Samuel Gets Fined, Calls Out Sanders & Sits Out Practice

It wasn’t a good day for Asante Samuel who was fined $40,000 dollars for his helmet-to-helmet hit on New York wide receiver Derek Hagan.  The NFL called him a repeat offender because of his hit on Kansas City’s rookie running back Dexter McCluster.

He didn’t think the fine was fair and I agree with him.  I believe all these fines are to protect the NFL from lawsuits which are sure to come from players having health problems after they retire.  Scientists are putting together proof of a connection between these hits and future health problems.

The fines and penalties are also for public relations.  Flags have to be thrown when players are being taken off the field on stretchers.  I think they told the refs to throw a flag on any severe hits.  The NFL is covering their butts.

Samuel also couldn’t practice today because of a sprained knee, but he and Reid believe he’ll be able to play on Sunday.

The league-leading pick off artist doesn’t feel he’s getting his due respect from future Hall of Famer and NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders.  Rather than give Samuel credit for being a very good cornerback, Sanders gave him one of those backhanded compliments.

He said Samuel was the best “off cornerback in the league”.  Where did the “up” and “off” cornerback designation come from. This was a way of pointing out that Samuel makes plays and intercepts a lot of passes but he does it from an off position, which really doesn’t matter.

I think Samuel makes a good point.  An interception is an interception and if you don’t believe that ask the Manning brothers.

I think Sanders’ ego wouldn’t let him give Samuel credit.

The Eagles cornerback called out the former Falcon, 49er, Cowboy and Raven.  Now we’ll have to wait and see what response we get from Sanders.

Yoh Jimmy, pull back on the throttle just a little. He’s a jackass and has a post NFL career because of that and only that but, don’t wish him harm. Life will take care of it ’cause what goes around, comes around.

I thought the flag on Samuel was rediculous and the fine is absolutely absurd. The NFL is going so far that the players, liek Samuel said, will simply stop hard tackling and will go for the legs because thats all they can do and still play defense and rightly so. The NFL better expand the rosters now ’cause knees are going to get blown out faster than they can fill the spots. The NFL thought they had a QB problem. Wait till WRs, TE’s and RB’s can’t run any more. They’re going too far.

I am shocked by the fine.

Samuel gets criticized for being soft last year, steps up his game, gets a concussion, then gets fined. Goddell is ruining the game. Too many rule changes. How does a man catch a TD, get up, spike the ball and it NOT be a TD? A defender cannot remove his head from his shoulders, make a tackle then put it back on. It’s just a little difficult to run straight at someone and hit them with your shoulder and at least touch them with your head. What’s a defender to do? Run sideways?

Well the condition that many former NFL players fin themselves in in later life is tragic
Earl Campbell is a complete wreck

And just wait till the current lard butted 300-350 lbers retire–They are going to be having everything from diabetes to heart failure

Something has to be done

Pleases spare me they know what they are getting into

Do did duelists in this country and sword fighters in Europe before the government put a stop to it

Maybe bring back the old helmets with no face masks and institute a weight limit per height

Hell Nascar is safer than the NFL as far as injuries

Doctor on Eskins show said 40% of one college team tested had neck problems showing up on MRIs

He blamed the modern helmet that lets these guys use it as a battering ram –I agree

In one of the games yesterday (i can’t remember) the defender got called for personal foul for lowering his head and leading with this. Even though he hit the offensive player in the chest he still got a penalty. The problem with it was that if he didn’t lower his head, it would have been helmet to helmet contact so he would have gotten flagged for that. So I’m not sure what a defender is supposed to do in that case. Something has to be done with the equipment and not all these bogus fines. Yes the players are at risk, but this is what they signed up for. Just like a police officer knows he could be gunned down one day or a firefighter knows he could die in a fire. This is the profession that these men have chosen and they have to live with the rewards as much as the risks. If a QB lobs a ball out there and the receiver still tries to catch it with 2 defenders closing in, then whatever happens happens. Just like the defender has to be “smart” with the way they hit the receiver should have to be smart in what plays they decide to take a chance on. All they are doing in handicapping defenses.
