Michael Vick Can’t Guarantee That He’ll Be Back In Philly

The NFL Network had a helmet camera on Michael Vick and they allowed the fans to see what he saw when he came up the huddle and ran a play.

Vick is out at the Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii and he talked to Fran Charles, Marshall Faulk and his former head coach Jim Mora Jr. on the NFL Network.

Vick began the conversation by talking about it snowing in Philadelphia.  He said he was happy to get away from the snow.

Vick said he was enjoying this trip to the Pro Bowl more than the other three times he had been previously gone to it.   The talented quarterback said the older you get the more you enjoy it because you don’t take it for granted.  Number seven admitted that he had taken it for granted in the past.

The QB said he didn’t want to come to the Hawaii for the Pro Bowl during his other trips when he was playing in Atlanta, but this time he appreciates the fact that he was able to go.

Mora Jr. started gushing about how proud he was about the person Vick had become and that he could never be surprised by the greatest of Vick as a football player.

Regarding all the hits he has taken and whether he can continue getting hit and play at the same level.  Vick said he thinks it’s all about keeping your body in shape and conditioned.  The speedy quarterback said he was still hurting from a hit he had taken from Clay Matthews in the team’s last play off game.

Jokingly, Vick looked at the camera and said thanks Clay.

The Pro Bowler talked about all the studying he had done during the pass off season and how it had changed the way he approached the game.

“We did so much studying and we learned so many concepts and it helped me learn the game”, Vick said.  I was a backup earlier in the season and I just wanted to get on the field and display my talent.  The studying during the offseason paid off for me.  It made me better.”

Vick said once the season was over, all he could think about what he could do better.  He said he’s going back Philly and look at all of the film and look closely at where he needs to improve.

As for whether he’s going to be back with the Eagles next season, Vick wouldn’t guarantee that he would return.

“In the league you never know what’s going to happen” Vick said.  “I would like to stay where I am, but you never know.  There’s a lot of moving parts, so I can’t say what’s going to happen in the future.   I’m going to leave it all up to my agent.”

I’m sure Vick is following the advice of his agent, plus the Eagles will likely franchise him so in truth Vick isn’t in control of the situation. He won’t be able to choose where he wants to play in 2011, the Eagles will decide where he plays.

I think the Oakland Raiders will make a real push for Vick..
New HC (Hue Jackson) loves to work with QB’s and Aa Davis and the Raiders Offense love the deep vertical passing game (which is VIck’s Strength) and the Raiders have some young outsdie fast WR’s in
Heyward-Bey and Jacoby Ford…
I think the Eagles will be Stuck with QB Kolb and Kafka for the next few Seasons..

1 final note,,
The Raiders have no 1st Rd selection this year (it was traded to the Patriots in the Richard Seymour Deal) , so they can use the $$$ that they used to spend on former #1 picks (J Russell) and apply it
to Vicks Deal.. they Also have CB Asmohoah Salary coming off the books so the Riaders will
have some $$$ to work with…

paulman, if oakland wants to give us a few first round picks, i am fine with that … BYE mike!!!

that’s not gonna happen though … vick will be franchised and then signed to probably a 4-5 year extension … get used to the cold mike!!! we need you to play better late in the season!!!

Who knows if there will even be a “Franchise Tag” with this CBA undecided Doc..
Vick may just end up being a Free-Agent and can choose whatever team that he and his agent decide..

No sweat, we have the dynamic hog hunting Mormon KOLB if Vick doesn’t come back. As Andy has stated in the past he will thrive in the NFL with his canon arm and quick footspeed.

I think the Eagles go after Free-agent QB Tavaris Jackson or QB Troy Smith…
Coach AR/MM like the challenges of working with young QB’s and to coach them up and develop tham
for the rest of the NFL and then go on to the next guy.. …

LOL @Dr. Bridge you Vick haters are hilarious. Trade Vick if you want. The Eagles sure wont win a ring with Kolb i guarantee you that. He has a weak arm and wouldnt be able to get the ball to one our biggest threats Desean. Im amazed at everyone being so certain Kolb is the answer.

Kevin Kolb = Matt Moore from the panthers. Matt Moore made Carolina bench Jake delhomme after he had a few good games. The following season they got rid of Jake their long time starter to make Moore the permanent starter. Same as we did with trading Mcnabb after Kolb performed WELL AGAINST 2 TEAMS that didnt have much film on him. Guess what happened when Matt Moore became the panthers starter the following season? He failed so bad they started jimmy clausen who was even worse. Be careful what you guys wish for.

Correction Supabad

Delhome’s play made Delhome bench himself… then Matt Moore took over
M Moore stunk up the joint in hise first 4 starts this season on a team last year that probably had the
worst Offensive Coordiantor in the NFL (Jeff Davidson) and probably the worst WR corp in the NFL..
Steve Smith yes is good, #2 thru # 5 were mostly rookies, free-agents and just not NFL caliber players.. So he went on to stink as did QB Clausen who sunk it up also..
Maybe Vick will end up going to the Panthers.. remember he said he liked their uniforms… plus he likes the South and the warmer weather and better looking girls

@Paulman If the eagles traded Vick i would come to the realization they dont want to win a SB and i would follow whatever team Vick went to. Kevin Kolb sucks under pressure he was horrible WITH THE EAGLES 1ST TEAM UNIT OFFENSIVE LINE! When we had Weaver and Jamal Jackson. HE LOOKED LIKE A DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS. He couldnt even score! Vick was responsible for all our pts even as a wiild Cat player.

It was he that got us in range to get 3 pts. LOL To bad Vick didnt have Jamal Jackson and Leonard Weaver blocking for him. Kolb is not a good QB, Atlanta does not have a good defense and only 1 good pass rusher(Abraham) . When will you Kolb slobbers learn?

Kolb sucks! No matter how great you all try to make him seem. He was horrible in Tennesse .Throwing all them picks! Riley had to save one of his interceptions

Kolb in every game except the Atlanta game has only had 1 TD pass and you think hes great? Youve got to be kidding me. Andy had Atlantas # every since Vick was there. We’ve beaten them every single season for the last 5+ yrs

KEVIN KOLB HAS THROWN 7 INTERCEPTIONS IN HIS 6 STARTS. Most were against horrid teams
3 against Dallas
2 against Tennesse

Supabad, do us a favor and jump ship now, the eagles faltered at the end of season, probably more reid’s fault who can’t game plan/adapt against better teams in playoffs, reid almost had Vick killed on first play, and Vick reverted to play in Atlanta, you need a game plan, system, a short to intermediate pass attack over the middle, timing plays, executed with precision that plays better with kolb at qb if he is protected, especially in cold weather

@paulman Man i just looked at the list of free agents for the CB position

Ike Taylor
Carlos Rodgers
Antonio Crombartie
Tramon Williams
Sam Shields

Champ Bailey

If Andy doesnt get Asomuagh and drafts a CB instead of getting one of those other guys he needs to be fired

first off, let me start by saying Vick played lights out this year and definitely gave the eagles the best chance to win at QB

all i said was that if the eagles got a few 1st rounders from Oakland, there is no way you keep him … the raiders are not going to turn it around any time soon (like i said yesterday, get rid of Al Davis somehow and it might be a little better), so 2 top 15 or better picks would definitely be worth it for a 31 year old QB

this WILL NOT happen though IMO

@jakedog Why does kolb need better protection than Vick? That completely made no sense what you just said. You tried to say Vick wasnt precise in his timing an short immediate pass attack and Kolb is better if he had protection? What kind of protection do you think Vick had all season sir? And Vick didnt revert to no atlanta days. Yall need to stop with those stupid statements. I guess Brady sucked at reading blitzes against the Jets huh? Or what about Brees against Seattle defense? Any QB that gets hit enough will run and be off their game. He was running because he had to. Please people start using your brain. Its common sense.

@Dr. Bridge I think alot of people are paying way to much attention to Vicks age. Which really makes no sense. Because he had world class speed coming out of college(4.2) and even when he loses a little speed he still will be fast. He is not your average QB ya know? Whose to say that he wont get even faster? After all Herschel Walker at 47 ran a 4.39 and Darrell Green at 50 ran a 4.2. Vick at 36 will still probably run a 4.4. Age is overrated when it comes to a QB.

Favre at 40 got the Vikes to an NFC Championship game. I do not care how many picks were offered i would not let Vick go. Do you realize no other qb in this league couldve done what he did with a number of flaws on this team?

His Center,RG, and RT were all 3rd stringers and horrible. Our defense is ranked last in the redzone in the last 25 yrs. They set a record. They were worse than the Lions the season they went winless.

Our special teams kept Vick pinned back at his own 20. He hardy ever got good field position. Do you realize Vick had to outscore teams because of this horrid defense. HE WAS THE EAGLES this season. He covered a ton of flaws on this team.

paulman

January 27, 2011 7:12 pm

To Supabad
I think the Eagles will target Ike Taylor,or Richard Marshall or Carlos Rodgers who are all in their primes, healthy and paly a more physical style of CB which you need opposite A Samuel to match up with the bigger WR’s (and especially in the NFC East with Nicks,Austin,Bryant, etc, etc)
Packers will re-sign both T Williams and Shields
Cromartie will want too much $$$$ and Bailey/Barber are like 32 + years old and don’t fit the Eagles plans and Asmoogah is 29 and will also want a ton of $$$ and isn’t worth it

jakedog
jakedog
January 27, 2011 7:15 pm

Vick reverted to Atlanta days because the vertical game, successful earlier in season, taken away, defenses adapted, coupled with no run game, Vick was running for his life

Kola needs more protection because he is pretty much a pocket passer, unlike vick who runs and improvises plays with his legs

I agree he had to run, I blame fat man Reid for not developing a system, it was like he just put it in Vick’s hands and legs, that first play of the game when Vick almost got killed says it all

Now, are you a fan of one player or the eagles, because there may be a time when 7 is not under center, maybe sooner if paulman is correct

January 27, 2011 7:29 pm

supabad, Vick doesn’t need to get faster, he needs to sharpen his reads, he needs a coach who will develop a more varied game plan, more timing routes over the middle, and a running game, the high wire act works in the fall, but when old man winter comes you need something far different in northeast

pheags88
pheags88
January 27, 2011 7:35 pm

First off let me say I like Vick. But lets just say the Eagles gave him a 5-6 year contract (which i don’t think will happen becasue of the current state of the NFL) Vick will really have to improvise his game because at 35 he is not gonna be as fast as he is now especially with him not wanting to slide and take hits. That’s common sense. His legs are just as important to his game as is his arm, even though he didnt run as much as he did in his early career the threat of him running played to his advantage to opposing Ds. Once that threat is gone he is really going to have to imrpovise his QB game because defenders are not gonna use spies and so on when they play him and they will concentrate more on receivers and force him to beat them with his accuracy. Now if Vick stays focus like he has and continues to work hard like he is doing now I think he will become more accurate and will be fine. But im just saying its going to be really tough for him if he looses his legs in a couple of years because players on Defenses are just gonna keep getting younger, faster, stronger and because he is short and gets his passes deflected at the line of scrimage when he uses those 3 step drops for intemediate throws which we saw numerous times already and I dont think he is gonna get any taller in the next 5 years. Hopefully he will take the slide on plays where an extra yard is meaningless and save those legs for the next play and hopefully the Eagles will finally realize they have a top young NFL RB in Shady(who was every much of the Eagles this year as Vick was) and use him more to keep Vick on his feet

Ok, i have read this site for a long time now and Paulman I have read your posts…its crazy cause at times you really sound like you know what your talking about but then you say stuff like this…It does not take anyone with an inside source to realize that Michael Vick is going to be anything but the Eagles starting QB next season and beyond. The guy has got atleast 5 good MVP type seasons in him left and dont give me this “his playing style will cut his career short” because the guy just had 3 years off. The Eagles know this. they did not put there reps on the line for this guy just to let him walk when they can reep the rewards..Even if the is to F-Tag in the new CBA Mike Vick will resign because the Eagles will give him a fair offer and he will accept because the Eagles gave him a chance when nobody else would… To top it all off you said the Raiders! lol…wow…thats football hell and for a guy that just came from a real hell, thats prob the last place he would go. Stick to the facts man cause you are pretty good with that stuff but as for the speculation …ummmm not so much.

If Vick were to become a Free-Agent somehow (very unlikley) then the Raiders could come into play.. lot’s of if’s.. bottom line is that Vick will be an Eagle in 2011, beyond that, I am not sure

It tickles me to read some of these posts. Vick is going nowhere! Do you want to know why? Because Vick = money. It’s all about the money. It’s always about money.

Vick’s overcome his status as the most hated person in sports to become a money-making machine yet again. He sells jerseys and just got his first national endorsement.

Let’s take this a step further. If Vick were traded and the team he was traded to finished with a better record than the Eagles, how would the fans react? We’re not talking about an aging McNabb being traded to the misguided Redskins. Realistically, with Kolb at the helm and Andy calling passes the way he does, next year’s team could finish 4-12. Nearly any team with Vick at QB would finish higher than the Birds.

I’d lay a dollar to a donut that Vick is an Eagle next year. And I find the notion that he won’t be an Eagle totally absurd.

Vick is going nowhere, the Eagles will be stupid not to lock him in….Vick saying he doesnt know if he’ll be back in Philly is purely the business side of the game…

Excuses people come up with about Vick’s age is just bull…Vick is 30 and faster than all NFL QB’s, and has one of the strongest arms…Barring any injury Vick will become the all time QB rusher in NFL history which will be an 8 year career…I believe it took Steve Young and Randall Cunningham 12+ seasons….(look it up if you dont belive me, dont feel like searching for the stats right now) Vick is developing more into a passer, which should extend his playing career…Vick will be faster than these QB’s that are 4 years younger than him 10 years down the road…

Buy low sell high.

Vick…bought for nothing….value at an all-time high. Sell now for huge profit.

Kolb…bought for a high second rd pick…sell for what? A second and a fourth? At best its a wash, but with 4 years and $20 million invested in Kolb its a loss.

From a business model, the trading of Vick is the right move. The picks acquired for that trade (at least 2 first rd picks) keep Eagles’ competitive.

As for the “Vick brings $$ in” agrument. It’s moot. Lurie will make the exact same amount of $$ next year whether Vick is on the team or not. Same the year after. Sure fans (not me) will be upset…just like they were upset when Reggie left, and Duce left…and Dawk left….and still the stadium is filled. The NFL will make the same amount of $$.

if Mike Vick is free to choose where he wants to play nexxt year then he’s taking his talents to South Beach! Where there is no state income tax so he keeps more of his money and we all know he needs as much money as possible to pay his legal fees and creditors, plenty of sunshine, no snow and where the dolphins have the 6th rated defense in the NFL, WR’s Brandon Marshal and Devon Bess a QB spot just waiting for him and no Kevin Kolb breathing down his neck. Oh and where he can watch Lebron, Wade & Bosh who also took their talents to South Beach.

Here’s another story that is just plain annoying.

Vinnie, accept it already. Just like people need to accept that Andy Reid is our head coach. Michael Vick is our quarterback.

I like Kolb. I like what he brings to the table. I wish his arm was a little stronger so we can spread the field out a bit more but it is what it is — he brings some heart and determination to the QB position and I like that. With that said — he’s not OUR quarterback.

No man in their right mind would choose Kolb over Vick. Hell, there’s only two QB’s, possibly 3, that I would choose over Vick.

Michael is a top 5 QB in this league right now. He has the talent to the best in the league if he keeps working at it.

Eagles will franchise Vick this year and use the year to work out a 4-5 year extension. Accept it and move on. It’s the only way you’ll be happy.
