Westbrook Says He Would Like To Return To Philly

Former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook still longs to rejoin his former team. Despite the presence of LeSean McCoy and Jerome Harrison, Westbrook thinks he can still help the Philadelphia football team.

“I talk to coach Reid every week or so,” Westbrook told Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia. “We always talk, and I would love to be back in Philly. So we’ll see how things go. I think I can help out. I think they have a very good group of young guys on this team at every position, but I still think I can help this team win.”

The former Villanova Wildcat played for the 49ers last year and had some big games down the stretch, but I don’t think the Eagles will make the move but I won’t say I’m totally sure they won’t do it. Reid brought middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter back after he had been let go of by the team.

The Niners could place a call to the NFL league office and complain about Reid the coach of another team having regular conversations with one their players. The Sacramento Bee says Westbrook walked around the locker room like the most unhappy person in the world until he got the chance to play late in the season.

It’s very doubtful that the Birds would bring back a running back like Westbrook. who has taken so many hits to his body at 32 years of age. I think he showed everybody last year that he can still play the game, if he’s used sparingly in a backup role.

Westbrook was in town a week ago to attend a fundraiser put together by his former Vlllanova coach Andy Talley. The Wildcats football coach has had an 18-year mission to promote awareness of the need to increase the number of bone marrow donor registrants so that more life-saving bone marrow transplants will take place.

#36 Westy sure was a great player for Philly and a great spokesman for the
Franchise and the Delaware Valley in general.. I don’t see a role here left for Westbrook to play… Your back-up/3rd String RB must play Special Teams and I think now at his age and recent history with injuries nad concussions, I would hope he would retire and move on to the next stage of his career.. I would love for him to work for the EAgles in some capacity as player mentor, coaching internship for RB and maybe even a marketing/fund raising position in the Front Office.. Brian is a smart man with a long bright future ahead of him.. I just hope he stays off the football field for fear of another concussion.

I think it depends on what happens with Jerome. If we keep him, no westbrook. If we don’t, you can pretty much get route 36 ready. I’m all for it if not for anythng else but nostalgia. While we’re at it, go ahead and get B-Dawk on the phone as well. Troy Vincent is still in decent shape….lets get him on the phone too — we’ll leave it at that tho. No McNabb. Thanks.

B-West played well for the 49ers when he got the chance to get the ball in his hands……. he could be a guy who can help on 3rd downs and get you that key play because of his experience…. He knows the system and a guy like old FALSE TEETH Mike Shanahan will love to have a guy like Westbrook on his roster……. He’ll help on screen passes as well and he knows the system here in Philly…… We’ve done well without him but it would be nice to have him back…….. Solid Mentor for McCoy……

@Birdo LOL! NO MCNABB. Thanks……. Man….. So I guess some of the Philly fans have had it with the Mcnabb coming back to philly saga…….. Atleast as a backup which I’m sure he’ll turn down offers…… Some people say Mcnabb will win in the UFL with Dennis Green as his HC…….. Does anyone see a team reaching out for Mcnabb next season…. It looks slim????

One guy I wouldnt mind having back is Hank Fraley……. He’s a guy who was just nasty in the middle and just played in any condition……

jroc – Fraley was small, not to mention the fact that he’s old and nearing retirment. He’d be a terrible matchup v. Dallas’s Oline, Hanesworth (if he plays football again), and especially the reigning champs’s BJ Raji. I’d take McGlynn or Jackson over Fraley (in this day and age) over Fraley anyday.

Not sure what role Westbrook would play for this team. I’d much rather have Harrison at this point as a different style of back compared to Shady…. one that going to go between the tackles. Don’t really need Westbrook’s style with Shady. And he’s not going to play special teams so I don’t really see the point right now.

schiller, I agree about Fraley. People need to stop living in the past. Were all hyped over Trotter, who looked like he was running in quicksand, the Derrick Burgess signing that lasted how long? We didn’t even see him and now Fraley. Come on fellas, stop it with the past. Those guys are done.

@Scorp and Shiller….. kevin Mawae was a solid linemen for the titans…. He was 39 years old listed at 289lbs. and was a pro-bowler before he retired…… Some say he was one of the best at that position…… hank Fraley 6’3 310lbs. and played 11 seasons in the nfl and at the age of 33 years…… “undersized”??? It wouldnt hurt the eagles to atleast looked at him or put him in the roster for atleast 1yr….. yall act like he’s going to play Rb or wr??? He can help the younger guys like Mcglynn etc. But to say he’s done is just a little too far…… I understand where yall come from but people said the same about westbrook and kerry Collins and there still in NFL uniforms!!!

Jroc

I’ll tell you who would love to see Hank Fraley — Richard Seymour. He absolutely owned Fraley in the Superbowl. McNabb had pressure right up the gut on nearly every play, beginning with the very first. Sorry, but I gotta disagree with you here.

jroc, I didn’t say he was undersized. Schiller said that. I just said I didn’t want him. And Kevin Mawae was a HOF level olineman so I’m not going to apply what he did and say well Fraley must can do it too. Sorry I just won’t do that. And saying he is done is not a little too far. Putting him in the same sentence with Kevin Mawae is a little too far.

Exactly Drummer. Fraley was just your typical over achieving undrafted, blue collar lineman. Was a decent player but nothing to want to bring back. Not at all. I’m not paying jroc any mind LOL. This was the same dude hyped all crazy over how much leadership Derrick Burgess was going to bring to the locker room last year. I am now convinced jroc is still living in 2004.

LOL whatever Scorp….. I’m just saying it wouldn’t hurt and besides the guys we have listed in the current positions in the front line are a bunch of 3rd stringers in any other team….. Perhaps wouldn’t even make the roster….. Yea I might of over-reacted sometime back about Burgess but Fraley isn’t that old and Seymour can make a great center look like crap any day…… Seymour is a beast and killed us when we played the raiders 2 years ago…..

@Scorp I know what you posted…. Much respect to you bro…..
