It Was A Bad Idea For McNabb To Do YouTube Video

I know the players are getting eager to show what they can do when training camp and the season starts. Still, why did Donovan McNabb do a YouTube video to let everybody know how great of a 2011 season he’s going to have.

There aren’t any GM’s or head coaches of any NFL teams who will be influenced by the video. He could have saved time and effort. Everybody will be watching the games he plays, if and when he is released by the Redskins.

Does anybody think this was a good idea?

McNabb is also having a big birthday weekend in Chicago to raise money for his foundation. He’s having a party on Friday evening called “Vanilla Soul”. Then on Saturday, he’s having an all day outdoor/rooftop party. The birthday events are fine because he’s raising money to donate to charities, but he should have skipped the video.

Well, I like Donovan. Always been a fan. Much of the criticism he has received over his career has been unfair and over the top while some of it hasn’t.

All that said, this YouTube video is cringe worthy and in some respects, sad.

youtube vide dosent effect anyone, I dont think it was a bad idea nore a good idea. I love mcnabb. And over his career he has proven people wrong. So i hope it goes well for him. On top of that you said waste time and effort G……lol the video was 30 seconds how much time and effort did he really put into that. I dont care either way. I just hope for his sake he goes to a team with a running game.

Garry (and I’m not talking football/on the field stuff) – you almost ALWAYS seem to criticize McNabb’s media/public statements/actions/lack ther of…. I don’t know if it’s a beef you have with him from some interaction in the past… or you just like to second guess/play devil’s advocate…

But in this case, first of all, what if McNabb felt like he wanted to do this – maybe not so much for anyone else’s sake, but for his onw – desire to express himself. If that’s the case, and damn well could have been – then it was not a waste of anything because it ‘scratched that itch’.

SECOND – are you missing the obvious? He’s having those events…. soon… so a little ‘hey, rembmer me’ – a little fresh face time….that damn well could be a specific tactic to get people out to the events/money to the charities.

Either way, it seems WAY more of a waste of time for you to write this post than for him to do the youtube….

Really G… the man made a statement on Youtube, PTI picked it up yesterday. What’s the big deal. He had a horrible year last year, the Redskins were horrible, he gets some face time, BIG DEAL. man let it go. Plus D Mac is no longer an Eagle, he’s old news until he plays them or he retires. I for one hope he goes to a good team and has a monster year… so all these people can shut up.

I agree it’s no big deal. And of course opinions AND discussions (reactions to opinions/differening opinions) are all fair game here right?

DD – Of course G should write what he wants, it’s his damn website! But you, me and anyone is suppossed to like everything he writes? And not suppossed to submit differing opinions for discussion? That’s absurd. There’s a comment board on here for a reason.

Donovan who are you trying to convince the public or yourself? How can anyone take him seriously? Its sad to see how far he has fallen off. First it was him posting messages on yard barker, then momma mcnabb going on daily news live defending him to death, now you have him going on a youtube video saying what hes gonna do this year. If i recall he did the same thing last year before playing a single game for the redskins, then he said in the locker room post game after a fluke win against the birds saying and i quote ” Were number 1 in the nfc and were gonna stay there, Everyone makes mistakes in there life and they made one last year” How terribly wrong he was, from that point on the redskins became one of the worst teams in the nfl and mcnabb looked pathetic on the field, looked out of shape, uncomfortable, indecisive, just an epic fail… that should have taught him a lesson to never make statements like that so prematurely. Can anyone take him seriously? I know i dont. Hes a joke in my opinion. I used to be a huge mcnabb fan but he couldnt get it done yr in and out… And for you so called eagle fans still defending mcnabb you sound ridiculous… The man would love nothing more than to see the eagles fail and for his team (w/e team that may be if hes even signed) to succeed… He doesnt want vick winning anything and hes jealous over the love vick is getting here… I d go as far to say that Vick is getting more love in these past few years then mcnabb ever had while here for some 10 years…. Benard Hopkins is dead on about mcnabb, he has no heart and now i think hes trying to either convince the public or convince himself or maybe both that he is a great player and will play great when his last good season was back in 04′ a long time ago and even that year he still didnt get it done … So Mcnabb shut your mouth and play football, your whole career can be defined as injury prone, inconsistent, and coming up small in big games…I say this mcnabb youve never had heart and you still dont… your not going to EVER win a SB and youll never be a great player so stop coming out talking on a mic and camera about what your gonna do and this season will be special and this and that what are you talking about? Noone even takes you seriously…

As a professional football player confidence is important, especially if you are the leader of the football team….nothing wrong with McNabb’s comments one bit…come on, its a 30 second youtube video, that I wouldnt of heard anything about if it wasnt for GCobb.com…Fact of the matter is McNabb is no longer an Eagle, so who cares? I wish McNabb the best and hope he has a productive 2011 season.

Jon Hart I’m surprised you dont like McNabb, I thought you loved athletes with a little diva in them – Fans like you were bailed out with the arrival of MV7…If we had to start the golden boy that so many of you wanted over McNabb, the 2010 season would have been similar to that of the Redskins….Over the course of McNabb’s career the Eagles have been competitive and top of list for teams making the playoffs…Its one thing if you dont like the man, but as an Eagles fan, if you have no loyalty at least have some respect to a player who was a big contributor to successful Philly football for 10+ seasons…No he never won a SB…but 90% of QB’s have never won a SB…Warren Moon, Dan Marino, John Elway all haven’t won a SB and I’ll still put them ahead of the majority of QB’s that have…

@Real….. This is the same guy who likes Lebron James……. The nerve of him talking about Mcnabb…… Look the bottom line is that Mcnabb had a poor season with little support around him…… I’ve heard this for quite some time about how he’s preparing season after season but the mental aspect is one thing that seems to bother him……. THe Redskins organization made his mental state of mind second guess his abilities…… Physical is one thing but mental is another!!!!! The same applies with LEBRON JAMES AKA KIMMY KARDASHIAN!!!! Notice D mac saying getting back to the fundamentals…….. But not mentally!!!!!!

On one hand, McNabb is an awkward guy. Alot of what he does seems forced or contrived to project an idea onto the fanbase.. It doesnt usually come off well when he is doing things like playing air guitar or picking up the phone on the Giants sideline.lol

but on the other hand, the disrespect shown to this guy is equally baffling. to me, McNabb is a weird, but boring guy and a non issue now that he doesnt play here anymore.

alot of folks have what seems to be alot of undue hate for this guy.. It has always been something that makes me scratch my head

Jroc, hes been on a decline since the 04 season, dont make me get the stats. Hes always been inconsistent, injury prone and a choke artist during his career. comparing lebron and mcnabb makes no sense being that lebron still has alot of career left and has only played in 2 nba champ. games. mcnabb has lost all of his nfc champ games with the exception of 1 but then literally choked in the SB, there is a difference… i state facts man i dont have blinders on because im a eagles fan and wanna sound like a loyalist… no he needs to stop posting comments and talking in the mic and camera about what hes gonna do and they made a mistake getting rid of me n this n that, as a eagle fan you shouldnt like that, you shouldnt still be rooting for this guy… where is your loyalty? McNabb is a joke, a choke and an egomaniac. His egomanicism is evidenced by the fact that he can’t handle criticism, shoulder blame or share the spotlight. Let me take you back to 2004 when TO broke his leg. McNabb absolutely started the rot and destruction that took place. That was a team that could have eventually won a title but McNabb ruined everything. YES, TO is a jerk. That’s well documented and Drew Rosenhaus is a complete A-hole and a bad guy. But when TO broke his leg there was ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to act like a big fat baby and get all ruffled because the fans were worried and thought TO was the missing piece. Let me clue you in Donovan. He WAS the missing piece and if the NFC didn’t SUCK that year you still would have found a way to lose. It helped that it windy and 14 degrees or you might have choked to Atl. You should have said, “TO has been a huge part of our success this year and that was a big loss but we have to soldier on without him and do the best we can.” As opposed to “we got to three title games without him and he’s not the only guy on this team.” 1) that clearly showed your jealousy and 2) alienated your team mate and 3) showed no gratitude. And guess what? You personally sucked in those three title games and who cares how many you got to because you didn’t win any. You didn’t win in ’03 because B West wasn’t there and YOU were not good enough. You absolutely needed TO! If he was 100% you may have won the SB no thanks to you and your vomiting and four picks.
Let me tell you about a couple of guys that played in this town that dwarf your meager accomplishments and make you look like a footnote in Philly sports history. 1) Mike Schmidt and 2) Julius Erving. Neither one of them was anything but grateful to have Pete Rose and Moses Malone help them win a title. And they were overshadowed by these guys when it was playing out but they didn’t react that way. They were good teammates and glad for the help. You on the other hand didn’t care as much about winning a SB as much as that it wasn’t all about you anymore.
I thought it was very sad when you got booed on draft day. But in retrospect I’m glad and see that loop and laugh because you deserved it for being a Diva, a fraud and a self absorbed jerk.

Are they not in a elite class of QB’s to ever play the game? The comments you’ve made about McNabb clearly shows you dont like the guy and you think he is not a great QB, so why would you not want him traded? Now onto free agency. Charles Johnson is the man to go after. This kid is 25. He had 11.5 sacks last year, but only had one big year and no Pro Bowls. So he will not be incredibly expensive. Also, he is a LDE. Not a DE that plays the left side but an LDE. Anyone who knows football should explain to the Eagles that LDE and RDE are as different as SAM and WILL. Graham is nobody’s LDE. He is too short and not a run defender. That’s fine. Part of the reason Seagrest should have been fired long ago. The kid’s not a bust. In fact I think that with Washburn’s tutiledge he will be better than Trent Cole ever was in three years. As a RDE, which is what he is.
Now, the Eagles used to have these two guys named Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent. Guess how many SBs they got to? I could say the same for Frank Minifield and Hanford Dixon. The answer is the same. Three conference title losses. Neither team had a pass rush. Think about this whilst you salivate over a Samuel Asomougha corner duo.
Its about the pass rush. Aside from Trent Cole we have none. Graham is not a factor in the least this year. He is disabled so he didn’t train the way he needed. he cannot learn in camp by watching and he had no off-season anything. There will be no reason to believe that he will magically improve. And he is 80% at best when he plays. 80% of average. And no Jim Washburn cannot turn water into wine and make any of the stiffs on our roster into studs that are capable of making other teams nervous. We need another player.
Also, if you look at Graham as our RDE of the future, wouldn’t it make perfect sense to go get our LDE of the future now and have your bookends and FINALLY two dominant pass rushers on this team?? Trent Cole is out after 2012. The Eagles will never even consider for a milisecond resigning Trent Cole at 31 with the numbers his agent comes up with. So this year, you have Cole and Johnson, next year you have Graham step in for a hell of a roatation. Maybe Cole might look like he still has some gas in January. And in 2013 you have Graham and Johnson. I hope the Birds see this is a no-brainer. And I totally agree with Haran that Jason Babin is not the answer. If you see that you will know that the Birds are up to their old tricks by signing Babin for two years and a bag of chips for a bonus instead of CJ for five years and a few million up front.

Wow, and to think the guy hasn’t been the Eagles QB since April 10. He can’t win or lose in this town. Agreeing with Bernard Hopkins, yea like he speaks for all Philly Sports fans. Here’s a guy who holds a grudge cause he felt slighted… I have no respect for Bernard anymore, he’s a self promoter. To think that a guy like McNabb who comes from a good home, gets beat up for that too, wow. Some of you are truly ignorant…and bored. When he was lifting this sorry franchise up from the after Buddy years, i guess he played a small part n that as well. I wouldn’t say weird and awkward, I would say educated and polished. He is a lot smarter than people give him credit… I’m still a fan of his, cause he does it the right way.

We get CJ and Haynesworth. Thats a SB D line. I don’t think there are any corners to be had, so we may have to go with Lindley. But if we have 60+ sacks which that D line would, it will be easier to cover. The LBs still need to be better. Resigning Bradley is stating the obvious I think. But they also need another FA. Jeanty, Fokou, Clayton, Mathews. None of them is a good solid starter. We need to stop having one LB that sucks. Caldwell, Kirkland, Dahani, McCoy, Simoneau, Sims. Always a weak link. Starting one of the above would be another weak link in the corps. Think Manny Lawson or Rocky McIntosh at WILL. Again, not expensive players that need a change from the 3-4 defenses they do no currently fit into. And Lawson has developed some rush skills in SF. He isn’t great at it but better than any LBs AR ever had here. And he’s rangy like Bradley. A lot of height outside will obscure short pass lanes and then you have pure speed with Chaney in the MIKE. Chaney may get some picks from that spot. McIntosh is a hitter that can generate turnovers.
So I say tighten up the front seven. Forget about Nnamdi, he’s not the answer. Get that front seven up to snuff and we are top five against the run. Then you have to pass. Then we unleash hell and the turnovers start happening and QBs start missing the rest of games. Think Buddy ball.
By the way every year we have a guy from nowhere that nobody expects. Last year it was Dixon. My pick for this year (call me crazy)–SS- Marlin Jackson. Solid year and providing some veteran leadership and experience to that secondary.

Jroc….like your grades. Pretty dead on. Mikell is over rated so goodbye. He will like it in Dallas and I’m sure he will play great against us. I would give Allen a B if you’re giving Coleman a B-. He wasn’t equal to Allen. And Trent gets a B+ for me. He can’t keep fading down the stretch like that. And i can’t hear about the doubles anymore. The fact is that I’m 6’2″, 185 and me and an average LT could effectively double Cole. He is over rated. It doesn’t take much to shut him down. A good LT can make you think he missed his flight. He isn’t even as good as Hugh Douglass and I bet Graham will be better given time. I always say he’s a nice player. He’s not great. He’s great for a fifth round pick.

@jbird….. I hear you bro…… I think T. Cole could be a better DE if he didnt have average DT’s beside him…… Look Jared Allen is a beast…. I’ll give him that….. But he had a beast DT with Pat Williams beside him…… I think Cole could be a 15+ sack type guy if he didnt have average DT’s beside him…… People cant ever say anything about T. Cole’s efforts and heart…… He’s a warrior on the field…… The Eagles love undersized guys like the Colts organization does as well…… But I think with a little bulkyness in the front line perhaps Haynesworth would help T. Cole so much…… Andre Carter had his best season ever in his career with Albert in the mix when they were in a 4-3 system…….
