Reid: “It’s a crazy league…. I know I have a good football team”

Andy Reid will do his usual self-evaluation during the bye week.  He said he’s going to evaluate himself and his coaches then they’re going to take a look at his players.

This is the formula which has allowed his previous Eagles teams to finish strong in just about all the seasons he’s been here.

“It’s a crazy league right now”, Reid told the media today.  “We’re right there in the hunt.  I know I have a good football team.”

I agree with Reid on that, it is a “very” crazy league this year.  There’s no telling which team is going to show up from week to week and that’s true for every team in the league.

Reid will meet with the team this afternoon and talk about them learning from not taking advantage of the opportunities they had to put the Titans away.

When asked about Michael Vick’s progress and whether he would be back for the Colts, Reid turned into the comedian, saying it was obvious he was eager to get back out there because of the penalty he got for being on the field.

Reid thinks he’s on schedule to be back but spoke of his confidence in Kevin Kolb.

As for those guys, Vick and Kolb, having an understanding about what’s going on at the quarterback position.  Reid said, “I talk to both of those guys every day.  They know where I’m at and that’s the important part of it.”

Reid says Jackson is doing well but he hasn’t been medically cleared to play as of yet.

I think Reid feels he can do some damage with this team after he gets Vick and Jackson back.   There’s a good chance both of them will be available against the Indianapolis Colts, which is the first game after the bye week.

As for yesterday’s game, Reid did his usual tap dance.  He’s a great dancer for a guy well over 300 pounds.

He put up the smoke and mirrors when somebody asked him about doing something to stop Kenny Britt, who put a serious butt-whupping on Ellis Hobbs and rookie Nate Allen.

He talked about everybody taking the time to learn from this opportunity.

Big Red said he thought Sean McDermott had a heck of a game plan against Tennessee.  Then Reid paused and mentioned the fourth quarter.

I agree with him about McDermott’s game plan, except for Kenny Britt. If one guy is killing you, you’ve got to do something to stop it.  Britt and Kerry Collins sliced up the coverage of Ellis Hobbs and Nate Allen, like a hot knife going through butter.

This was almost as bad as Andy and Marty standing on the sideline as Osi Umenyiora beat Winston Justice for six sacks and the Giants recorded 12 sacks on McNabb on a Sunday night game at the Meadowlands.

Reid didn’t buy the idea of putting Asante Samuel on Britt to stop him.  He said you don’t start flopping guys around by shifting Samuel over there on him.

I say do whatever you have to do to get this guy under control.  You don’t stand over there on the sidelines and let a guy destroy your defense.

I would have took Allen out of the game.  The kid’s confidence was damaged and he wasn’t looking back for the ball.  He was playing scared.

Reid is so damn stubborn sometimes and dosent think out of the box. You have to be open minded and think out of the box sometimes in order for your team to get the w. I dont expect us to win every game but this is one we should have had. we are now 0-4 against tennesee and its our own faults

Our defense has been the most inconsistent unit of the year. I’m not sure what’s up with our secondary. I think we need to address the 2nd CB position in the offseason. Hopefully there are some big names that hit free agency.

yea our defense is very inconsistent…Honestly the defense has only played pretty well in two games…(Jaguars and Falcons) Other than that, its been all over the place! one week we can’t defend the run, the next week we give up big plays in the secondary…I do believe that the D shows potentional and should be able to improve by year end…(Hopefully to the point where they can get off the field on a big 3rd down) Not seeing too many blitzing schemes either…with a QB like Collins you’d think we’d send the house a little more..

DE B Graham and D Tapp

Wait Paulman, you mean Brandon Graham isn’t playing like the Rookie of the Year like some of the FO apologists proclaimed on here? And Tapp, that wonderful pickup that our gcobb Spadaro announced as a steal. The entire D line besides Cole is filled with players or are average or worst and can’t play 3 downs. All situational guys. Not surprising that these guys aren’t producing. At least Graham is only a rookie but many went too far in the offseason by thinking this guy was gonig to be Freeney right now. He needs to get his head in the game. Or else, he’ll end up like like a lot of our DE draft picks and signings.

I hope that Graham isnt a part of the long list of AR 1st round bust. All i heard was how dynamic Graham was this summer. Hes a DE go get the qb. Cant be that hard to figure out. Celek what is up with him? He has regressed. Nothing down field, dropped passess all year long.

Paul Mancini

Fisher has a great overall record vs the entire NFC East which the Titans have dominated the few seasons
To Scorp.. I stated after the Draft that the Eagles gave up too much in my book to move up 11 spots and select B Graham. Graham will be a solid pro but not a game changer (at least not anytime soon)
If they were going to trade away all that they did, then they should have Selected Safety Eric Thomas who is an immediate game changer and playing really well for the Seattle Seahawks..
I actually wanted the Eagles to stand pat and select all the high draft picks they initially had (#24,#37,#55,#70,#87,#105,#121) etc etc
I also stated that Defensive ROY Award will go to MLB R Mclain of the Oakland Raiders hands down and still stand by that prediction though E Thomas is giving him a run for his money

Well everybody is concentrating on that fumble on the 3 as the turning point
Yes but not by itself
True the Titans marched down the field ( aided by a dubious penalty) but they only scored a FG

Eagles came right back and scored a FG

THEN the next Turning Point occurred
Akers boots it into the end zone for a TB
The FIRST play Collins hits Britt on an 80 yard TD –that was the real killer

NO consistency. Reid and Kolb good last week , not good this week. Vick great against bad teams and below average against the average Redskins.

Paul Mancini
Paul Mancini
October 25, 2010 8:08 pm

Well Mr Vick will have a chance versus the Colts who are struggling Defensively and have lots of
injuries on both sides of the ball.. DT A Johnson is out, 2 Safeties B Sanders and M Bullit are out forthe years, MLB G Brackett has a gimpy knee and is week to week but not the same player he was a couple years back. Pretty simple game plan, protect the edges and contain Freeney and Mathis, and there shouldn’t be a reason that the Eagles don’t put up 30 points versus this Colt Defense. Vick being the most mobile QB of all time, schould be able to roll out, scramble, move up in the pocket and light this secondary up, McCoy/HArrison and Hall should be able to run between the tackles and the middle of the field should be open for TE Celek and Avant as the COlts will drop back in a COver 2 anda Cover 3 to preevent the big plays over the top to D-Jax/Maclin. If the protect the ball and stay away from negative plays and penalties, they should move the ball up and down the field versus this Colt’s Defense
On the other side of the ball, the COlts are missing their top 2 backs in Addia/Brown who are still hobbled and their All-Pro TE D Clark is gone for the season with no real threat behind him as a back-up (Sounds familiar), Also their 2nd/3rd/4th WR’s (Garcon,Collie & Gonzales) are all hurt and nursing an sassortment of injuries, Garcon will play and possibly Gonzales, but Collie is out for a few weeks
I know P Manning is All-World to most observors, but this is not usualy strong Colt teams of recent years, their O/Line is average at best (especially at Guard and LT) and should be exploited and thei rrunning game without Addai & Brown is not very good..I am sure they will run R Wayne vs Hobbs all game long so the Eagles need to adjust if Hobbs is not up for the challenge. The Colts will finish
with about 9 wins and probably miss the playoffs for the first time and 7-8 Years and bottom line
with their 2nd year Coach in J Caldwell, they are starting their decline for their Super Bowl Window has closed in my opinion and will struggle to beat out both Houston Texans and Tennesee to win the AFC South Division and have their own very difficult schedule ahead of them too..

With Vick starting, this season is a lost cause. He will turn into the Old Vick, Eagles will wind up around 9-7 or 8-8. Even worse if they re-sign Vick as the QB we have McNabb 2.0 ….. so prepare to tread water for the next 2 years while Vick’s legs die on him.

We still mentioning McNabb? some say he did not have wr’s but he did last year and we lost to Raiders. and Cowboys, and few other teams. wr’s were ok in SB with a 70% TO and help westbrook. plus i would consider 5’s O line that was great at pass protection for so long. that would neutralize wr situation especially with Westbrook. I do have a question though. The throw to Westbrook in SB that got intercpted. which i still think their was a little D interference. Was their another receiver open? or was no one open and 5 should have not thrown it at all. Reid should have ran the ball more it tires the D and helps our qb.

tydm
tydm
October 26, 2010 7:21 am

Reid should have ran the ball at least in 4th(dumbass) Still Kolb should have thrown a TD. He might get thrown in here too, but Vick and Mcnabb are like Ryan Howard. Great in regular season when u play bad teams but do nothing against great championship teams. Vick looked bad against the average Redskins. People have to remember that deep in playoffs, A geat D will stop Vick like we did years ago. If his passing completion is 61% against bad teams we are in trouble. it will be more like 57% against a great D. Someone said 61% and 67 is not much different. it is. a few more passes can mean 7 points in game of inches.

bsmvideos
October 26, 2010 7:30 am

Only 3 teams in the NFC have given up more points than the Eagles defense. That means you stink on D. That means against good(playoff) coaches you are going to lose close games.

Comming out of the bye, if McD does not coach up Nate Allen or start coleman(he can hit), (I’ve given up on Ernie Sims), bench Hobbs(and take his paycheck from last weeks game, they always ask for more money when they out perform their contract, so take money when they under perform). Start Dimitri Patterson at corner. Let Dixon start at DT and rotate Laws, Patterson, and Bunkley eventually starting whoever plays the best at the other tackle spot(new and improved Laws). Look how well Juqual Parker has played once he lost his starting spot, same for foko. Now bench Bunkley and “no push” Patterson.

QB rating is passing completion, interceptions, td, and yardage.
QB Rating leaders and of interest are 1)Big Ben 122, 2)Vick 109, 3)Manning103, 7) Brady 96, 12)Brees 89, 19)Kolb 85, 25)Mcnabb 76. But i would rather look at passing % leaders 1) Brees 70, 2) Manning, 3) Brady, 8)Ben, 11) Kolb 63, 19)Vick 61, 26) Mcnabb 57

As u can see passing % leaders show u a clearer list of best QB’s. Yardage in qb rating are overblown because against bad teams u can really stack up the yards, and coming way back from behind when D’ s are relaxed. Bottom line Brady and Brees are in the top 5 in the u know what list but not in passing % one. then u look at TD and INT and weed out the QB’s .For example Romo has a high % but throws too many interceptions.

Here’s really what matters.. Paulman’s Rankings for the NFC after Week # 7

#1) Giants (5-2) This is not your old Giants team, their WR’s corp is the best in the NFL right now,
and more importantly, they are 4-0 versus other NFC Teams so far in Conference play
#2) Falcons (5-2) Good bounce back versus the desperate Bengals, are now 3-1 in NFC Conference games
#3) Seahawks (4-2) Undefeated at home and in drivers seat for the West Division, 3-1 in Conference
#4) Tampa Bay (4-2) Winning ugly, but winning and with a very young team..
#5) Redskins (4-3) Winning the close games and are 4-1 in NFC play and McNabb still hasn’t played that well yet..
#6) GB Packers (4-3) Battling thru lots of injuries which will catch up to them, 3-2 in Conference play
#7) Eagles (4-3) Blew a 10 pt lead versus a good team on the road, are 3-2 in Conference play
with the hard part of their schedule still ahead of them
#8) Bears (4-3) The Martz/Cutler offense is not working, they are not running the ball and have lost their Identity as a smash-mouth team. I expect them to implode as season goes further
#9) Saints (4-3) Something not right w/Brees,who looks very pedestrian this season, are 4-2 in NFC Conference play and must snap out the “Super Bowl Hangover” that bites lots of 1 hit wonder teams
#10) Cardinals (3-3) Great receivers with no one to throw the ball, complete mistake by Coach not to bring in someone who can run this offense, when it was decided that Lineart was not the guy..
#11) Rams (3-4) Have been playing hard and in everygame except blowout by the Lions, have made a lot of imrovement and will be a tough team all season due to their good HC in Spags.
#12) Vikings (2-5) Farve is done, this team will go to QB T Jackson and ride the coat tails of RB Adrian Petereson and be a tough out as the season progresses
#13) Lions (1-5) Get Stafford back and have been playing hard for Coach Scwartz, will battle all season, but need to fix that Secondary and LB corp for any future success
#14) Panthers (1-5) When they get decent to good QB play, not a bad team and will be in most games, QB Moore brought back to the Starter and brought some life and passing to the Offense
#15) Cowboys (1-5) Complete meltdown is happening in front of the world, What happened to this
vaunted Cowboy Defense.. Same players, same schemes.. No Romo for a while and maybe the rest of the season which forces the Cowboys to relay on the Run behind a very poor O/Line right now
Cowboys will likely have a Top #5 Draft pick in 2011 Draft.. See a QB or OT being taken..
#16) SF 49ers (0-6) Perhaps the best 0-6 team in the history of the NFL, but you know what, you don’t get any W’s for having talent. The Future is in question for QB A Smith and Coach Singletary
who appears to have “lost” his team

As you can see, this NFC is really wide open and up and down and is there for anyone for the taking.
It appears the Giants,Falcons,Seahawks and Redskins are all postioned for a Playoff berth due to their NFC Conference record so far.The NFC North is wide open and the Eagles will need to finish
with at least a 6-3 Record and have to beat the NFC teams on their schedule or will find themselves
behind both the Gaints/Redskins in their own Division… It is what it is, the year of mediocrity..

You sure went through a needle in a hay stack to exalt that stiff Kolb but why dot you need to look up “Yards per Pass” and see where Kolb compares to those percentage leaders….for if a QB throw “5” yard passes they should be number one…..it’s easy to complete short to intermediate passes….The game plan Reid uses to protect “Baby Arm” from floating ducks in the air only to be intercepted.

I am a correctional officer and take alot of crap and i never called anyone a name on here and never will, my wish would be for vick and kolb to both be great and we trade one. i am just stating facts that support my opinion that’s all. if kolb had a game like he had a week ago that would be awesome. i think the best chance a team has to go to the SB is with a pocket passer who completes has many passes as he can and not just short passes either. A top 3 Defense and running back to average close to 5 yards a carry. i am a history buff and like to analyze. i do not think it is a coincidense that majority of QB like Montana, Young , Aikman, Simms, and more recently brees , manning, brady, big ben have had very high passing % in their Super bowl wins, my opinion is also why Phillies did not improve on their hitters. WS against Yankees last year the O stunk. they blamed Martinez for the1 loss he gave up 4 runs but we only scored 1. so what did we do. get more starting pitching. i will root for Vick but not be surprised if he doesn’t complete passes and we don’t go to championship.

I respect your occupation for it’s a tough one to do and is not for everyone..
As far as football I think every team would love that Pocket passer who Passes for a High % and a Top 3 Defense and a Running attack that averages 5 yards per carry…
When you find this combination with any team, let me know, for I will Fed-Ex them the Super Bowl Trophy and cancel the rest of the Season because I don’t think such a team has all of the measurements..
You being a History buff (as I am), can you research and let us know the last team that had all of theses measurements/rankings
#1) A QB in the top 5 for completion %
#2) A Top 3 Overall Defense
#3) A Running attack that averages 5 yeards per carry

“When Michael Vick is throwing the ball like he was before he got hurt, he can give you what Kevin Kolb can. But NO ONE IN THE WORLD can give you what Michael can. You can’t teach it to Kolb, you can’t buy it for Kolb, you can’t go to a professor and tell him to put it in books so Kolb can get it.” -Michael Irvin

He couldn’t have said it any better. But there’s always gonna be some dickface putting Mike down even if he throws for 500 yards a game and wins a Super Bowl. I just dont get people man. They let the fact because he’s black, or because of his past, or because he is a scrambler be the reasons to not like him. I recently read a report where this old ass couple in Philly has season tickets. But they won’t attend a game in which Michael Vick starts. if u go with kolb u need a tremendous scheme every week
u need perfect balance and to be frank a whole lot of misdirection so dudes are runnin around wide open
we have seen few perfect passes this yr and i stated 1 by kolb the other day on the comeback route for a td to maclin vs niners thought that was perfect
but how many perfect passes have we seen by vick
just vs detroit alone about 5
the 1 up the seam to celek vs detroit which kolb continues to miss, celek was not open it was perfect pass
the deep ball to djax vs detroit perfect pass
the corner route to djax for jax on the 1st series where djax caught it and took it to the house that was a tremendous throw vick also hit maclin with the same comeback td kolb threw there r plenty more hope u get my drift
i mean if u cant see this stuff what r u watching
kolb hits celek vs niners not a defender within 15 yards of him i coulda threw that
that was scheme not qb

Paul, most of the QBs who pass for a very high percentage don’t pass the ball as much. There are only a few exceptions of QBs who throw the ball 35-40 times a game and still have a high percentage. For the majority of QBs that are good, if they throw the ball that much every game, they’ll be in the high 50s/low 60s. QBs who have overwhelming success at throwing the ball a lot and still completing most of them are usually in offenses where the running game is a big threat and they aren’t throwing the ball 15+ yards a lot. Dude has been harping on the same useless stats for weeks now.
