Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick Helped Himself Tremendously At Senior Bowl

Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick helped himself tremendously at the Senior Bowl.  He was the quarterback that shined of the rest for nearly the entire week in Mobile, Alabama.

Fox Sports’ Adam Caplan repeated the same phrase throughout the week.  “Kaepernick is the best QB on the field in Mobile”.  Tony Pauline of Sports Illustrated intimated that Kaepernick helped himself, so much that he’s probably moved up to a second round level.

He’s got tremendous arm strength and throws a very tight spiral.  His footwork was good and the ball jumps out of his hand.  It reaches its target with tremendous velocity.  The young man has great speed and could create offense with his legs and his arm.  His accuracy was the part of his game that surprised most of the scouts in Alabama.

Kaepernick also showed the ability to take the steam off of his ball when it was necessary.  The young showed his ability to make the touch throw, which he made into the back corner of the end zone.

They had seen his speed and his arm strength from afar, but it was another thing to see him shine amongst the top talent in the nation.

Pauline pointed out that the Dolphins and Vikings have shown the most interest in the talented Nevada quarterback.  The Palm Beach Post confirmed the Sports Illustrated reports that the Dolphins feel highly about him.

“He is absolutely going to do everything at the Combine,” Kaepernick’s agent, Scott Smith said. “He wouldn’t do it any other way.”

Kaepernick will be in Indianapolis in a couple of weeks for Combine and will continue to rise in the eyes of scouts as long as he throws the ball the way he did at the Senior Bowl.   If the young man shows the ability grasp the mental part of the NFL game, teams will see him even better.

It’ll be interesting to see how he tests from a strength point of view.  Kaepernick is tall at 6’6″ and Smith says he’s pushed his weight up into the 230 plus pound range.  The agent says the athletic quarterback has run the forty-yard dash in the 4.4 range.  It won’t hurt his stock to run a 4.4 in Indy.

The big question for the young man concerning his body build is can a guy so thin be able to withstand the pounding in the NFL.  I don’t know how he’s going to prove that other than point to the shots he took on the college level.

Right now, things look good for Kaepernick and the sky’s the limit for the young man.
