DeSean Jackson: “Felt Like I Was In A Car Accident”

DeSean Jackson was on Daily News Live yesterday and said, “felt like I was in a car accident” when describing the collision he had with cornerback Dunta Robinson of Atlanta.  Jackson said he had no idea why he was in the training room following the hit.

The little guy talked about being out for about a minute.

He also went on to say that he’s willing go across the middle again, whenever he’s asked to do so.

That’s great that he has a willing attitude, but the Eagles shouldn’t be asking him to keep going across the middle. Jackson can’t keep getting concussions and continue to play football.  At some point the doctors are going to say they’re going to shut him down.

The Eagles aren’t the same team without him.  They should ask him to do most of his work, deep and outside, while restricting his work inside.

At times I wonder what type of contract they’re going to offer Jackson, next year, if he gets hurt again.  Sure as day, they’re going to bring up his inability to stay healthy. They will talk about the concussions.

We’ll see what happens because he could greatly affect Jackson’s contract and his career.

I hope things work out for him because I give him a lot of credit for being willing to take those types of hits.

He’s changed his game already, in that he’s much more willing to get on the ground when he finds himself in traffic.

Jackson passed trainer Rick Burkholder’s test so he’ll now be evaluated by a neurologist as he returns to action.

Great to hear that he is doing much better will return to th field soon..
I think Eagles will stay with Colvin on the Punt Returns and let D-Jax concentrate on being a WR.
Also, with WR Cooper back healthy, I think you will see many or those crossing routes by Cooper/Avant/Hall and not be D-Jax. I also think that D-Jax will get a few more plays off once in a while, so he doesn’t have to take uneccesary shots/hits when the Eagles run the ball.
Long term, I am not sure about his durability and don’t view him as a true #1 WR.. He is the Eagles t most explosive playmaker, but I am not so sure about his longevity in the NFL ,maybe another 3-4 years at most, so It will be interesting on how the Eagles approach him as they discuss a contract extension for how long, how much $$$, etc,etc once the Season is over…
It’s great to have him on the field for teams have to account for that Speed which opens things up for the other WR;s

OK, Gary, not a knock against you at all because you’re not the only media outlet that has stated this. But I for one would like an example of the Eagles using an injury against a player of DJax’s skill in contract negotiations? Shaun Andrews got paid..back injury..his brother got paid..knee problems..however I can’t think of one instance that a player got a new contract and was saying..well if you didn’t get injured it’d be a bigger deal. Now that may just be the general concensus that DJax might not get the big deal he’s due but it’s a reach to think he’ll not get it in reality. He’s become, in 2 years, the cornerstone of this Offense..more then Owens was..as much now as, dare I say, Westbrook after several years..I see no presadence that he’ll get a cheap deal with an injruy discount..he’ll be gone if that’s the case and the Eagles can’t let that happen.

And just to be clear, I’m not talking about scrub 2nd stringers either. I’m refering to the players this team revolves around, the Eagle Elite if you will. DJax will get paid, there’s really no other alternative. And I don’t want to hear about Maclin can replace him as the No. 1 either because the 2 WR’s really compliment eachother nicely that you can’t break up a duo that good so soon. How long were Fitz and Boldin together?

Eagles have no True #1 WR
D-Jax and Maclin are both #2 WR’s and complement each other well and both need to be on the field since opposing Defenses can’t simply try to take one completely away and then the other explodes..
but it’ a different story when one of them is injured or out.. then teams can double on one and shut them down for the other Eagle WR’s (Avant/Cooper/Hall) do not strike fear in any secondary.
D-Jax/MAclin are both better when both are playing and need each other to stay healthy to bbe able to make big plays.. D-Jax will not get paid like a # 1 Wr though due to his size and durability issues

If they decide to stick with Kolb for the future, trade DeSean Jackson for a late 1st round, early 2nd and sign Vincent Jackson this off season. I got love for DeSean, but he’s not an ideal receiver for this offensive system. I say trade him before another concussion while his trade value is high. Vincent Jackson on the other had, 6’5 230, would be a perfect fit for this offense. Vincent is a big receiver with big play ability (he has averaged the same yards per catch in his career as DeSean, 17.2).

It’s amazing to me that there are still plays that have DJax running crossing patterns 2-5 yards past the line of scrimmage. I’m not talking about quick screens or quick in routes against man coverage. I mean shallow patterns that he has to go across the whole field. This was a problem I mentioned last year. Every other pattern doesn’t put him infront of linebackers with clear shots; it was a corner that blew him up and not London Fletcher again. I think the play calling has been fine, just using DJax as bait underneath scares the crap out of me. The guy is amazing in space. Let Avant, Cooper, McCoy or Schmidtt play with the heavy weights. DJax running through coverage takes along defenders and opens up the short game for the other guys which makes him most valuable and safe.

It looked more like a train wreck. I think I would have quit after that.

I agree with you. Since I saw Jackson run his first reverse, I felt that Reid would get him killed. Jackson is Todd Pinkston on steroids. His size should be considered in any play design.

@drummer : LMAO – yea I would of had 2nd thoughts too!

I dont think its bad for them to run a reverse or a quick out to DJAX…he’s a play maker, but sending him across the field is a little much…especially if the ball is slow getting to him or leading him a little too much and he can’t react to the defense that’s what makes it dangerous…If they spread the field and go with a 3-4 receiver set, sending everyone but DJax, then the short slant may be open, with DJAX only having to worry about his man..I’ve seen DJAX catch a couple of quick slants this year the throws were on target didnt leave him exposed…Unfortunately that play didnt work like the others

With Vick coming back Jackson fortunately won’t have to go over the middle except as a decoy probably.
