Michael Vick On Adding Burress: “It Would Be A Great Addition For Our Team”

You can imagine that Michael Vick had a lot of things running through his mind when he found out that the Eagles might make a run at soon-to-be-released former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress. Adding Burress as a target for Vick would give defenses something else to worry about, especially in the red zone.

Vick was on 610-WIP yesterday with Anthony Gargano and Ike Reese, when they asked him how he felt about the Birds adding Plaxico.

“Absolutely it would be a great addition for our team,” Vick said. “I think with the guys we have now I think we can fit him in and make it work. Obviously the ultimate goal at the end of the day is to put that ring on your finger at the end of the year.

“I think certainly Plaxico is going to come out with a chip on his shoulder the same way I did and he’ll go out and help this football team to whatever capacity he can. I think the guys would be willing to embrace him and bring him in. If that happens? Who knows? We talking about ‘what ifs’ now? It would certainly be a good thing.”

Vick knows what it means to have a dominant big receiver, like Burress. His favorite target in Atlanta was current New England tight end Alge Crumpler. Crumpler would screen off defenders in much the same way that Burress does.

I could see Andy Reid utilizing Burress’ size, Vick as a run threat and LeSean McCoy’s running ability in the red zone to get the ball into the end zone.

Adding Burress would be helpful, But Captain Andy and the Eagles braintrust need to fix their defense unless their plan is to win games 45-41. The offense only needs the line upgraded, we need everything upgraded on defense. Typical Eagles, never get the puzzle completed in any one year. This year the defense will be the hole that sinks captain Andy’s ship. Give Reid the Shottenheimer lifetime achievement award.

LOL@Rostadoc……. Give Reid the Shottenheimer lifetime achievement award…….. Good one…….

He would be a great addition to this team……. We have a very mature group of young players who would love to be around a guy like Plex……. The Giants team was a group of rebels who didnt like Coughlin’s way of coaching…….. Osi Umiyoura, Jusin Tuck, Tiki Barber and Plex as well…… AR will give him more freedom on the field to make plays and to get in to football rhythm……… We need a redzone scare……. PERIOD…… ANd Plex will do so and will become successful once again……. Call it the Vick-Plex EXPRESS!!!!!!!!! You heard it here first………

Well Paulman being that burress and desean share the samr agent idt it would be too much of a problem.

Listen the current recievers we have and burress are all in totally different lanes. burress age 34 and the others almost being 10 yrs younger wouldnt have a reason to complain. this could be something great for the birds

Eli manning hasnt been the same since burress left. idt burress wants to play for the giants because i think he feels rejected by them, they really kinda threw him under the bus when that whole gun situation went down. i honestly believe that the best fit for burress would be the eagles, it makes too much sense. and i feel burress knows that the fastest way to the superbowl is thru the nfc east. but we ll cwhat happens

wouldnt it be nuts if we got Nnamdi, Hanesworth, burress, and traded kolb for picks all in one off season? maybe wishful thinking but id call the off season a success if that were to happen

To Jon,
I hear you about D-Jax and PLex having the same agent, but WR’s are graded and ramked with TD Receptions being Important to thier status as a player and therefor the overall value come Contracat Time.. So for example, if D-JAx is removed from the Field every time the Eagles are within the 30 yard line and replaced by Burress, this would limit D-Jax (MAclin’s) TD receptions.. IF Burress plays 20 snaps a game but ends up with 10-12 TD Receptions, than that means that D-Jax and Maclin will have fewer TD’s Receptions we which could impact their value as far as future Contract Negoitiations go…
If DJ has 50 Receptions and only 4 TD Receptions, that is not a All-Pro or as
impressive as a 65 Receptions and 11 TD Receptions season would be..
The more WR’s and targets, the better I believe (like the Packers & Saints have ) but that’s not to say that D-Jax/Maclin and their agents will look at it in the same way..

Jhart, I hear you, and believe me, I’ll admit that I played madden with Haynesworth and Nnamdi on the Eagles last night… (Burress is unavailable in the game due to incarceration).

But I think that Burress will want to go somewhere where he will be featured more, and I think the eagles should focus on their problems, not adding toys to an overstocked dave and buster’s. They need D. They don’t need WRs.

Hey, like I said before, if the Eagles sign Burress and he plays well, great. That would make me excited. But I’d much rather they focus on the D.

I respectfully disagree Schiller
Plex is in no position to demand #1 Playing time or Salary for being out of the game for a couple years.. At 34 and sustaing a shot in the leg, who knows how he can physically hold up and play at a high level playing 50-60 snaps a game..I am sure he wants to play for a winner and close to his family’s home which is in north Jersey.. I expect him to sign with a team in the North East corridor if he gets similar offers.. (NY Jets,Eagles,Ravens,Redskins) would be a likely landing spot if he get his wish..Eagles definitely need to attend to the Defensive side of the Ball, but if they could pick-up Buress on the cheap and get a productive season or 2 out of him for an incentive based contract, then it may be a good move and would proably extend the careers of both D-Jax/Maclin a little bit too..

Paul, I didn’t say demand. I meant that he’s a ball hungry WR at heart (at least we’d hope – otherwise what’s the point of playing that position). And now he can chose to go to any team that wants his services. He may want to go somewhere that needs a WR to be more involved in an O than somewhere with established 1+2 already…

at 34 years of age and couple of inactive years it would be a stretch to think he would land on a team to be a #1 or #2 Receiver at this stage of his career..
Watch the Patriots check him out for he fits their Offense perfectly and they are in need of a big, tall WR to work in the Red-Zone..

paul, you’re failing to see it from HIS perspective. He doesn’t see his age or absence from football as a detriment. He has an ego. I know you have a hard time getting out of your own head, what with all the third person speech etc;;;but for the purposes of his free agency, you have to factor player preference into it.

I ll say this i think if they were to sign burress then jackson would no doubt in my mind be in the slot. i know that avants spot all day but if the have maclin and burress on the outside that leaves jacson in the slot. OMG imagine that… hey we could do what the saints did a few years back have a awesome offense then have a above avg defense. id prefer them have a great defense and good offense though…

But the reply to schill i think burress will come out of prison a humbled man. he wont be the same, look at vick he had it all then got it all taken away, nomore cockiness or arrogance, hes appreciative for everything even the little things, so i feel burress wont demand the ball and throw a fit and whatnot, he just wants to win

the last we saw of burress on an nfl field was him catching the winning SB pass, thats enough for me lol i think they should sign him

Paul, sal pal said he wants to play with vick and play for the eagles, in the afc its a tougher road to the sb, he played in pittsburgh remember? he won in the nfc…

Plex would be a great fit, but I feel like he would do what avant did, so what’s the point in having avant and plex? Also where does riley cooper fit into this? I want to see this guy play to see if he’s a capable wr. Also I rather have ray edwards than a $100 million lazy fat dt, but who knows he may change.

I always wanted the birds to get a big physical reciever. We had T.O for 1 yr and that was pure bliss, i watched everyy game knowing we were gonna win i just didnt know by how much. that defense back then was solid. but having that big physical guy out there changed everything.

Now wed have a 6’5 200 plus pound wr and two other number 1s in maclin and jackson. that would be exactly what we need on O

You better believe since the defense was the biggest problem that thats what will be addressed first… But i will say this, the offense had alot of stalled drives, alot of our weaknesses were masked buyt vicks brilliance so another target a big one at that would only improve this team

Lets get something straight; it’s “Plax” not “Plex.” I think what he could most contribute to this team is a redzone target which the Eagles have historically faltered in. I agree that we need to fix the defense but that is irrelevant here given that Plaxico would be a fairly cheap FA and would not impact our ability to fix the defense. I just worry that it’s another media circus if the Eagles sign him. Where exactly are you guys reading or seeing that he is interested in playing for the Eagles?

btc24, let’s get something straight here, he goes by “Plex” — always has and always will. Even in his highschool days he was referred to as “Plex”, so don’t come on here trying to act like the almighty God of name pronunciation.

With that said — we don’t need him.

I think Vick was cheaper because nobody wanted to touch him with a 10 foot poll due to the dog fighting polarizing thing. Burress is a very different story legallly… it was a city law not a federal curruption/lieing charge. And although gun control is a touchy issue, not so much as dogs are (I think that’s utterly ridiculous and wrong, but….still true). There won’t be nearly 5% the public backlash for whoever signs PlAxico v. what there was for Vick. And he was in jail for less time, has a SB ring, is more of a proven commodity on the field. AND on top of all that, what makes a players ‘price’ (and I’ve been saying this about Kolb for a while but I think somepeople just don’t get it) is NOT what they are really worth, it’s what teams are willing to pay If multiple teams want Burress, there may be a bidding war, which won’t be affected by his jail term or his age, it will only be affected by the most recent highest ‘bid’.

Fair points Schiller but I think his age above all else is what might scare teams away and the fact that he’s been out of football for 2 years. No way the Eagles spend a lot of money on him but if if the price is right, then he would definitely help the team. He certainly killed us for enough years.

Schiller,
Plex is now 33-34 years old with a gun shot wound to his leg, It’s not like he’s going to be in big demand outside of the NY/NorthEast Metro area..
He will probably sign a $1 Million Deal loaded with incentives as far as CatchesTD’s,etc,etc.. but he is not going to be the player he was 3-4 years ago for obvious reasons and is a 15-20 snaps a game red-zone specialitsts..

paulman, I read your previous post about region specific stuff, but you have failed to back that up. You’re telling me that he’d turn down big money to play outside of the northeast region? I say that’s utter bullcrap. He wants to play for a good team that will pay him money. And after the legal debachle, why wouldn’t he want to AVOID NYC! I just see no reason why region would restrict his choices.

Waht I am saying Schiller is that PLaxico will not be as in a big of demand
or get as good of offers as offers from teams outside the N/East Region..
Theeir will be little if any Plaxico Hype in the St Louis,Denver, Seattle markets
Plaxico hype is at a max in the Washington/Philly/NY/Boston media and fans Corridor.
The Reason he won’t move form the North East is that his family lives in North Jersey.. He has about a 2 year Career left to make perdonal and professional amends and make some $$$ to support his family. It’s not like he is going
to pack up the family and move out to Colorado with the Family and start anew..C’mon man.. follow the logic and his background, He wants to play for a winner, that;’s close to his home and family and make a decent buck too..
The leaves the Patriots/Jets/Eagles/Ravens/Redskins as Suitors…

Ok paul, I’ll follow the logic – though it strays from your comments. You say that he won’t get hype out of the NE region – which is an odd statement which clarifies a reason – you provide 0 reason. Last I checked, the man won a superbowl. I think the watch the superbowl outside of the NE region (am I wrong?). I also have heard rumors that the National Football League is…see if you can follow me here, it’s going to get complicated…. NATIONALLY televised. I believe that NFL teams may even travel to diffrent cities around the nation, not sure, but I did hear that. So people and football teams outside of the NE region may, just may have seen what the guy can do on the field. Heck, there’s even a chance that he started his career in Pittsburgh, which is closer to the midwest than the east coast. Hey, I could be wrong, I’m just taking guesses, but I think west coast, south, and midwest teams also might know of this guy and some of those teams desire WRs who can catch and score TDs too….whew…
