DeSean Jackson: “I couldn’t think of anything else to do so I finally ran into the end zone”

I just heard DeSean Jackson on ESPN’s Sportscenter and he said he was thinking of something to do before scoring the winning touchdown on the punt return.  He said he did look up at the scoreboard as the seconds ticked off, but he couldn’t think of anything else to do so he finally ran into the end zone.

Yes, you read that right, he couldn’t think of anything else to do, so he finally ran into the end zone. He had held the ball over his head and run along the goalline before crossing it, but was still looking for something else to do.

Vick and the other players have to talk to DeSean.  There’s nothing wrong with celebrating a touchdown, but taking a chance of not getting into the endzone in order to do some nonsense doesn’t make any sense.

Enough, DeSean, enough. This is over the line.  I’ve tried to defend DeSean’s desire to celebrate but anything that’s going to cost the team isn’t worth doing.

Could you imagine him in the Super Bowl?  I don’t have a problem with some showboating and celebrating because this is entertainment, but you can’t take it too far and hurt the football team.

What do you guys think?  Do you agree with me?

Last night Michael Vick was on the ESPN radio show in Virginia Beach, Virginia and he talked about a sprint-relay team comprised of himself, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy.  He said they would be unbeatable, but Vick felt he would be the starter.

I could see him exploding out of the blocks and getting them a lead.  McCoy would get the baton next because he’s without a doubt the slowest of the four.  Maclin would take over and build a bigger lead or catch the other team’s third runner.  Jackson would be difficult to beat down the stretch as long as he doesn’t celebrate before crossing the tape.  LOL

The New York Post went out of their way to take a shot at Michael Vick in yesterday’s paper.  They’re known for pushing the envelope so to speak but I think they went over the line with this one.

If they wanted to go after him in the first game that’s one thing, but to drag it out and go after him now is stupid.

Desean is a goof and eventually fluke things happen to him like doing a flip before he cross the line and tossing the ball against Dallas. One of these days he’s going to try to moonwalk in the endzone and will trip and the ball is going to bounce out the back of the endzone. It’s all fun and games until it’s not. I could imagine him doing the same thing and he loses the grip on the ball and the giants player comes and knocks it out of bounds or something. I don’t care about the celebrations but get in the endzone and dance all you want.

Sports is suppose to be fun and your suppose to enjoy yourself. So truthfully i dont care let him enjoy himself. It may cost us a game somewhere but i dont care what game it is as long as its not in the playoffs or the superbowl. Do your thing d jax.

I agree with you. Jackson makes it exciting (while taking some risks), but the risk/reward is worth it all. His pysche is a part of his game. When he gets up and wipes himself off, that fires him up (and it’s entertaining). Again, I recognize that he takes unnecessary risks, buy I can handle that.

On the other hand, Reno Mahe’s still available.

Vick has a very bad habit of carrying the ball like a loaf of bread and he’s had the fumbles to prove it. To me, that’s of greater concern than any of Jackson’s antics.

D Jax need to find celebrations after he breaks the goal line. He’s going to cost us a big game with these antics before scoring. We’ll take the 15 yard penalty for the celebration but stop being loose with the ball before scoring the TD!

Vick’s not going anywhere. In his former days he was all about the $$ and the fame… not any more. One sign is that he’s not talking (nor his agent) about a new contract. Minnesota is in a mess and a much older team, and Vick loves these guys around him. DeSean was thinking more about making sure the time was completely off the clock; he was still aware of the immensity of situation and really no need for further celebration… only thing he should have kept the football rather than throwing it into stands… a souvenir for a special NFL record.

Re-watching the game: On the first TD, we blitzed but didn’t get to Manning. Patterson had good position, but was manhandled, as Manningham pushed off on his helmet. That’s how he got the separation.

drummer, look at Patterson on that play, he didn’t even know the ball was in the air. You can see him looking around. He fell for the double move like he always does.

Paulman’s quick overall Analysis of CB Patterson’s play and potential

CB D Patterson is a press-cover guy and good in that 8-12-15 yard routes where he can keep the Receiver in front fof him and still keep an eye on the ball (Very similar to Ellis Hobbs in that respect)
Where he gets into trouble are at double moves, the post moves or where he has to pivot and turn around, he simply does not have that skill/part down yet and then once this occurs, he is too busy trying to run down the Receiver and loses the flight of the ball, when the QB released it,and even where is on the field…These can be corrected with better techniques, turning your hips, coming out out of your breaks better, learning to use the sidelines as a freind and to your advantage,
learning the passing arcs and tendancies from various QB’s and moves by specific WR’s as you gain more experience and watch and study your opponents more often.
What cannot be corrected is his lack of top end speed and his lack of accelaration from a stop to go position which as a Top NFL CB, you really need to have.. I really see D Patterson as a good solid 3rd/Nickel CB but just lacks the overall top-end speed or acceleation to be a big-time long term starter in the NFL..

I dont have a problem with Deseans antics for two reasons. (1) The last 2 weeks he stepped up on the final play like u want playmakers to do. The same arrogance, confidence that makes him celebrate is also the same drive that makes him confident he can score anytime.

(2) Chad Johnson ( i will call him whatever he wants when/if he ever wins 1 playoff game-

This dude has pretty much made a brand name of himsellf by doing all those corny celebrations a few years back. Many of those celebrations were in losing efforts. Also he’s never made a big play in a HUGE game like sundays, or in his 2 (one and done) playoff appearances.

My point is, at least Jax is stepping up, in big games, at crucial times- like the words in Vicks locker he “walks the talk”.

As long as the most overrated receiver in the league is doing the corny shows, and commercials every 5 minutes- “do what you do desean jacskon”

real, I’ll be the first to say that I love the celebrations. From TO to Chad Johnson to Joe Horn I love them. I have no problem and I was a little heated when the league started the penalties for them. All I want is for him to wait until he actually scores and then do whatever you like. Hit a backflip if you want. I don’t care. And people will say it’s ok until something happens.

SOME THOUGHTS, KEY PLAYS AND OBSERVATIONS FROM THE GIANTS’ GAME.

What the Giants did defensively:

• For most of the game, Corey Webster played press coverage on Maclin and Terrell Thomas did the same on Jackson.
• Behind that coverage, the Giants used 3 or 4 defensive backs, who often blitzed. It was a great scheme because the d-backs obviously could get to Vick quicker and they could also cover better.
• The Giants sometimes put two men over King Dunlap, one of whom generally came through untouched. The strategy worked very well.

On the Giants first series, Fokou sacked Manning to take them out of field goal range. That 3 points could have sealed our doom.

Pam Oliver reported that Reid had something big planned and that it had nothing to do with the pass. I’m guessing that it was the play in which Vick lined up under center with trips right (3 receivers lined up in an I formation). He took off on a QB keeper left, with a lead blocker. The play gained only 11 yards, but Vick was hit out of bounds for an additional 15. Just the same, I could see why Reid might have thought that Vick would have scored on that play.

Incidentally, Reid ran Vick 4 or 5 times throughout the game.

Also, Reid called a trick play on the Giants kick-off, where Jarrick Calvin flipped the ball to Riley Cooper. We gained no yardage, but I thought it was a good call.

In the Giants’ first two possessions, they gained a total of 2 yards.

A Tapp deflection led to the Quetin Mikell pick in the 1st quarter.

Colt Anderson played excellent on special teams.

Also in the 1st quarter, Nicks’ catch on 3rd and 11 should have been ruled incomplete because the ball hit the ground.

GCobb was right. Dimitri Patterson had a really bad first half. There’s no denying it.

• On the Giants’ first possession, Patterson was beat deep, but the pass was dropped.
• The Giants’ 1st TD was thrown against a blitz, and while Patterson had good position on Manningham, he was manhandled (Manningham pushed off on his helmet to create separation). To make matters worse, Patterson was called for pass interference.
• On the Giants’ 2nd TD (a 15-yard curl), Patterson missed the tackle and failed to force the play inside
• Patterson dropped a much needed pick with about 2:00 minutes to play in the 2nd quarter.
• Patterson gave way too much cushion from the 5 with 9 seconds to play in the half. It was an easy TD.

Our defense held the Giants to a field goal with 48 seconds to play in the half.

Curt Coleman hit Ernie Sims hard!!

It was mentioned that the Giants led the league with 35 offensive turnovers. Wow! That’s a lot.

Asante Samuel made a key tackle on Hagan to stop him short of a first down at the end of 3rd quarter.

Some think we should have taken a knee with 44 seconds to play in the 1st half, but because we’re an explosive offense and we needed points, I don’t fault Reid for Maclin’s fumble and the Giants’ subsequent TD.

Curt Coleman played great in run support.

Curt Coleman hit Ernie Sims really hard!!

Asante Samuel made a key tackle on Hagan at the end of the 3rd quarter.

During the Comeback:

• Jamar Chaney made the tackle on the Manningham fumble, which Patterson recovered.
• On 3rd and 2 from the 20 (and down 14 points), Chaney jumped off-sides to give the Giants a first down in the red zone.
• Chaney then let go of Kevin Boss for the TD.
• During a key stop in the 4th, Fokou had a tipped pass.
• The offensive philosophy, including formation, changed after we got the ball with 7:30 to play. Reid deployed his normal offense, rather than the tight formation, max-protect alignment he had used the entire game.
• When we got the ball with 5:28 to play, the Giants gained 3 first downs, during which time we used all of our timeouts.
• A false start against the Giants created 2nd and 11 at the 41. We needed that!
• A Curt Colman blitz forced the Giants’ to punt. We really needed that!
• On his 22-yard run up the middle, Vick loss the ball while sliding head first and he wasn’t touched by a defender, ala Eli. It was picked up by a Giant, but you can’t tell if the whistle was blown. I think we got away with one.
• On their final possession, the Giants’ offense took over with only 1:10 remaining, but our D, the Philadelphia Eagles Defense, shut the door!
• Mikell almost picked of Manning with 1:00 remaining. It went right through his hands. We needed that too.
• Several players on the defense sacked Manning on 3rd down with 47 seconds to play, and the clock continued to run.
• With 14 seconds to play, Jackson fielded the first ever NFL WALK-OFF PUNT!!

Lastly, Coughlin was working the refs hard after we pulled within 7. He was more frantic and animated than usual. He could see the inevitable – the most embarrassing loss of his career. No wonder he sat in the dark for 2 hours afterward.

WAY TO GO BIRDS!!!

Did Dawkplex say he doesn’t care if Desean’s antics cost us a game as long as it’s not the playoffs or Super Bowl? Huh? That makes no sense at all and is one of the dumbest posts I’ve ever read on here. So Dawkplex, you wouldn’t have cared if Desean fumbled the ball while fooling around by the goal line on Sunday and we somehow lost that game? Is that what you posted??
