Vick Is Eager To Start And Should Greatly Benefit From The Extra Week Off

I saw Michael Vick last week at the beginning of the Eagles Wednesday practice and he was very tentative about throwing the football.  You could see that he was experiencing pain each time he threw the football. Vick talked about that on his weekly Monday afternoon radio appearance on a Virginia Beach, Virginia radio station.

“Throwing the ball has been the toughest thing,” Vick said. “I think I made great strides last week, just getting my range of motion back and working on my accuracy. Things have finally come back full circle. I feel good again and am ready to play some football.”

It’s good thing Vick has another week because he’s going to need it.  When you get in an NFL game, your adrenaline is up at a high level and that causes you to push your muscles much harder than you would do in practice.  If there’s an area that’s not ready, it could put him back on the shelf.
That rib and cartilage injury is going to have to be very close to 100% or he will re-injure it a bit when he throws the football.   That extra week off because of the bye is going to help Vick a great deal.  I’m interested in seeing how he looks when he throws next Wednesday.
He’s very slippery when playing quarterback and he was also very adept during the interview of making sure not to offend the Kevin Kolb supporters.  During his time on the bench, Vick maintained his friendship with Kolb and supported him in much the same way Kolb did him when he was sidelined.
Vick is eager to take back over as the team’s starting quarterback.  He was so eager on Sunday that he got a penalty for getting in the way of an official near the sideline.

“It’s a totally different feeling when you’re the starter,” Vick told the radio audience. “You know you have to be prepared. You want to go into the game almost knowing that nothing will surprise you. That’s the way I like to gear myself up and play a football game … Everything is not going to be perfect. There are going to be highs and lows. At the end of the day, you have to be resilient and overcome adversity.”

Do you hear the confidence in what Vick is saying?  A number of Vick’s teammates have talked about the ultimate confidence he has.  Guard Todd Herremans said Vick came into the huddle with them trailing big in the Green Bay game and said, “Who wants to help me win this game?”.    The guard said it excited him and excited the other guys in the huddle when Vick started backing up what he had said.

Vick had better be ready to overcome some serious adversity in order to score enough to make up for the way the Eagles defense has been playing at the end of games.  They’ve been torched at the end of the Lions game, the 49ers contest and of course against the Titans.

I am very excited to see him play, but not being in “live action: for ove r5 weeks, I don’t expect him
to come out like gang busters, he will have to go back to basics and let the game come to him,
read the Colts coverages,go thru his progressions and then let it rip.. It will take a few series at least or even a half for him to get his timing back, so hopefully Coach AR/MM have a good solid game plan where he starts with some safe throws, screens, check downs and have McCoy/Harrison run the ball and then open it up as he gets his timing down.If he comes out of the gate trying to do too much and heaving the ball all over the yard, and scrambling at the 1st sign of pressure, then he may revert to his old ways which is trying to force things and playing a little out of control. If the OT’s can contain
the edges on DE Freeney/Mathis, then Vick should settle in pretty good and have a solid game and get the ball into the hands of their playmakers. The COlts play a soft zone and typically allow the WR to catch the ball in front of them and then make sound tackles, they usually have deep help from their Saftey (L Bethea) and are tough to pass the ball deep on, but will allow the 7-15 yard routes pretty uncontested… Celek/Avant should have lots of opportunities to work the middle of the field

Nah Paul if I want that kind of QB then I start Kolb. If Vick is cleared to play than let him play. My first play of the game is a naked bootleg and have Vick run. That serves notice that Vick is back and there is no question you better play your defense accordingly. Without that threat Vick is just an avg to a slightly above avg qb and you wont beat the better teams. If Vick is cleared to play he has to play his game. Vick is a competitor and his instincts will take over anyway. Once protection breaks down hes not gonna stay there and get pounded he will be out. Game on!

I like that bootleg call for the 1st Play on the game.. Sends a strong statement
I know Vick’s moving around isa big part of the game, I just don’t want him to abandon the reads and progressions & the game plan and just simply run at the 1st sign of pressure for then he will get tattooed
I am interested in seeing how he reacts after getting hit a couple of times and it won’t take too many
to reinjure that rib area which is exposed when passing or running, so he needs to play smart.

Love the bootleg idea… I think that AR has to limit the chances of him taking a hit and try to get this guy to start sliding some. No more short yardage where he gets pounded. I don’t want him to stop running, because that is what reeks havoc, but he has to take care of himself.

Or Better yet,
Maybe have Kolb in there and lined up as a WR, and reverse the ball to him and then Kolb turns around and throws to VIck running down the left-side line wide open for a TD…

Man I can’t wait til #7 steps on the field again

Me either GOTTALUVIT….Me either. Mike Vick’s leadership speaks in volumes. His teammates love him! You know whats crazy? Michael Vick is actually right handed, but in High School he shocked his family and coaches by throwing the ball with his left hand. Thats amazing. If Jacksonville’s defense can win against Peyton Manning, then I know that we can…Especially the way we whooped the Jaguars’ ass! Michael Vick has the deepest ball in the league right next to Donovan McNabb. Its just so exciting to see him launch it to Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. He’s not afraid to take chances, whereas Kevin “Baby Arm” Kolb is. It shows the amount of confidence he has in himself and in his teammates. I have no doubt that Mike Vick will pick up where he left off and put himself right back in the discussion for MVP. Let’s Go Eagles! Mike Vick throws the ball so deep that we can literally WATCH OUR EAGLES FLY. E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!!!!

well all i know is the colts are both the best overall d we have faced and the best pass d we have faced by far
their pass rush is superior to anything we have played against so far
so i’d like to see andy put the cape on again and come up with a solid gameplan for this game like he did vs san fran
i dont want him to get lazy and just start dialing up shotgun plays every down cause we will get smoked

I think one of our biggest advantages in 2 weeks will be that Manning will be without D Clark and who knows if his new BFF Collie will suit up. As a fan I’ll be watching Mannings chemistry with his new core set of receivers and what type of positions he sets them up in. Manning, IMO, is himself the best on-the-fly game managing QB’s at the LoS in the NFL..maybe ever. He’ll be able to get it done. Manning versus McDermott (sic) Better believe if there is a hole, Manning will turn it into a crater..at least he doesn’t have Kenny Britt to throw to.

I am not sure what Colts Defense you have been watching this 2010 Season PW,
They have taken a step back as a team and Freeney & Mathis have not been dominating as the past 2-3 seasons.MLB G Barnett hurtt, Starting Safety B Sanders out for the Season and his back-up M Bullit is also out for the Season as is their starting DT A Johnson. This is a below average Colt Defense that the Ealges should light up and point some points on the board..Here are some Colts Stats for 2010

Overall Ranking — 14th in Total Defense
Yards per Game Allowed – 340 yards per game (220 thru the Pass & 120 on the Ground)
Averagae points Allowed – 21 Pts per Game
Total Sacks for the Season – Only 11
Interceptions – Only 5
Opposing Teams 3rd Down % – 38 % (which is below average)
Opposing Team QB Passing Completion % 62 % (which is below average)

As far as Offensively,
WR A COllie had surgery and is out at least 3-4 weeks, WR Gonzales has a set back and is listed day to day to play this week vs the Texans, WR P Garcon is still playing with sprained anlke and hamstring and is at 75% full speed per him..RB’s Addai still huring with his Shoulder and back D Brown is playing his first game in a moth after hamstring issues. Rookie B Eldridge is the Starting TE (5th Round Draft choice with 3 career receptions) and his back-up is a fella named 3 year Vet G Robinson who has 9 catches this season to replace the injured All-Pro TE D Clark
This is not the Colt team we have been used to seeing and doesn’t compare in any way, shape or form. from the very talented teams of the past. They will play hard, they will play fast and smart. The
Eagles should be favored in this game and I expect them to be able to put 30-35 points on the Board
and with the COlts playing this Monday Night vs the Texans, the Eagles will be facing a team with very little time to prepare for Vick and the Eagles

Vick is not big either in height or weight as far as most NFL QBs go
Like Drew Brees he probably sees the field better rolling out

In addition he likes to run

Makes for future injuries

Andy better let Kolb takes some of the practice reps

To PW,
When the Eagles palyed the 49ers in the 4th Week,it was the toughest Defense that the Eagles were playing against at that point of the season.
About the Colts/Giants game from 7 weeks ago, the Giants O/Line is much better now and the Colts team has lot of injuries and is not playing that well since earlier in the season…
I agree that I would take Freeney/Mathis as pass-rushers on my team (they are not very good versus the run) but they are another year older this season and don’t appear as explosive as years past

Every team in the NFL has their injuries, it is a part of the game…Including our very own team! This is a grown ass man sport…So if a teammate goes down, the backup has to fill in and do his job..REALTALK

Kolb has put up 10points in the 2nd half against 49ers and Falcons – 6 points against the Titans(only field goals)
Vick has put up 2 TD’s in each half of every game he has started! Eagles offense is much more effecient with Vick! This article isn’t about who the future QB will be for the Eagles! but if the proof is in the playing, then I think your statement was totally false! REALTALK!! Despite how many points Vick puts up against the Colts, he still give the Eagles the best chance to win NOW and FUTURE!!

So, Paul are you saying if Vick does not score 28 points Kolb should be the future QB for the Eagles? If Vick can’t put up 28 points what makes you think Kolb would do any better!
This is fact, Vick can do anything Kolb can do plus more…There is nothing Kolb can do that Vick can not….If there is, please enlighten me????

Kafka looked the best out of all of our QB’s in preseason, honestly…of course he played against lesser players, but he was pretty impressive! We’ve seen a game winning drive from Kafka in the pre season, and have never seen a game winning drive from Kolb! We’ve seen plenty game winning drives from Vick! (in his ATL days, when people say he wasn’t a good QB)

Point being: never seen Kolb in a game where we needed a TD, but yet people still praise him as if he is truly the next Aaron Rogers (According to my knowledge Aaron Rogers hasn’t won a SB yet, and there is no guarantee he will either)

He put 300+ yards up but so have many other backup-caliber QB’s….Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kellen Clemons, John Kitna, even J.T. Sullivan LOL, etc. The list goes on. Kevin never did shit for me to like him. He is very unimpressive. Anyone can throw a 30 yard pass to Desean Jackson if he is wide open. Kevin doesn’t make difficult throws, he makes throws that anyone can. He is basic, a basic QB, and thats why he is Michael Vick’s backup! 🙂

Paul

The Eagles defense is ranked 9th. Does that make Kerry Collins a top-10 QB?

If a running back turns a dump-off into a 40 yard gain, does that make the QB a top-10 QB?

The Colts are 4-2 and coming a Superbowl appearance. Year after year, they are near the top in the NFL.

Winning in the NFL is a war of attrition as much as it is about skill. We’ve lost key players, but have still won. The good teams lose players, adjust and keep winning, something the Colts have done for years.

Our QB is recovering from an injury and will not have played in 5 weeks.

Our offensive line is in a constant state of flux.

Regardless of these facts, in your mind, we should “light up” the Colts? Is that right?

It doesn’t seem that you weighed everything before making such a statement.

i do agree tho dizzy most of his throws were wideopen
thus all the articles from g about gameplan and needing a scheme for him
but still in kolbs defense im glad he hit the open man the knock on him coming in was throwing into coverage
we havent seen him hit celek down the seem like vick did with coverage all around celek
we havent seen him hit the corner route like vick threw to djax for 1st 7 vs jax ridiculously perfect pass
the bomb to djax in between 2 defenders in detroit 50 60 yards down the field we havent seen any of this unless u wanna call a lolipop that riley cooper came back to a great throw
so yes i agree with basic i think thats a very good description of him but there are basic elite qb’s
drew brees very basic tom terriffic is basic but kolb is obviously not here yet
