Roseman: Nobody Works Harder Than Nate Allen

Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman sat down and talked to Dave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com about last year’s second round draft pick Nate Allen. He was glowing in his praise of Allen’s work ethic.

He says they can’t get the rookie safety out of the Nova Care Complex during this off season because of his desire to get better. According to the team’s General Manager Allen is anxious to improve. He wants to get bigger, stronger and much, much better. Added strength and size will make him a better tackler.

Roseman expects Allen to be ready to go for training camp. He thought the youngster played well but he said the safety wasn’t happy with the way he played this past season. In Roseman’s words, “he wants to be a great player”.

As I see it, Allen needs to make major improvement to be surer and more aggressive tackler. He was run over a few times in 2010. You can’t have a poor tackler at the safety position. He needs to be more confident about attacking ball carriers by giving them only one way to go. He played in 13 games and had 48 total tackles for the season.

I want to see him get smarter so he can recognize plays quicker than he did in his rookie year by reading formations and quarterback drops. The youngsters grabbed three interceptions this season, but he’s capable of more.

He’s a smart kid, but the coaches must help him go to the next level, but teaching him the nuances I think he has the potential of being a six, seven, or eight interceptions a year guy. He has to learn to bait quarterback into making mistakes, then pick their pocket.

Ed Reed is the guy, that Allen needs to model himself after. He’s got to be thinking turnover every time the ball is in the air or when he’s approaching a wide receiver or running back who has the football in his hands.

Allen registered two sacks in his rookie season. I like his potential as a blitzer and play maker, but he seemed to doubt himself at times and not be sure about what he was doing. I want him to learn to tackle the ball by punching the football out and causing turnovers. He’s got to get his hands on more football and dare quarterbacks to throw the ball his way.

He doesn’t have to kill ball carriers or receivers, but he’s got to be a better tackler in the open field. I want to see him improve in the way he plays the ball in the air. I remember him being caught flatfooted in Tennessee and watching Kenny Britt go up and catch the ball at its highest point. I want him fighting for the football every time it’s in the air.

He should be the quarterback of the Eagles secondary and demand that this secondary play better in the red zone. This young man has the acumen to do it and he’s got the ball instincts to do it.

Recovering from the knee surgery is the first step then he’s got to put in the work on the field and get better.

I like this youngster because he seems to have the humility to listen and absorb the information which is given to him by the coaches and veteran players.

Roseman said the same thing about QB M Kafka, K Kolb,
TE C Harbor, LB J Chaney and pretty much everyone else on the Roster in that Eagles.Com interview w/Spadaro and is very similar to what Coach Ar said about Former DC McDermott..

i agree. I like what i was seeing from this young man. I would not mind having more depth at the FS and SS spots but Allen is a huge piece of our future. What better way to help this man out then getting 2 CB’s.

ozzman… what do you want them to say? Well….. we hate andy… hate our pics….. hate the fans…..

people get pissed when they dont say a word (like during the DC search) and they get pissed when they do talk.

Dont listen to what they say….. watch what they do.

Our D sucked…. the DC fired along with a bunch of non coach coaches. Now…. they are remaking this D. Do you really think they are gunna go into next year with the same players? NO. they will add talent.

Stevo – thank you. When the FO (Ried) did say something (those points would have helped – as if more points ever hurt) it becomes a major slam and didn’t you know that guys kid may have cancer… say something vanilla and you get called a propogandist…

Glad he works hard, hope he becomes the player the coaches want him to be.

Exactly… They can’t win. I’m not a FO guy but I love it when andy lies. It shows he doesn’t care about the media. I don’t either.

The guy has great potential and it’s good to see he want’s to improve. The coaching leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I hope all positions coaches will maximize the players’ potential.

I just read on Eagles.com Roseman talking about the O-Line, He was talking about the 49 sacks they O-Line gave up and theirs a lot of good linemen in this draft and will probly take one, He also said with Mudd as our new line coach we should see immediate dividends, By him saying that what does that say about our last coach? To me, hes saying Mudd is way better than Castillo ! Everyone wants to make it like Castillo was this great O-Line coach, If thats the case he should be right up there with Mudd, yet when you hear these guys talk about Mudd they make it like Castillo is not in his League plus you can see we did give up 49 sacks, you can blame injury all you want but theirs something called adjusting, the scheme has alot to do with it to, We better hope this was the right move making him D-COORD cause if not its gonna be another wasted season.
