Undefeated Hornets In Pursuit Of Sixers Iguodala?

With the Sixers off to a slower start than even their biggest detractors envisioned, it was only a matter of time until teams tried to start picking talent from this roster.

It appears that has started, as reports have come from Chris Broussard of ESPN that the New Orleans Hornets have inquired about the availability of Andre Iguodala. The report says that the Sixers were not open to moving Iguodala, but if the losses continue to pile up, and the teams keep calling, the Sixers stance on that will soften.

The move makes sense for the Hornets, who have started the season 7-0, and are playing this season in hopes of keeping All-Star Point Guard Chris Paul.  Reports circulated in the off season that Paul wanted out of New Orleans to play for a contender. While it could be argued if the Hornets hot start makes them a contender, there is no question that seeing management add pieces to the roster would only please Paul.

Andre Iguodala could be that piece for the Hornets. While he struggles as the number one option for the Philadelphia team, Iguodala could strive in New Orleans, where he could let Paul run the show. I’m sure Paul would love to see Iggy running the break with him.  Iguodala could give the team the scoring-swingman it lacks.

The Hornets also make sense for the Sixers, as they can offer the expiring contract of Peja Stojakovic. Stojakovic makes 14.2 million a year, and would allow the Sixers to finally get out from the almost 50 million remaining on Iguodala’s deal.  The deal would also let the Evan Turner start, and Thaddeus Young see more playing time, both of which would benefit the Sixers rebuilding process. Plus, with Iguodala gone, Elton Brand could see more touches as well, and his already improving trade value would only grow.

Whether the Sixers decide to pursue this further remains to been seen, but it is clear that the Sixers should be able to move Iguodala if they so choose.

You can NOT trade a player of Iguodala talent and worth for marginal cap space. Those that diminish his ability and talent seriously have no clue about the game. You can not give away young talent and be a feeder for other teams and ever be anything more than an also-ran. You become the Clippers, the TWolves, teams like that.

If you trade him, it must be for a player who fits a specific need from a team who needs Iguodala for a specific need. Trading him to go from $70m to $55m just gets you to the salary cap. You’ wind up stuck missing talent and you can’t sign anyone of note or worth, your draft position does not guarantee you a player that adequately replaces what you give away.

Develop and trade a combo of the spare parts, Young, Meeks, Williams, Speights, Hawes and your expiring Kapono. Wait until Brand’s contract is expiring and use THAT to net yourself a major piece.

Iguodala is trash and SHOULD be traded ASAP. He can’t handle being the number one man. He’s like a welfare check, shows up once a month. Just trash.

It is a pretty big welfare check though “BoB”…

But are you willing to make him the face of the franchise and base your future championship hopes on him?

He got his shot, he proved he can’t be “the man”. Now we’ll try to see if one of these young guys can prove to be “the man” (Turner, Young, Jrue….) — might as well clear up some cap room in the process. Brand has to go. Iggy has to go. What the Eagles did was re-tool……the Sixers are definitely rebuilding.

iggy is ok
but philafan ur boy iggy doesnt understand the game
he plays solid man on ball d his team s stinks
also his offense is limited and every1 can see this except for him
he’ll have his occasional 29 pt game but for the most part its 18 on 7 for 18 from the floor with 12 of his shots ridiculosu fadeaway jumpers or long three point heaves
iggy should be traded and i think he’d make new orleans worse personally
1 thing i dont understand about him he seems to score 75% of the time he is in the post yet he post up maybe 1 time per game
he still yet to understand his role on the offensive end after all these yrs
