Eagles Take Look At K-State RB, But Is He Their Type Of Back

The Manhattan Mercury which covers Kansas State football, reported that the Eagles observed a workout by the 2010 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, Wildcat running back Daniel Thomas.

It took quite a while for the Birds to get a workout with Thomas, as well all the other teams in the league. He missed the Senior Bowl because of an injury, and suffered a hamstring injury which kept him out of the NFL Combine and the first Pro Day which he scheduled. He finally got the chance to show his skills to the NFL in a workout.

To be honest with you, I don’t see why the Eagles are wasting this young man’s time. He isn’t the type of running back that Andy Reid and the Eagles value. He’s an in-between the tackles ball carrier who has good size and strength but his best asset is his vision. He can find a seam in a very tight area, but he’s not going to run away from anybody.

This young man belongs with a football team that likes to run the ball, especially a team that likes a power running game like the New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns or Pittsburgh Steelers. He would be a wasted commodity with the Birds.

Thomas runs with power. He’s a big back who stands 6′ and weighs 230. He runs the 40 yard dash in 4.62.

His strength isn’t coming out of the backfield and catching the football. I think he can improve that area of his game and be a good all around NFL running back, but again he isn’t what the Eagles want in a running back.

Thomas had an outstanding career at Kansas State. He led the Big 12 in rushing touchdowns this past year with 19. He rushed for 2,850 career yards to rank second all-time at Kansas State and the 30 rushing touchdowns he had in his career ranks fourth in Wildcat history. His 12 career 100-yard performances rank second.

Thomas is a beast running the ball and has excellent hands… he is a 3rd-4th round RB due to his combine…. he plays like a 2nd rounder.

Maybe they think they can turn him into the next Leonard Weaver.
