to get anything out of Brent Celek this year?

-Does Juqua Parker really not understand that you can’t just chuck QB’s to the ground like that? Seriously?

-Kenny Britt just scored again.

-Jeremy Maclin has all the ability in the world to be a high-end wide receiver. He also has the ability to drop passes all over the field. That has to stop.

-If you see that one of your cornerbacks is getting torched to bejesus and back, don’t make any adjustments. Continue with what your doing and assume things will change.

-27 points given up in the fourth quarter? Really? I didn’t know that teams would be capable of doing that in just a 15-minute period.

-The bottom line is that the Eagles had a chance to step on the Titans’ throats and go 5-2. They blew it. Big time.

How about the Fumbled by returnman Colvin with 4 minutes left and it’s still a 1 Possesion Game..

Bad play calling/decisions per field conditions was huge. Obviously, as the announcers mentioned, the wind was coming in strongly at one end of the field, why throw long passes when marching that way? i.e. lucky flee flicker. The only thing worse then not physically being able to cut it, is to be mentally insufficient. 10 penalties for a hundo? Allowing Kerry Collins to go off? Can someone explain to me how such a grossly under thrown ball, like the one Collins threw to Britt, turned into a TD? If your guy has to circle back to make a catch, at the very least you should be able to tackle him. I think our talent level is there, we beat these guys down the first half and should have taken them out, however mental mistakes doomed us. P.s. Am I the only guy who enjoyed the drive at the end of the first half? Loved 5, but he couldn’t manage the two minute drill with a clock, it would have not been fair with no clock!

After demolishing the Falcons and dominating the Titans up the 3 yard line play I was amazed and thought the Eagles could play with any team in the NFL–a great surprise

Then Britt did his thing and the dream ended –he made it look easy

after the mishandle by kolb and mccoy. All the eagles did was pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, they became so predictable. They deserve to lose the game. and on a side note, one of my best friends is a pats fan and he said to me. The weakest link on your team is going to be ellis hobbs. Hes just not a starter. Britt torched him. I watched britt run the routes and he didnt do anything special. Hes not that good of a route runner. Hobbs just sucks

ur right dawplex
the kevin kolb scheme works when running the ball and mart and andy have the d off balanced with alot of gadget type misdirection and roll the pocket play actions
it def wont work if andy stops coaching and acts like he has a superstar back there (not saying kolb wont be a star just not 1 yet at all)
next last week i mentioned that atl and sf just sat back played mostly zones and let the o dictate
i stated that tenn would not do this
tennesee would get after us and they did they would be very physical with our wr’s and they were
this style of d gives us problems
same style as green bay d
so while we could have won should have won i didnt think we had a shot to begin with so i was somewhat proud of our team
im not gonna blast kolb or ellis hobbs or any of these guys these r guys i have been blasting so no news here
but nate allen CMON MAN
fumble on the 3 CMON MAN
kenny britt looked like plaxico burress out there awful he dont even start

Dawkplex, what was wrong with the end of first half time management? Yeah, they used 1 timeout, and got another score…what’s the problem?

I didn’t get to see this game I had a wedding to be at but I listened to the first half in the car. It sounded like the birds were off and running and I loved the way they moved down the field for a score right before half. It sounded like the Titans got lucky on the penalty against parker on third down that eventually ended up being 7. What the heck happended in the second half. I saw a highlight of the fumble on the three- That guy was unblocked to the QB (UNacceptable)

What is with our D giving up so many points (seemingly) late in games (Detroit, Sanfran, Titans?)

A big play that many have failed to mention believe it or not is when LT K Dunlap went dowin with an
injury to his knee just before the fumble debacle.. They moved Herremans to LT and broung in a cold
N Cole (who hasn;t played in a month) to play LG, and whammo on the very next play, Cole completely misses his assignment (though Center McGlynn took repsonsibility) and DT Jones comes rushing in untouched to cause a fumble as Kolb was attempting to hand it off to McCoy..
Who would have thougght that K Dunlap not being on the field would cause the Eagles to possibly miss the 2010 Post Season and begin a 5 year of futility where the Eagles best season is 7-9..

Well everybody is concentrating on that fumble on the 3 as the turning point
Yes but not by itself
True the Titans marched down the field ( aided by a dubious penalty) but they only scored a FG

Eagles came right back and scored a FG

THEN the next Turning Point occurred
Akers boots it into the end zone for a TB
The FIRST play Collins hits Britt on an 80 yard TD –that was the real killer

NO consistency. Reid and Kolb good last week , not good this week. Vick great against bad teams and below average against the average Redskins.

Eagles final four drives: 10 total plays, three 3 & outs, 0 first downs, -6 total net yds gained, 1 int. It’s true the defense collapsed, but so did the Bird’s offense. Not a single first down in their 4 final drives. And Calvin’s fumble was a killer.

G, why can’t u simply say “Reid should have ran the ball in the 4th, period” and other things like “fire his a#s!!!!” We all know running it tires the D and runs the clock out. even if u are losing by a little bit and especially when u have the lead, RUN IT . This pass happy crap pisses me off. Vikings would have had better shot if they just ran it more, with an old or new Favre. Vick was 17-32 with one of the bad teams we played. Those numbers have to be better if we are to play a Super Bowl team. Reid would have helped Vick by running a little more with his 61% pass completion. yes, that is a big deal compared to 67% those extra passes can mean 7 points. in a game of inches u betcha. Of COURSE he would have helped Kev out by running the ball. Even balanced team like Giants should have ran it more against the Cowboys last night, cause 3 of those int. Manning threw would not have happened.

TYDM….you should feel good…..Now, Reid will commit to the run with Vick back and see if we can get on a roll….Read it and paste it…If Vick come back and beat the Colts…this Eagles team will go deep in the playoffs…..paste it. remember it. I told everyone that the real Kolb would be seen against the Titans…look what happened

Vick makes the whole team better…He even make Reid look good…Kob need all variables working to be successful and with glaring weaknesses on this roster he make average talent better. That’s a leader.
